I am glad to see that you are still trying and would appreciate it if you learn anything new. Thomas, b. 1805 m. 1827 Rebecca Swain in Indiana. In 1850, they were in Posey, Rush Co., IN and Thomas' age was given as 45. Moses (AKA Thomas Moses), b. 1797, m. Eliza Graham 1820 in Tennessee. The 1830 TN census shows them living in TN. In 1850, they were in Fall Creek, Madison Co., IN with Moses' age given as 56. The two different 1850 census records giving their wive's names would indicate that Moses and Thomas, son of Abram and Anna Bond, are not the same person. It also shows a difference in ages of 11 years.

Bette Bunker Richards

Donna,

I am a descendant of Thomas Moses Bunker through his daughter Sarah Jane. She is my gr-gr-grandmother. I am particularly interested in finding out who the parents of Thomas Moses were. I originally thought they were Rueben Bunker and Mary Lamb but the the Bunker Family Association says though they believe there's a connection there isn't any proof of it. I noticed in a tree posted on wrightsonline.net, they have the oldest brother of Rueben, Abram, listed as the father of Moses. His wife is listed as Anna Bond and Thomas Moses as their only child. They don't give a source for this information. Any help would be much appreciated and I'd be happy to invite you to look at my tree on ancestry.com if you'd like.

Best regards,

Ann Boughton

Yvonne: I am sorry you cannot read my email messages. George James was the son of Thomas James and Mara Jane Wright and descended from Roger of Tingrith through Francis and Tabitha Davey. We are unable to find the name of his first wife and it seems that all of the children except Arthur William were hers. George married Elizabeth Ann Standbra in Bethnal Green, Middlesex on 9 Nov 1879. For George's children we have George J. b. 1866 who married Henrietta Holcombe Oct 1884 in Hempstead, and Lillian b. 1873 who married Alexander Gearing as the only ones who married. We have descendants only from George and Henrietta Holcombe and I believe that you have them. Please let me know if you learn anything new.
Navy Gunner Benjamin Bunker from Charlestown, MA

I'm trying to find the family line of Navy Gunner Benjamin Bunker b: abt. 1796 in MA. He was married to Elizabeth C. LNU. Benjamin served in the Navy as a Gunner. I only know of one (possible) daughter named Elizabeth C. Bunker. I have them on the 1850 Charlestown, Middlesex Co., MA Census as follows:
2386 2448 Benj Bunker 56 M Gunner USN MA
Elizabeth C. " 46 F MA
Jos W. A. Berry 19 M Clerk MA
Thomas J. " 21 M Bookbinder MA
Elizabeth C. Bunker 10 F MA
Ellen Conders 20 F Ire
I haven't found them on the 1860, but I know he was still in the Navy until 1861 (when he was due to retire). The Navy asked him to remain in the service during the Civil War.
I have the Bunkers in Philadelphia, PA, stationed at Fort Mifflin before August 1863. Benjamin's wife, Elizabeth died in 1863 of gastritis (according to her death certificate). She was buried in the Union Cemetery in Philadelphia (according to her death notice in the Philadelphia Inquirer). Benjamin then retired from service and returned to MA where it is presumed he died and was buried there.
Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? I would be most grateful for any assistance.
Barb Selletti

My dad's name was Alfred Bunker. His grandfather was Richard Bunker and was born in Westoning, England. Richard's youngest son was Alfred Bunker, born 1849 in Dartford, England. The family migrated to New Zealand in 1852 and one of Alfred's sons was my father, Alfred. He too married twice and ended up in Ashfield and then Caringbah, NSW. I would be more than interested in seeing if there is a connection. We have been able to trace our Bunker line back to 1470 to a Roger and Agnes Bunker.
Hope to hear soon, Rees and Kerry Bunker

With the information you have given, I am unable to find him as well. However, in the Green Bay, WI area you might find him by looking for Verbonceour or Verbunker or variations of that name. I do have Paul Bunker also known as Napoleon Bunker, b. in Green Bay, WI 20 Jan. 1873. Parents Thomas Verbonceour, Jr. and Margaret Lanndre. Unfortunately, I do not have any more about him. If you have any more information, I will look some more. I am historian of the Bunker Family Association http://www.bunkerfamilyassn.org and can tell you more about the Verbonceours, many of whom took the name Bunker. Contact me at betterichs@live.com and I will do what I can to help you. Bette Bunker Richards

There have been all sorts of so-called Bunker coats of arms but none are authentic. All were just made up by some commercial outfits that try to sell those things. The only authentic Bunker coat of arms is the one recently issued (within the last few years) to Brian John Bunker. The Bunker Family Assn. has been in existence for over 90 years and we have researched this issue over and over again. Bette Bunker Richards, historian, BFA

A thankyou to whomever it was who put on this wonderful site, the family tree, for my great great grandfather. I have always wanted to get as far back as possible, here is the link

http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~billdevere...

Just one or two things left to clear up. Firstly my grandmother has on her wall a crest, with the Bunker coat of arms. Except it is not the usuall yellow lion on a blue background surrounded by three bezants. As far as I can remember it had a strange textured background and what appeared through my very young eyes to be the number four on it. Now thinking about it later there are no numbers in heraldry and what I may have been looking at was a quarter with a stripe in the top left hand quarter. She said she got the arms from a relative in a america. If anybody has any idea as to the origins of this coat of arms please feel free to post on this site.

Mary Nelson Bunker married Charles Carter in New York City on 18 March 1863. The marriage took place at All Souls' Church. (A marriage notice from 19 March is in the _NY Times_ archive.) Charles was a doctor who served in the Civil War and later practiced medicine in Philadelphia. Still later he and Mary lived in Blowing Rock, Watauga County, North Carolina.

The family appears in the 1870 and 1880 census records for Pennsylvania, and the 1890 veterans' census places Charles in Blowing Rock. In 1870 Fanny Bunker, 53, is living with Charles and Mary. In that year, Fanny is said to be from Nova Scotia, but in 1880 Mary's mother is said to have been from Massachusetts.

Mary appears in the 1900 census for Blowing Rock Township, Watauga County, North Carolina. She is living alone, so presumably it was she who told the census-taker that she and her father were born in Massachusetts but her mother was born in Ireland.

According to the probate records in Watauga County, Charles died in Philadelphia on 9 September 1898, and Mary died in Blowing Rock on 9 January 1908. (Both are still spoken of as residents of Pennsylvania, and the probate records are copies of records from Pennsylvania.)

Blowing Rock's local histories praise both the Carters for their service to the community, including not only Charles's medical practice but also Mary's establishment of a lending library. Mary wrote a book, _North Carolina Sketches: Phases of Life Where the Galax Grows_, which was published in 1900 and is now available through Google Books.

A death notice for Mary's sister "Ellen M., daughter of the late Capt. John Bunker" appears in the _NY Times_ archive (7 March 1864). According to it, Ellen died in Philadelphia on 4 March 1864 and was to be buried in Fairfield, CT.

I am still searching for burial location of Floyd and Agnes.
I have learned in my searches that Agnes' name was actually "Agnes Atkins Wiley Bunker". I found this in the Michigan records of Marriages 1907. This also brought to light that Agnes' mother and father were J. Wiley and Emma Swift Wiley. I was under the assumption that Agnes' maiden name was Atkins when it was actually Wiley. Also learned that Floyd's mother was Ida Hunt Bunker. They were married in Weidman Michigan.I still think they are buried near the Hartland, Newfane, Gasport areas in Western New York. If anyone has any information on them I would appreciate it.

Andrea,
I'm not sure if you are still looking for information as these posts are from a while ago. My grandmother was Geraldine Bunker, Charles Bunker's sister. Daughter to Orson E Bunker and Elvira Purdy. She died in 2006 in Hillsdale Michigan. We still have family there. Did you get any information about William Bunker? Thanks
Anne
James Carrolton Bunker

The elusive James who died in Illinois and is buried at Flora Cemetery among other unidentified Bunker stones. His being the most elaborate. His wife was Elizabeth Pennock and she lived with her son, a physician, Ledyard C. Bunker in Indiana. The family lived in Aurelius, New York where James married Eliza. The family left NY and their journey took them through Ohio to Illinois where some stayed. There is a story about a Maud Bunker who was "captured" during the 1812 war in upstate. She was running messages for the Americans. The British captured her and hung her but she was rescued and bore the marks of the rope the rest of her life. She lived in the Illinois/Indiana areas but we have never been able to track her down.
