I have looked through your generations on this site and all end in late 1700's or 1810's. I do not know Adams parents and though it was thought that he came to america with his parents when he was a child. We believe him to be of British Decsent though there are stories that some of his children are of mixed races. His son My Great-grandfather was Cory L. Bright born in 1884. If there is a connection please e-mail me. Simon is a family name in our later generations.

Hello. Adam Bright was my great great grandfather. His son Harry Alvin Bright married Margaret Martin and they had Earl Martin Bright in 1896. Earl was my grandfather.

Was your grandfather Hob?

Wow. I am astounded. If this information is correct. And I can only assume it is, Then our family will be astounded to find out they are German and not British!lol
Our version of Adams life is that he came here with his parents. Married had his own children then decided to go west and as he did he left his older sons as apprentice farm hands along the way with my GGrandfather Cory being left in Champaign county Ohio. I will try to send my file. Though I'm not sure how. My family tree is on the sierra software. I'm still learning how to work it. Thanks,
Rae

Adam Bright is descended from Stephen BRECHT born 1691/92 in Schriessheim, Germany. Stephen, brother Johannes Michael and widowed mother Anna Catherine Hoffman/Brecht immigrated in 1626 to Berks County, PA. a few years later brother Johannes came over. The BRECHT name soon changed to Bright. Stephens son, by his second marriage, was George Adam BRECHT, Sr. born 2/9/1730-31; his son Johannes, born 1/18/1756 married Susanna Fulwilder; their son Stephen, born 4/10/1794 married in 1815, first Winnie Headly, then Catherine Groah in 1832, who had your Adam in 1834.

This information comes from a group of about 35 Brecht/Bright researchers, who have this line back to Kuntz BRECHT born 1563 in Germany. We have pooled our data and now have a database of over 11,000 Brecht/Bright descendants. If you will email me with your data (a .GED file) I will be pleased to send you our database in .GED format. Email to flogue@epix.net.

Many people looking for the BRIGHT name reach a stone wall, and in many cases it is due to the change in the name from BRECHT! In many cases the name changed in the 2nd generation!

I am a descendent of Stephen Brecht. I recently found his grave at the North Heidelburg Church in Reading, Pa. I would be interested in your database and sharing info. Thanks Penny

Penny:
Good to hear from you. I, too, am a desc. of Stephen Brecht. A few years ago, our "little" group of 145 Brecht-Bright researchers held a Reunion near Reading, PA and 85 of us toured the Moravian Church where Stephen is buried! The library of the Tulpehocken Historical Society, Womelsdorf, PA is named after Stephen Brecht!

If you are interested, our group has mailing lists at Yahoo and Rootsweb, where we exchange data and do shared research, etc. Let me know if you are interested in joining. The Yahoo group is by invitation only, but the Rootsweb site (less active) is open to the public.
