BriggsMORTON - Stephen J. Briggs, 59, of
Morton passed away at 10:41 a.m. Monday, Feb. 18, 2008, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born on Feb. 19, 1948, in Peoria, son of John Thomas Jesse and Esther
Rona Mae
Mammen Briggs. He married Joanne Merchenthaler on Dec. 30, 1971, in
Morton.
Surviving are one son, Anthony Stephen
Briggs of Morton; two brothers, Allen (Shirley)
Briggs of
Washington, Ill., and George (Joyce)
Briggs of
Winston, Ga.; and several nieces and nephews.
Stephen was a United States Vietnam
Navy veteran.
He was a past commander and lifetime member of VFW Post 2078 in East Peoria. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 318 in
Morton, AMVETS Post 64 in Peoria and the
Navy Marine Club, Ship 034, in Peoria
Heights.
He worked as a special investigator for Pekin Insurance, retiring in 2003.
Stephen was a member of Peoria-Tazewell
ABATE.T.E., Harley Owners Group, the American Motorcycle Association and the Motorcycle Rights Foundation. He was also a 10-year contributor and organizer for the Susan G. Komen Ride for the
Cure and a proud member of the Patriot
Guard Riders.
He was of the Methodist faith.
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Saturday, Feb. 23, 2008, at Davison-Fulton
Woodland Chapel in Peoria, where visitation will be two hours prior to services. Burial will be in Hillcrest
Memory Gardens in
Morton, where military honors will be performed.
