I am trying to find a baptism for Matthew Briggs born about 1730-1740. His marriage is recorded in Portsea to Elizabeth Forder in 1764.
1769 is the last date that I have information for him. After this date he disappears, there is no burial for him in Hampshire. I have also been unsuccessful in finding a baptism.
He may have come from one of the other Docks eg Chatham,Sheerness originally I dont know.
In the 1760's he got in trouble for receiving stolen goods and was banned from Portsmouth docks and got a 6 sntence of 6 months hard labour.
Any info gratefully received.
Regards
