I am just starting to go through family documents relating to the Briggs, There is a will from a Thomas Briggs who resided in Conn, and New york.. This includes correspondence between the lawyers and decendants

Hi. What is the earliest year mentioned in your Bible? We are looking for my g.g.g.grandfather. David Dixon Briggs born about 1832 in Rome Oneida County, NY, according to his NZ marriage certificate. David had arrived in New Zealand by 1852, when he first married. He is not enumerated in any USA 1850 census. We know nothing of his family in the USA. Family verbal history has him running away to sea on a whaling ship at an early age, and that his family were carpenters/cabinet makers. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Saw your note. I am descended from William & Maria (Brown) Briggs who lived in Preston, (Wayne Co Pa)and North Jackson, (Susquehanna Co) Pa. William was a cabinet maker and all of his sons and at least one grandson were carpenters. Am not certain where William's dad is from as yet. Leads show possible, Vermont, Canada, Maine area. Using cabinet maker/carpenter as a follow up.
