Looking for information on a Cornelius Bresnahan, brother Patrick Bresnahan with possible brother Michael Bresnahan. First two from Chillicothe, Ross, Ohio. Michael from Xenia, Ohio. Two sisters at least in the area per 1860 census. One married a Bastible. Ggrandfather John Bresnahan is next door to some of the family in 1860...........by 1870 he has moved to Urbana, Ohio. Believe that James also in Champaign co. is a brother. Any information would be appreicated. Do have some more recent surnames............but not many. Thanks, Karen Anne

I hope that some one is still checking these postings also. I believe that my Ggrandfather, who became a citizen under John Bresnahan is some how related. In the 1860 census he is in Chillicothe, Ross Co. Ohio, with wife and several children. By 1870 he and family had moved to Urbana, Champaign County, Ohio and started using the name Breslin. There is a James Breslin in the county and old timers know of a relationship...............I think John and James were brother. Several of James' sons went to KY. John Bresnahan is realtion to Patrick, Cornelius and a couple of women in Chillicothe and possibly to Michael in Xenia , Ohio (1860).
I know that some family was in Columbus at different times as well as the Cinci area. Any and all info appreciated.
Thanks, Karen Anne

Can anyone, in their many various spellings of this name, find a match to this:

I have Mary Brushlahan/Bresenhom/Bruslahan, born 1849 in Ireland, brother John, born 1850/1851 in England.

They first appear in the 1880 census of US. Mary is married to my ggggrandfather, John McInerney. Her brother John is living with them in Bay County, Michigan.

This census lists John McInerney being born in Michigan, however, my uncle swears that he was born in Ireland and that he married Mary there before coming to the US with her and his two brothers or her two brothers.

I am desperately trying to find more information on Mary's family, her parents, siblings, etc.

If this matches anyone in your line, will you kindly contact me? treeourfamily@gmail.com

Thanks
Heather

Naoma, you have info on a Terence Bresnahan? Where and when?

The 1860 Census for Grattan Township, Kent Co., Michigan has a Bresnahan family listed where there is a Martin and Terence who are brothers. The father in the family is listed as Patrick Bresnahan (60), mother Mary [King] (43). Children were listed as: Tarence (22 - occ: Sawyer), John (20), Mary (18), Johanna (16), Hanora (14), Bridget (12), Patrick (9), Martin (7), and Catharine (3). All children were born in Michigan according to the census.

In a bio done on the son, Patrick (found in a local history "The City of Grand Rapids and Kent County, Up to Date"), who became a merchant in Parnell the father, Patrick Sr, was born in Kerry, Ireland, about 1800/1801. He came to the US in 1835 and initially lived in New York City, where he met and married Mary King. That same year the young couple moved to the Michigan Territory and settled at first on 120 acres in Jackson County. In 1849, the family moved to Grattan Township in Kent County. At the time of the writing of the history, 1900, Terence was listed as deceased, along with sisters "Kate, Nellie and an infant unnamed." However, the Grattan Township 1910 Census lists a Terrence E. Bresnahan (38) and his wife Nellie (26) as living next door to a John and Margrit Bird, whose 3 daughters (Mary E., Perdeau A., and Anna R.) are listed with the last name of Bresnahan, indicating that Margrit's first marriage was to a Bresnahan. This Terrence would have been born abt 1872 and is most likely a son or nephew to the original Terence.

Does any of this correspond to info you have on your Terrence and Martin? There is no Margaret mentioned

Cheri

not related - for your info only

Cote, Madelyn Mary (Bresnahan)

COTE-MADELYN MARY, (BRESNAHAN) COTE, also affectionately called "little ma" passed away peacefully September 29, 2007 after a short illness. She was surrounded and protected by the family she protected for many years. "Maddy" as she was known, was a friend to all and the most loving Moth er and Grandmother a family could ask for. Born in Nashua, New Hampshire, Maddy was married to Roger Conrad Cote who died at the early age of 42 in 1957. Widowed, Maddy moved to Arcadia, California in 1963 to be closer to her other family members she loved so dearly who had also made the move here. She quickly became involved in California life and in 1974 she took over the Moore Nursery school with her life long friend and business partner, Rosemarie Kraemer of Monrovia. The Moore School soon became an Arcadia fixture on 2nd Avenue, until they closed in 1987. Maddy went on to work with her daughter, Kathleen, at the Paddock Hair Salon where everyone will always remember her answering the phone in her cheerful manner. Maddy worked at the salon up until 6 months ago when her health began to fail. Try as she might, she knew it was time to slow down and smell the roses reluctantly retiring. Maddy is survived by her daughter Kathleen Cote Carno of Arcadia, her grandchildren, Jason Roger Pfeiffer of Tucson Arizona and Jeremy John Pfeiffer of Newport Beach, California. Maddy also had, 3 step grandchildren, Michael Carno, Sharon and Mark Fratta. Maddy is survived by her brother Joseph Bresnahan and his lovely wife Rolande, and their children Michael, Steven, Kathy Jo and Daniel and all of Joe and Rolande's wonderful Grandchildren, Maddy also had a Niece Paula and a Nephew Scott. It should be noted that Michael Bresnahan was also Maddy's beloved Godchild. Maddy was preceded in death by her sister Norma O'Conner, and brothers Lawrence and John Bresnahan. Services will be held at the Arcadia Chapel of Remembrance, Wednesday October 3, 2007 at 7:00pm Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00pm. All are welcomed to come, and celebrate the life of this extraordinary woman better known as "Little Ma."
Hello, I saw your message on the boards, I realize that your message was posted in 1999. I am hoping you continue to check the boards for replies. I am researching a Hugh Bresnahan who married a Mary? I do not know much more other than they were both born in Ireland and I know they had a daughter named Ellen born in Ireland about 1831. That Ellen married a John J. Bresnahan and he was born in Boston, MA around 1829. They lived in and around Boston, MA. John J.'s parents were Cornelius and Elizabeth Bresnahan birth dates and places unknown. In your research of the Bresnahan surname have you found these people? I have hit a brick wall and need help. You can contact me through the boards or through direct e-mail. vjlehmann@aol.com

Hi Doreen
I was gob-smacked to see your message on this board. Molly, who kept the sweet shop in Deptford was my grandmother - my sister and I were often there on Sunday morning after Mass at the Assumption church. That makes us second cousins!
I think Uncle Ted was right - all the Bresnahans in Deptford were related - he would not have know about the great diaspora in the US and Australia.
Our lot came from North Cork, they must have wandered up the Blackwater river from Kerry at some stage. I am in touch with Margaret in Sydney and Ginny in Alaska both of whom could be related to us, but fitting the pieces together is proving very difficult.
I have been working on this because I want to put it all in a book for my grand-children here in New Zealand.
E-mail me and I will send you the bits and pieces I have collected so far. I am in touch with one of Uncle Dan's daughters, would love to be in touch with another of our clan.
Regards
Carol
Delaneys@xtra.co.nz

I don't think this is the same Ellen Bresnahan. This Ellen Bresnahan did not have a brother by the name of Frank that I'm aware of. This Ellen died in Chicago and was married to Cornelius O'Keefe. They originally lived in Indiana, but the family moved to Chicago. Ellen's father was John Wm. Bresnahan (Julia Stokes). Ellen came here from Ireland. Wish I could be of more help to you.
Yours in genealogy,
Ginny Pierce
