I have a piece of geneaological study done in 1926 by John o'Neil (Chicago?) about the Bresnahans primarily from Ohio but also in the north east (the Brosnahans seemed to have changed the spelling) this is an amazing bit of work. Bottom line...Patrick, William, and Tim Bresnahan ( from Kerry I hear?) are brothers circ. 1850s. From this we stem to the brosnahans, prindville, oconnors, mc clellan ,o'neill, bower, shea, kelly cronin....essentially for 4 or 5 generations. As of yet there is no way to post this so if you have some last names which originate from one of the three bresnahans, e mail me and if we have a hit I will gladly share this as a download. The time frame is 1850 to 1923 the only up to date names i have is are Red-Bill's family, the Bresnahans of Columbus, Ohio. anyway, thats what I have...good luck. -kj

My relative's name is Honora "Nora" Bresnahan born 1877 County kerry, Ireland. She married Cleary from County Cork, Ireland, in Mass. Her mother was Julia O'Connor and Julia's father was either John or Charles O'Connor. I am so excited to find some Bresnahans. Please email me

Bresnahan Brosnahan Brosnan
Brosnaghan.....original

My name is Michael B Bresnahan 8/26/38

My family comes from Co Kerry, Castleisland.

My grandfather's name:Michael Joseph Bresnahan
My grandmother's name:Elizabeth R Prendeville
Michael J 1878 1936 Manchester NH
Elizabeth R 1894 1974 Manchester NH

Michael J's parents, John Bresnahan and Mary Healey
Elizabeth R's parents, Richard Prendeville and Ellen Ready

I know of only one brother to Michael J and his name is Jock, but there may
be other siblings. Michael J was in the second Boer War and was married to
????. They had children but he had to leave Ireland and his family behind
because he was wanted by the British and so was Jock. Michael J married
Elizabeth R in Manchester on January 11, 1909. Marriage was performed by
James Brennan.
They met in Lawrence Mass. He left Lawrence to work in the Amoskeag Mills in
Manchester NH the largest textile mill in the world at that time.

Elizabeth R came to Lawrence in 1905 with her sister and mother. Her sister
married a Lupien and her mother never re married, (I think) Her sister
Josephine was born in 1886 and died in 1951 Manchester. Her mother was born
in 1861 and died in 1936 Manchester.

My grandparent's offspring are
Richard Bresnahan Josephine "Mary" Bresnahan
Michael Bresnahan James Bresnahan
Thomas Bresnahan Eileen Bresnahan
Edmund Bresnahan John Bresnahan
Patrick Bresnahan
Richard had two girls, Barbara and Beverly
James had two girls, Ellen and Marie
Michael had two girls and one boy. Michael, Madelaine and Patricia.

A cousin of my grandfather is Patrick Bresnahan from Galway has a son,
Thomas who is a priest. My grandmother's sister was the mother superior in
the Castleisland convent of the sisters of the Presentation of Mary. I know
of other relatives in Mass and NH by surnames only, as was told to me by my
grandmother. There are others that I know personally but I don't know how we
are related just the fact that we are related.

Thank you Mike for sharing with me on your family Tree.

I don't have much. BTW, I am from New hampshire. (Ashland area), now living in North Carolina.

My Great grandmother: Clara Isabell Bresnahan, born Nov. 10, 1879 in Providence R.I., died April 17, 1923 in Providence R.I.
Her spouse.. George Warrin Bullock

Clara's parents: Michael H. Bresnahan , Spouse: Ellen Matilda Smith

However, my mother went to cemetary and found the inscriptions on Stones.. The spellings of last name are different.
It spelled Clara I. Breshnehan.

I have tried for years to find more informations on them.. lead me to no where!!

Thanks for your help

Sharon

Hi Sharon

Just a note on our surname. The old folks or those from Ireland pronounced Bresnahan like "Breshnahan" . Many times in the Irish language S is pronounced like Sh. EG the name Sean is pronounced Shawn.

Good luck
Mike

Kevin, I read your message. I am the great great grandaughter of a William Bresnahan. he was born in 1847 in Canada and his parents were born in Ireland. William married Annie O'Connor, who was also born in Canada, and her parents were also born in Ireland. William was in Chicago from about 1870 to 1900. He may have been there beofre 1870 however. I sure hope we have the same family. Waiting to hear from you. Deb
