Cindi, your father Nicky and I were first cousins so you and I are considered first cousins once removed. My children and your children would be second cousins. Uncle Tom always drove a new truck and had a big dog I think was names Dixie. As Uncle Tom would drive off in the truck, the dog would chase him down the road and jump in the back as the truck was going. I can still see that in my memory. I also was in contact with Nicky and your mother when we lived in Blytheville in 1962 or 1963. We stopped and talked one day in town. Of course you know Bobby and Danny, Nicky' uncles. hello nola, thank you so much for your emai. i know so very little about Tom...but somehow, i always knew he was a kind heart. i tried to figure how we are related,,some kinda way :)
my daddy, nicky, was Tom's oldest...he has been passed on now almost 20 years. now Helen, she remarried, and is is living back at leachville, in her 80's.
i had heard the story of the log house burning.

Tom Baxley was my uncle. He was married to my mother's sister Helen Knight. She was mother to Nicky,Bobby and Danny. I knew Uncle Tom Baxley when I was a little girl in the 1940's. I remember him as a kind person who took time to talk to us children. I was several years older then Nicky but I remember playing with him. My grandmother lived behind Uncle Tom and Aunt Helen's home which was a huge log home that later burned. I still correspond with my Aunt. My name is Nola (King) langley and I live in Florida.

I am just beginning to do some research, but I did come across some info on the net that stated that Rachel Bennett Baxley died in 1852 in Alabama. A tidbit of info you probably already know.I also copy and pasted this info for you. Looking for info on John Baxley b.1806-1880 and Rhoda C. Moon marriage.Children were Mariman Baxley b.4/1860,Angeline Baxley b.1863,and Nashcen Baxley b.1866.All were born in Arkansas.

I am trying to find out where my great grandfather Fred Baxley comes into play. My dad says we are down from John and Rhoda. Maybe you can help me. Thanks a million

My grandmother (Effie Golden Baxley) and her sibs Kate, Rowland,and Malinda had an older half-brother Collan C Baxley. Collan was the son of John Nelson and Melinda Baxley and had 2 full sisters: Flora J and Mary M Baxley.

When their father Nelson Baxley died 27 Sep 1902, the younger children were sent to the Baptist Children's Home.

I am looking for information on the parents of Samuel Baxley b: 1826 in Virginia, m: Mary Merchant in 1847 d:Aug. 13, 1892 in Iloa, Allen Co., Kansas. He had alot of children (the boys named after US presidents) some went to Tulare Co., CA. From census's it shows his father born in Maryland and his mother in Virginia. If anyone out there has any information I would love to hear from you.

Her grave is at Pilgrim's Rest Primitive Baptist Church cemetery in Geneva County, Alabama. Strangely, she does not appear on the Pilgrim's Rest cemetery surveys that I’ve seen. I didn't get a photo of the accompanying grave which was probably your great grandfather.

Good luck in your family research. If you ever encounter a picture of Aunt Can (as my father called her), please let me know, and I'll do the same.

Hi Jim,
Can (Cansada?) Baxley was my great grandmother. The only thing I know about her (so far) is that she is listed as the midwife on my dad's birth certificate. So, Cansada's daughter Florence had my dad, Willie Lee Jenkins, in September, 1920, and "Can Baxley" is listed as the midwife.

According to family legend, Cansady (“Can”) PELHAM BAXLEY assisted in the delivery of all 14 children that were born to my grandmother, Bobbie NEWTON CREEL, in Geneva County, Alabama from 1909 to 1934. I’d like to know more about this prolific midwife who played such a major role in my family’s history. Does anyone have a photo or stories of Can BAXLEY that they’ll share with me?

Coincidentally, I’m related to Cansady PELHAM BAXLEY on my father’s side. She was my Great Grandmother Mary Elizabeth PELHAM CHUMNEY’s sister.

I don't know, actually. The Baxley line has been a brick wall for me. Could be the handwriting. My grandfather's sister's death certificate lists Emma as Emma Louise Baxley. So, I'm confused and at a block just needed to be knocked down.

I think she's the following Emma... but have no proof other than she fits. The 1870 Census lists this Emma as Emma O Baxley.

Alton Baxley
KEYSTONE HEIGHTS-Alton Baxley, 87, of Keystone Heights, died Monday, Aug. 27, at Haven Hospice Roberts Care Center in Palatka.
Baxley was a native of Middleburg and moved to Keystone from Saugus, Mass. 18 years ago. He retired in 1982 from P&H Crane Company following 35 years of service.
Baxley was of the Christian faith and was a member of AMVETS Post #86 and the Good Sams Club.
Baxley is survived by: his wife of 25 years, Betty Baxley of Keystone Heights; a son Alton "Bud" Baxley of Concord, Calif.; a daughter, Jeanett Wilson of Tatum, Texas; a sister, Novalene DeMay of Keystone Heights; a stepdaughter, Donna Gentile of Woodland, Calif.; four grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Arrie and Claudia Baxley; and two brothers, Avery Baxley and Harold Baxley.
Arrangements are under the care of Masters Funeral Home of Palatka. Private services will be held at a later date at Community Church in Keystone with the Rev. Roland Raham conducting the services.

Note: I am of no relation, but my sympathies go out to those of you who are. This is here as a lasting memorial for Mr. Baxley.

Your Aunt Ruby by marriage is my Aunt Ruby by birth, she is my dad's sister. I probably met you at my Dad's (Edgar)funeral. Charles Born 1884 in Harrison County Indiana was my grandfather. Daddy had a lot of stories about Grandpa, he loved to dance and have fun and was "kind of a dandy and a sharp dresser". Some people in the long ago past said they saw him here and there but nothing concrete. I would love to know what happened to him. Great Granda David and G-Grandma Sarah are buried in Elliot Grove North of Brunswick. I do have a source for Barnabas being James' father. I have a house in Muncie, Indiana and would welcome a trip with you from Missouri to Corydon Indiana to research geneology in Indiana. There is a Baxley Cemetery in Harrison County. gjsgirl2000 -- We're tracing the same family line. I'm trying to find out what happened to David & Sarah BAXLEY's son Charles b. 1884 in Harrison Co IN. He married Caroline MEYER in Chariton Co, had four children, then disappears sometime between 1925-1930. Caroline lists herself as married, not widowed, in the 1930, and both David's & Sarah's obituaries (1933 & '34) say their son Charles' address is unknown. I wonder if anyone in the family ever saw him again, or if anyone knows what became of him. Can you help? Also, do you have a source for Barnabas being James' father? Unfortunately, I don't think this Frances Marion Gibson is related to me. My grandfather, Frances Marion, is buried at St. Pauls, NC in Oak Ridge Cemetery along side my grandmother, his 3rd wife, Nancy Etta Baxley. I wish this was my line but sorry. I do not want to take advantage of your generosity by taking pictures that may not truly belong to me. I truly appreciate your kindness and hope you can find a relative that would love the pictures. In the fall of 2004 Jack and I starting talking by phone. He was fighting cancer, he lost his battle on March 2nd 2007. I'm thankful for the time we had together. I had open heart surgery in 2004 and the time we shared by phone help both of us. I will remember Jack every day of my life.

I don't have a Gaston or Clyde Jane Baxley in my line that I have found so far. But that does not mean they are not related to the Baxleys I am looking for. If I find any connection I will pass it along to you.
I am searching for a William Baxley married to a Nancy Campbell. William was born in 1812 and died 1881 in Robeson Co., NC. I know nothing about his ancestry or any siblings as of yet.

I am researching the Swain/Baxley connection. John Gilbert Swain b.1924 North Carolina married to Clyde Jane Baxley b. 1927 North Carolina.

Clyde Jane Baxley is the dauther Gaston Baxley.

Oh My God! After years of searching, I think I'm finally on track. I have been researching the Swain/Baxley family and although I have tons of info on the Swain's, I have very little on the Baxley's. Just moments ago, I traced Gaston E Baxley to his parents Loranza & Clanicy Baxley. Siblings are Rosa E, Annie C, Hattie M, Coy S, Zac F, Flora L and Malcolm L Baxley. (spellings may be a bit incorrect).

Gaston E Baxley appears to be your grandfather's (Coy) brother. He is also the father of Clyde Jane Baxley (my daughter-in-law's grandmother) ~ making him her great-grand-father. Did I lose you with that?

My daughter-in-law grew up in foster care and therefore knows nothing about her family. Any information whatsoever you can provide about the Baxley Clan would be greatly appreciated. I am particularly interested in Clyde Jane (Baxley) Swain who I think may still be aive in North Carolina. She would be 80 yrs old.

I am not sure if Eliza Townsend travelled any further south. I know all of her children were born in NC. I don't understand why some family information is so easy to find and yet so hard for others. I have been able to trace back at least 10 generations on some of my lines but on my Parker side, I am stuck at my ggg grandfather.
