Baxley Indian Heritage

In my attempts to verify family lore about Baxley Indian heritage in my wife's South Carolina family, I've run across a man named Coy Lee Baxley who died in Florida in 1987. According to his granddaughter, he was in large part Cherokee Indian. Other researchers have traced his ancestry back to John Barnabas Baxley who was born in SC in 1774, but with no mention of the Cherokee heritage. Does anyone have any information on Indian heritage in this Baxley line or any other Baxley line with SC connections?

Have you had any luck on your research for the Baxley Indian Heritage? If so, I would love to hear from you.

I am also searching for the same name. Baxley (F) and Swain (M) were the parents of Jerry Gilbert Swain b.1950 d. 1988. They were all part of the Eastern Band Cherokee Tribe in North Carolina and were all 100% Cherokee. I am trying to find any relatives of either of them (Baxley or Swain). Any info you have would be greatly appreciated.

has anyone found out anything on this yet? I've been wanting to know the answer to this for years, ever since my dad told me we have some Indian in our family. My dad was Travis Baxley Stephens
