ARIAS FROM GALICIA (SPAIN) - MOVED TO SOUTH AMERICA

Agatha Arias Añel  (View posts) Posted: 5 Jul 2000 8:27AM GMT
Hi, im trying to find any relatives that may be in south america.

All i know, is that my fathers side came from Monforte de Lemos, but now living in Ourense.

My grandfathers name is Victorino Arias Lopez and grandmothers name Concepcion Casar Rodriguez. My gf has one sister and one brother still alive. The sister lives in Monforte and the brother in Barcelona. My gm has one brother still alive. My grandparents now live in Orense.

From speaking to my father he believes that some of my grandfathers relatives moved to Cuba.

On my mothers side, both grandparents live in Orense. My gf is from Castro and my gm is from a nearby village. Apparently my gm's sisters moved to South America many years ago (over 25). My gm name is Rosa Maria Machado Gomez and my gf name is Jose Luis Añel Barreal.

Hopefully some one out there will be related to them in some way......

My Gradparents were born in a small seaside town in Galicia, called Ribadeo. I-m searching the genealogy of the Arias to know if we come from Suevians or Celts.
I live in Montevideo / Uruguay, and i belong to the first generation of locally born

I live in São Paulo, Brazil and my father was born in Villafranca del Bierzo (Leon departament but just 8 km far from Galicia border), Spain, and as far as I know, Arias surname comes from his mother Maria Arias. I would like to know more from my grandmother and her roots. I don´t know where she was born.

Regards

Ramón

Soy de Mdeo. pero vivo en los EE.UU. See http://tpino.netfirms.com/arias.htm. It states that Arias is a patronymic surname and that the surname originates from the Suevian kings who reigned over Galicia

To Ramon Perez Arias Filho:

I just read your post of 8 Jan 2001. My Father, Nicolas Arias was born in Villafranca del Bierzo, Spain on 6 Dec 1902.He had a brother who was killed in the Spanish revolution and a couple of sisters. I believe Concepcion was the name of one and I don't know the other. His Father was Andres Arias and his mother was Filomena Bouza.I don't know if there is any connection betweem your father and family and my family? Respond soon. morninglory 1953!!

My grandmother is Aida Arias from Havana, Cuba. She was born in 1911 and married Dr. Francisco Tejera. She moved to the US in 1960. I would like to know the origin of my Arias lineage - I've read Arias can be Celtic, German or Jewish. Thank you.

Antoni1977, I have also heard that our last name was of Jewish ancestry and that they were forced to convert to Catholicism in the 1500's. I understand that the last name originated in Galicia. I know we tracked our lineage to Asturias, Spain, and that's where our family who arrived to Costa Rica in the late 1800's is from from.
