Hello: I too am working on the Leggs in Loudoun Co., Va.
Tabitha Hawley, b. c.1763 to 1769, m. Elijah Legg. Elijah Legg is found in the Loudoun Co., Va. Census in 1810 aged 45+ with wife and 7 children. Elijah Legg and Tabitha Hawley were most likely m. in Loudoun Co., Va , in he Little River Baptist Church. Elijah Legg was b.c. 1765 (1850 Census Franklin Co., Ohio, 84 years old, b. Va. with male Legg age 39) most likely in Prince William Co., Va. and d. in September 24, 1852, Perry Twp., Franklin Co., Ohio. Elijah Legg, perhaps James Elijah Legg, was b. c.1765 to Fortunatus Legg and Hannah, nee Smith, Legg of Prince William Co., Va. Fortunatus Legg was b. April 6, 1723 in North Farnham Parish, Richmond Co., Va., to Thomas Legg II, who was b. c. 1692, and his wife Sarah, nee Davenport, Legg, who was b. 1694. Thomas Legg lived. in Prince William Co., Va.., after 1749 and Fontunatus Legg witnessed a deed there in 1746, Book 1, pg.79-83. Fortunatus Legg is said to have d. on June 18, 1804 in Leesburg, Loudoun Co., Va. Hannah Smith Legg was b. in 1729 in Virginia d. November 30, 1815 in Prince William Co., Va. In Loudoun Co., Va. Land Records P.393, on August 5, 1786 Elijah Legg along with Jeremiah Hutchison, George Hutchison and George Fox witnessed a transaction of a mortgage between William Turner of Fairfax and Moses Hopwood of Loudoun Co., Va. Elijah Legg was possibly an overseer for Fielding Turner of Loudoun Co., Va., as Turner was responsible for his 1789 Tax. Perhahps your Lewis Legg was brother to Elijah Legg? Thank you for your reply. Lewis might possibly be related to that family of Leggs. I have seen most of those names in doing my research, but I can not connect Lewis to any specific parents or siblings. Lewis was residing with John Beveredge in 1805 and 1806. He married Elizabeth Beavers b. 1780 in Loudon County 11 Feb 1806. They had 5 children that I know of born in Loudon Co. Theresa, Seldon, Mahala, Fenton, & John. Fenton was my Great Grandfather. They moved to Pike County, Ohio where Noble, Sanford and Emma were born. Lewis died in Pike Co. in 1840. I appreciate the information you sent me. I just hope I can get it all connected. Thank you for your reply. It occured to me that Lewis Legg may be a son of Tabitha Hawley and Elijah Legg. There was a great deal of association with the family of Lewis and the Legg and Hawley family in Loudoun Co., Va. There are three sons I do not have descendants on, they are below. Could one of them be your Lewis Legg? Also, is Pike Co., Ohio any where near Perry Twp., Franklin Co., Ohio where Tabitha and Elijah Legg died and are buried? I have Tabitha's lineage back to 1686 and am most anxious to identify all her children.
(1) Fielding Legg b. 1789 in Virginia and d. before 1852 in Ohio. He is found in the 1810 Census in Loudoun Co., Va. With 2-1--1-1 2–2. (note: Fielding Turner, brother-in-law to Tabitha Hawley Legg, had a son named Lewis.
(2) Zephaniah Legg is found in the 1810 Loudoun Co., Va. Census with - - 2 - 1 - - 2 - 1- 5. In Fairfax Co., Va., on August 19, 1817, in Zephania Legg, def. Vs. Commonwealth, he is found not guilty. There are many references to Zephaniah Legg in the Fairfax Va., Court Records which have not been read by this author. He is found in the 1820 Loudoun Co., Va., Census next to Joseph Fox.
(3) Willis Legg is found in the 1810 Loudoun Co., Va. Census with - - 1 1 - 2 - 1 1 - 2 3

Thank you for the information. It would be great for both of us if we could tie these Leggs all together. I wondered if Lewis could possibly be Tabitha and Elijah's son. I also wondered if Lewis could be the Willis. Some of the writing back then had so many curls and twists it is sometime difficult to read. Since the are both listed in the 1810 census, I presume they are not. If we can connect them all, I have decendancy done from Lewis Legg to present times. There is a bunch of us. Lewis was born abt. 1771 is the information I have. Does that fit in with the dates of Tabitha and Elijah's marriage? Lewis was in the 1810 census with a wife, 3 children and 1 slave in Loudon County. Franklin County, Ohio is where Columbus, Ohio is located. I am not sure where Perry Twp. is in that county. Pike County is south of Franklin Cobyy about 60 miles. The county seat is Waverly. I also found Leggs in Highland County, Ohio. That is also 50 to 60 miles from Pike. Hillsboro is that county seat.

I think his age does fit in the a potential birth of a child of Tabitha and Elijah Legg as I think she was b. c. 1763. It is hard to judge birth dates from those 1810 Census records for children. So your estimate could be a bit either way. There are just three childen that I have not ientified that I sent you earlier. I have Tabitha's line back to 1686 proved. So if you can tie your guy in let me know. It is interesting that one of the children d. in Ohio.
All best! Laura Mooring62@aol.com

Laura, So far I am stuck with Lewis. I have not been able to tie him in with parents or siblings. Have you seen any wills from the Leggs that might mention him? Thanks for your help. Connie
