My family names are Thompson and Ball. Thompson on my mothers side and Ball on my fathers side. I have been looking for information on the Balls from time to time, but I have never come across anything on the Thompsons. My grandfathers name was Fitchue Lee Thompson. That is how my mother spelled his name, although I believe it to be a bastardization of the name Fitzhugh. I believe my grandfather was a bit of a mystery to my mom as well as she never had much information about his side of the family. There were brothers but I have the impression they settled in other states.

My great great grandfather, Thomas, had been married before. He has two children listed in the 1850 census, Rice who was born in 1836 and William born in 1836. I do not know the name of their mother. I have found them living in Missouri in the 1880 census. Rice is listed as a hardware merchant. William is listed as living with him and his wife Susan. Thomas married Nancy Jane Goode in 1844 in Lincoln County, KY. She was born on 2 Sept. 1827 and died on 23 August 1902 in Ferndale, CA. After Thomas died she left Kentucky and went to live with her son, John, my great grandfather in California. I found a Thomas Dow Morris, born 10 March 1812 in Lincoln, Londoun, Virginia. He died 11 June, 1892. His father is listed as John and his mother as Nancy Pennell. Someone else had this information, but I believe it is the same Thomas Morris. At this time Kentucky was considered a part of Virginia. Thomas and Nancy had numerous children around ten. Last summer I visited Lincoln County and found their former farm. There still is a farm to this day called Morris Farms. Thomas's father John came from Virgina and that's as far as I know. I had heard that my line was descended from Robert Morris and also the Lee family of which Robert E. Lee came. Most of the family was for the confederacy and some like my greatgrandfather for the Union, which is why he and others moved to Missouri because of the family division.

My Thomas Morris was born in 1794 in North Carolina or Virginia. He married Jane Brummett or Brunnitt on 04-15-1823 (Casey Co., KY). He died on 08-16-1857 in Wayne Co., KY. His father's name was John b:1768, and his mother's name was "Viney", both born Virginia or North Carolina. I know nothing beyond that. It is possible that Thomas could have been married before Jane since, if he was born in 1794 (confirmed per death certificate of Thomas), he married Jane at the age of 29. This is a little older than most in that day. Can you tell me the death date of Nancy Jane Goode. Also, did they have children? I have 2 children whose birthdates fall before the marriage (confirmed marriages of Casey Co.). The theory that Thomas could have been married previous to Jane is an interesting one. Thank You.
My great great grandfather Thomas Morris lived in Lincoln County, Kentucky before it became a state. It may have been part of Casey county then. He married Nancy Jane Goode in Lincoln County in 1844. I do not know the names of Thomas's brothers or sisters. I had heard that his father was John and the family came from Virginia. I don't know much beyond John, except that the family was connected to the Robert E. Lee family. The Morris family in Kentucky was divided during the Civil War. My great grandfather, John, moved to Missouri because of his support for the Union. Later, in 1886 he moved to California and settled in Ferndale. Later, he moved to El Cerrito where he owned a grocery store. I was wondering if the John Morris from Virginia would be the father of Thomas? Do you know the father of John? I am trying to trace my ancestry back further. My grandfather was Walter Robert Morris, and his sons were John Walter and Robert Lee who was my father.

Annie's middle name is Runnie. This is from my entry in my Family Bible, information given to me by my grandfather - Bill, Annie's husband.
You are correct in them having 5 children, I am the daughter of their oldest, Elder. From family information,
the infants that did not survive were all born prior to my dad. I have not been to the cemetery since I was very young. My Aunt Pauline had wanted all of us to go and we were planning that, however, we did not get the opportunity to do so before she passed away. Hope you and your family are doing well. Please stay in touch. Sincerely, Lois

I have some information on Annie and family. I have 5 children listed to this family. I would like to know Annie's Middle name. I have found it listed as Runyon and Rooney. John and Victoria Dawson also have infant twins buried at the top of the hill near Arch. I was told by Mom that there should be 2 wood markers there. They are not there now. I do not remember seeing markers for infant graves when I was there near Annie's stone. The grave yard is being taken care of by family in the area. I am the s/o Zella Dawson Daniels d/o John.
Thanks udaniels@wcs.k12.va.us

My grandmother, Annie Dawson Keen is buried here, you have her in your listing, I understand from family members that my grandparents have 6 infant children also buried there, near my grandmother. We are not sure if there are any markers for the babies, but my grandmother does have one. Thanks for sharing your information. My dad was Annie and Bill's son, I can share family information on their children if you do not have it. Her parents are listed as Grady Johnson and Jane McClanihan. Note the spelling of McClanihan. Apparently your Mary was a Johnson before she married a Justice.
KY in 1922, who lists the mother as Jane McClanahan, and the father is very unreadible. I'm hoping Jane was married here in Buchanan Co. most likely 1860-1870. Thanks for any help. Mary was born in Pike Co. KY, but because I don't have her surname, I'm struggling with this puzzle. John Blair

I'm been doing a lot of Compton research and have a family that no one else seems to have ever traced....anyone out there?? They appear on the Buchanan Co. census in 1900 and in New Garden, Russell Co. VA on the 1910. I can't locate any of the family after 1910. I'm pretty sure that this William (either Wm. B. or Wm. K) is the son of Henry & Cecelia Compton who were in Buchanan Co.

Descendants of William B. Compton

1 William B. Compton	1867 -
. +Sarah F.	1871 -
......	2 Leah V. Compton	1891 -
......	2 Lutina Compton	1893 -
......	2 Celia D.
I have written a book on the Tolbert Charles family, but have never published it. Hearing all these humorous stories on line makes me think I need to get it in publication. Tolbert was truly a Charles. I have pictures of him and his wife, Sarah Ann Coleman Charles and most of their children. If you would like to email me directly at fishinfoolrs@aim.com I may be able to help you.
Rodney

Jerry,

Death certificates show that Madison died March 15 of "chronic nephritis" and that Nance died December 8 of "acute nephritis". That's all I know currently. I've been trying to find the cemetery but have had no success. I've never found a marriage record either.

I saw "Madison Henderson Looney" in Tilton's Looney manuscript and then learned from an uncle that my grandfather was named Matt. I then found Madison and his children (including my Grandfather J. Paris Looney) in census records to confirm the verbal record and Tilton. However, I believe his middle name was Franklin or at least began with "F". Tilton's manuscript has an error - Henderson Looney was born next after Madison. A simple error in not hitting "return" on the typewriter keyboard threw us a curve!

Joe

Then I would probably send to Richmond and let them look.
Most of the ones for that period in Buchanan have been destroyed by floods, but they are on record in Richmond.

Several years ago, I need a death record for my Grandmother, for an application to a lineage society. I told them it was destroyed, because I had looked in Buchanan County and it was not there. At the time I didn't realize they had been kept since 1912, and my grandmother had died in 1915.
I was told to send to Richmond for the record, and I could use the letter I received, telling me none existed, to get around providing my grandmother's death record. To my total shock, I received a copy of her death record.....Buchanan Death Certificate # 2, dated 9 Feb 1915.
Now I don't know if they have some that are not numbered, but I am sure there were deaths in the county from 1912-1915.
So it might be worth it to check with Richmond.
I have been looking at the Kentucky records for years...with no luck. I just know that they visited family in Buchanan Co.from time to time and thought that maybe something may have happened while on a visit and the Death Certificate might have been in Va instead of Kentucky.

Again...thanks a lot

If the family is in KY 1910, and again in 1920, I would check the KY death records, first.
I am not sure if they are online.
I am not sure if Pike county would have those records, or if they would be found in Frankfort.

For those years, records can only be obtained from the Vitals Records in Richmond.
There is a form to be filled out and a fee for each one.
Do an interent for "Virginia Vital Records" and you should be able to locate the form. If not, email me and I will see if I can find the link.
