Peggy,
Thanks so much. I also found an article called "The Sisters Leave Their Mark:Folk Architecture and Family History by Howard Wight Marshall. It's pretty informative if you're interested. I have been busy the couple of days with the kids so I haven't had a chance to get back to you.
Nathaniel Cornett married Elizabeth Boggs and or Mildred Hensley. I don't know which wife was the mother. His son, William Jefferson married Nancy Schaffer/Schiffer in 1811. They had William Jackson who was married four times, first to Zerilda Pilcher. Their son, William Lewis Cornett married Martha Kansas Moore and they are the subject of the Cornett family Papers. Pretty cool!

I have a Rural Missouri magazine from October, 1986, that contains a great article about the Cornetts from Linn County. The article was written to tell the story of the Cornetts and how their "papers" were donated to M.U. I would make a copy for you if you are interested. Peggy Cornett-Kay

Peggy, Thanks for the reply. I am trying to gather all my Cornett information together to review the info I have on the Cornett brothers. It is too bad there is little to no evidence that Roger and Nathaniel fought in the Rev war, although family history claims it. Where there's smoke...it may be that they never applied for any pension and that is why it's so hard to prove. As for the Cornett papers in Missori, you can google it. It took me a while, but I finally made the connection between the papers and Nathaniel. I'll give you my info but Im not at home right now. I'll post another reply this afternoon. Ah, the many Cornett connections! C Cornett

I was so happy to receive your email. What are the Cornett papers at M.U.? I grew up in Mexico, MO. There are still some Cornetts in that area. I have been emailing with Katy Cornett from KY. Very interesting. She has great information. I have invited her to the annual Cornett reunion, perhaps you could attend, also. It is in Rush Hill, MO on the 1st Sunday of August, every year. I just can't prove that old Nathaniel ever served his country in the Revolutionary War. I am trying to complete DAR papers. His brother served, however. I would love to exchange information with you. Peggy Cornett-Kay

Hey there!
What information do you already have? I am happy to provide anything I've got. My notes are all over the place since I am studying up on several families, but I'll gather my Cornett papers and look into Nathaniel. His brother,Roger, had a son named Samuel that relocated to Missouri as well for twenty years before moving to Texas. I live in Kansas City right now so I'm close to Johnson and Henry Counties where many of them lived. Let me know! Where are you living at the moment? Are you familiar with the Cornett Papers located at the University of Missouri? I believe they are about the Cornett farm owned by Nathaniel's great-great grandson,William Lewis Cornett. Hope to hear from you, Cathy Cornett

Thanks so very much for the lookup. I really appreciate your help. I don’t have a connection (yet) for a Morton or Preston WORD. I do though for Victoria WORD ... Ann Victoria WORD born about 1848 in Houston, Chickasaw, Mississippi, died Jan 1870 in Goliad, Goliad, Texas. FYI (and just in case someday someone out there is looking ever) Ann Victoria WORD (1848-1870) was the sister of Callie [WORD] RICHEY. Of course, it’s Callie and her son Will RICHEY that I am looking for their place(s) of burial. Also -- just in case -- other siblings of Callie and Victoria WORD were: Virginia Smith WORD (1840-1908); Mary Virginia WORD (1842-?); Bruce L WORD (1843-?); James Thomas WORD (1846-1909);and William Evans WORD (1858-?) ... and another associated Surname for this WORD family is PITTMAN, J. H. & Laura. Thanks again!

There show to be two Words buried in Oak Hill Cemetery being- Morton 1868-1880 & Preston 1838-1875. One Word is buried in the Peck Cemetery(also in Goliad)- Viola Peck Word ?-1869 The last Word I find in this book is from the Mortality Schedule from the 1870 census showing a Victoria Word who died from inflamation & shows her being born in Miss..
I am looking for family burials in Goliad County, Texas ... the surnames of interest are RICHEY and WORD ... in particular I am looking for the burial place of Callie [maiden name WORD] RICHEY who I believe was born abt 1851 and died in TX (with burial in Goliad) in or abt. 1880. I am also looking for her son's place of burial -- William Word RICHEY born TX 1876 and died Webb Co. TX 1932 ... his death certificate says his body was tramsported to Goliad, TX for burial ... I believe he would have been interned near his mother and possibly other WORD family members ... any assistance is appreciated.

Birth, Marriage, Death info for Lifus McMickle/Ann Robertson

Hello, I was wondering if someone could help me break through my geneology brick wall? My great grandfather was Lifus Lanier McMickle, b. 1851 TX. He is listed in the 1880 Goliad Census as a servant in the John & Mary Cash household. I do know that he married Ann Robertson and I just happened to see an Annie Robertson in that same census and precinct. Her age and birthplace coincides with my records and it shows her as having a brother, Franklin which I know to be true. I hesitate though to make the assumption that this Annie is my great grandmother, though it seems plausible. I'm looking for records confirming the marriage of Lifus and Ann and any other info connected to this. I have not been able to find out any information about Lifus only that he was born in TX. I would hope to find what county he was born in and who his parents were. It could prove helpful to know who John C. Cash is and what his occupation was. Thank you for making this census available, it's so exciting to find new info!

Lula Gray Smith's husband was Robert Daniel Smith, the son of Thomas Preston Smith and Martha Odell Crum. According to his death certificate he was born 25 June 1888 in Coryell County, Texas. He died 19 January 1963 in Goliad County, Texas, and is buried in Glendale Cemetery.

In 1910, Robert Daniel and Lula, along with their daughter Myrtle are living with his parents in Matagorda County, Texas. In 1920, they are in Bandera County, Texas. In 1930 they are living in Goliad County, Texas.

As I stated, in 1910 they had one child, Myrtle, who was two months old.

In 1920 their children are: Myrtle, 10, Ray, 8; Alton 4, and Ruth 2 months.

In 1930, their children at home are: Myrtle, 20; Ray, 18; Alton, 16; Ruth, 13; Alene, 11; Freddie, 5; and Margaret, 3.

Ruth Newman was the informant on Robert Daniel's death certificate. I believe she is his daughter Ruth.

According to their son Alton Claud Smith's death certificate, he was born 13 Feb 191 in Goliad Co. Texas, and died 24 April 1975. The informant was his son, Garland Smith. Alton is buried in Glendale Cemetery. Alton Claud (Daniel) Smith married Elfie Marie Boehl. They had three sons. On one birth certificate his name is given as Alton Claud Smith, which is also the name on his death certificate. Two of the birth records have Alford Daniel Smith.

Here is a website for the parents and siblings of Robert Daniel Smith.
http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

I am not related to this family.

According to her death certificate, he died before her.

I'm hoping someone out there has a complete listing of the cemetery, or knew this family, and can give me his name! It would also be nice to know if they had any children.

Any help is appreciated!

Hello,

In Genealogical Study done by William N Arnold in 1979, there was a section written about the Warwick (Wardick) -- O'Bryan (O'Brien) lines (Catherine Winifred O'Brien (O'Bryan) was my great great grandmother)

The below info is from that study:

It states that Michael James Warwick (Wardick) died Dec 20 1890 and was buried in Brady, Texas where his grandson lived, John B. O'Brien (O'Bryan)

John's mother was Mary Ann Warwick (Wardick) who married James William O'Brien (O'Bryan)

Mary Ann died in Goliad, Texas on July 28 1906 and was buried in Brady, Texas where her son lived.

It also says that Mary Ann's husband, James William, died and was buried in Galveston, Texas about 3 months prior to the birth of their son, John B.

The reason I have listed dual surnames is that according to the study, there is considerable confusion with respect to the spelling. William Arnold's mother (Mary Elizabeth Arnold nee Angerstein) and grandmother, on every occasion stated that the surnames were Warwick and O'Bryan. Yet when he researched early records of Goliad county and US Census records, they reflected spellings of Wardick and O'Brien

Hope this helps
Edie
