Peggy,
I responded to your post on the Cornett message board but I may have sent it to Lynn instead. My husbands 4th great grandfather was Roger Cornett brother to Nathaniel. His son, Samuel Brack Cornett, relocated from Kentucky to Missouri for twenty years before moving to Goliad Texas. Let me know if I can help. CC

Sorry, Lynn. I did in fact send my post to the wrong person. Glad to hear from you, I'm getting ready to post a photo of Brack Cornett so take a look. Take care, Cathy

I was so happy to receive your email. What are the Cornett papers at M.U.? I grew up in Mexico, MO. There are still some Cornetts in that area. I have been emailing with Katy Cornett from KY. Very interesting. She has great information. I have invited her to the annual Cornett reunion, perhaps you could attend, also. It is in Rush Hill, MO on the 1st Sunday of August, every year. I just can't prove that old Nathaniel ever served his country in the Revolutionary War. I am trying to complete DAR papers. His brother served, however. I would love to exchange information with you. Peggy, Thanks for the reply. I am trying to gather all my Cornett information together to review the info I have on the Cornett brothers. It is too bad there is little to no evidence that Roger and Nathaniel fought in the Rev war, although family history claims it. Where there's smoke...it may be that they never applied for any pension and that is why it's so hard to prove. As for the Cornett papers in Missori, you can google it. It took me a while, but I finally made the connection between the papers and Nathaniel. I'll give you my info but Im not at home right now. I'll post another reply this afternoon. Ah, the many Cornett connections! C Cornett

I have a Rural Missouri magazine from October, 1986, that contains a great article about the Cornetts from Linn County. The article was written to tell the story of the Cornetts and how their "papers" were donated to M.U. I would make a copy for you if you are interested. Peggy Cornett-Kay

Peggy,
Thanks so much. I also found an article called "The Sisters Leave Their Mark:Folk Architecture and Family History by Howard Wight Marshall. It's pretty informative if you're interested. I have been busy the couple of days with the kids so I haven't had a chance to get back to you.
Nathaniel Cornett married Elizabeth Boggs and or Mildred Hensley. I don't know which wife was the mother. His son, William Jefferson married Nancy Schaffer/Schiffer in 1811. They had William Jackson who was married four times, first to Zerilda Pilcher. Their son, William Lewis Cornett married Martha Kansas Moore and they are the subject of the Cornett family Papers. Pretty cool!
