Robert W. Latimer (who was my great great grandfather) was born about 1815 in Tennessee, came to Texas o/a 1840. He was listed on some later Census Records as R.W. by the enumerator. He is found on the Republic of Texas Tax Lists of 1840. He married Nancy Greenwood in Tennessee o/a 1836. They had two children, James Robert Latimer and John G. Latimer, who were born in Tennessee. He had several children born in Texas and several born in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana. When he came to Texas he was in Nacogdoches County; later was in Rusk (on 1850 Census) and Shelby (on 1860 Census) Counties. I am trying to find out who Robert W. Latimer's parents were, where in Tennessee he came from, and where he and his wife were married and children were born. I have not been able to determine where he died; he was in Bosque County on the 1880 Census.

His father was Wetheral Latimer who died in Pope Co, Ark and his mother was Margeret, who was his first wife. After she died he married a woman named Abilgail and had more childern & lived in Clarksville for a while. There is an Obituary for him in the newspaper in the town he died in, but I don't have that information with me. Robert Wetheral Latimer was my great, great, great Grandfather. I have through letters from A.M. Truitt, who was married to Minta or Minnie Latimer Truitt (Robert & Nancy's youngest daughter), found out that Robert died in Brownwood. A.M. Truitt called him "Old man Latimer". He was pretty nomatic, going to the next prosperous place. Bosque County in 1880 was the place to be after the Civil War and Reconstruction. His son Thomas Latimer and son-n-law A.M.Truitt took their families and hit the road with Robert and Nancy. I haven't found out where Nancy is buried yet but I am trying to get in touch with the Thomas Latimer group that travel with them. My great, great grandfather was James Robert, his wife was Emily Jane Porter Latimer; great grandfather is Luther B. "Pete" Latimer, his wife Fannie Mahaya Black Latimer; grandfather John Tom Latimer, wife Eva Samford Latimer; father Johnnie Glenn Latimer, mother Norrie F. Cooper Latimer. Everyone, except for my mother are buried at the Truitt cemetery in Shelby Co, Tx. Which child of Robert W. Latimer are you through? Send me your email and I can sen you the information I have. My aunt has sketches of the Plantation in La. that they lived for awhile.
