What I know is that the
Thurman family of my first husband came to
Dyer Co, TN from
Spencer Co, IN.
Pleasant
Thurman b abt 1814 married Emily
Lamar 15 Jan 1843 in
Spencer Co, IN and they had the following children:
Nancy A. b 1844
John N. b 1846
William F. b 1848
Mary J. b 1850

Mandy E. b 1854
Louisa M. b 1859
Lewis Alfred b 1870
Bette
Brandel provided the following information March 96:
"We were never able to determine Pleasant's parents. The THURMAN's,
Schoolfield's, and Lamar's (along with the Lincoln's) settled in
Spencer County in the early 1800's, and it appears they may have moved together from
KY and even earlier from VA. We do know that
Pleasant and some of his family along the Criswell's, Tharp's, and Schoolfield's came down the
Mississippi River on flatboats when Lewis
Thurman was about 8 years old (abt 1878) to West
Tennessee to cut lumber and settled in the hills of
Dyer county, where
Pleasant is buried.
