Knight/Sullivan in Chesterfield County

Searching for Unknown Sullivan(t) that is believed to have been born in the Carolina's (but could have been Ireland for all we know) in the middle to late 1700's. No clue about his immediate family except that he married in Chesterfield County and was the son-in-law of Rev. Aaron Knight. There is dispute as to whether he married Eunice or Louise. He went by the name of Spires/Spiers in Rev. Knight's diary, but I'm pretty convinced that was either a middle name or a nickname. There is the possibility that his mother/grandmother could have been a Spires/Spiers and that's the source of that name. Anyone have anything matching this?

I can't add much to what you already have, but I can offer confirmation. In my information, I have that a Spires Sullivan did marry the daughter of Reverend Aaron Knight. They had a son named William who married Mary Dinkins. Their son was James Sullivan, born in 1846, who is my GGGgrandfather. I have pretty good information on him and his children if you are interested.

I am pretty sure that Spires was born in the Carolinas as you suggested.

I hope this has been helpful! If you know anything else about this, I would love to hear from you! I'm hoping to be able to trace my line of the Sullivans back to Ireland. Feel free to email me directly.

I just wanted to add a correction to my own post in case anyone else is using this message board as a reference. Spires married the daughter of Rev. Aaron Knight (Eunice) and they had three sons. One of these sons was Thomas who married Mourning (maiden name unknown). They had a son named William. I had missed a generation in my previous message.

Gerald,

As far as I can tell, this is not the same family. I do have a John Adams Sullivan married to an Eliza Kirkley in my line, but my grandfather said they did not have a child named Emoline. Do you know anything else about these Sullivans/Kirkleys? Sorry I could not be of more help. Best of luck.

Jessica

Hello Donna, I am glad for you to join in. My grandfather was John Adams Sullivan (born in 1877) and my grandmother was Elizabeth Jane Kirkley (born in 1876). They had four children: Lucy, Bessie, Cletis and Emsy. Emsy was my father. There is another John Sullivan that was older but I'm not sure who his father was. But I will see if I can
find out. I saw the name Emmaline Sullivan on the message board but I had never heard of it before. Is your family tree un donalitt1? If so, invite me to look at it if you
will and maybe we can connect the dots, so to speak.
Hope to hear from you soon.
Jean
