Westmoreland County is a big place, so is more detail on where Pleasant Hill Cemetery is located:

Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Allegheny Township, Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania

This cemetery is located in the far north of Westmoreland County. You can see a map here:

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=cr&CRid=45...;

The cemetery is across the river from Leechburg near West Leechburg. Leechburg is in Armstrong County. West Leechburg is in Westmoreland County

Driving directions from town of Leechburg to Pleasant Hill Cemetery

Classification: Cemetery
1. From the traffic light in Leechburg, drive west on Rt 56/356. You will immediately cross the green, metal bridge across the Kiskiminetas River, thus going from Armstrong County into Westmoreland County. (You are driving on Main Street.)
2. After driving 0.7 miles from the traffic light, turn right where the small green sign says "West Leechburg 2 -->"
3. Follow this 2-lane road up the hill for 0.4 miles. Near the top of the hill turn left onto Pleasant Hill Road. (There is no stop sign for you here.)
4. Follow this 2-lane road uphill for 0.1 miles until you come to a stop sign near the top of the hill. Turn left at the stop sign to stay on Pleasant Hill Road.
5. Drive straight ahead for 0.2 miles. You will see the cemetery on your left.

Correction: The road across the bridge is 3rd St.

Thanks so much for posting pictures of the Kepple gravestones in Pleasant Hill Cemetery. These were the last pieces of info we needed to finish a DAR application I have been working on with a prospective member.
Thanks Again
P. Stehm

PS Do you know where the Artman Family Cemetery is in Westmoreland County? It is a family cemetery near Markle in Allegheny Twp. about 2 miles from the highway in a heavily wooded area. That is all I know. I found this info in DAR records.

I don't know where it is. I know of a farmer who told me that ARTMANs are buried on his property in Allegheny Township, but it isn't very close to Markle. I have been a faithful customer in his store for many years. I asked if I could photograph the gravestones, but he just turned and walked away from me. All these "locals" tend to be very unccooperative. He told me the "Allegheny Township Historical Society" went around and recoreded all the information from isolated burials on farms, and then made a report. I told him that those "old reports" get lost all the time." That's when he turned and walked away from me. None of these people care, really. By the way, I never even heard of that historical society.

As an alternative, you might want to contact Victorian Vandergrift (loctaed in Vandergrift). I would write them a letter and ask them to circulate it among their volunteers. One of them might know.

Another possibility is to see whether Victorian Vandergrift or Apollo Librray have a "family history" for the ARTMAN surname. Both of these places have family histories of surnames in the local area. These were donated by people who researched the surname. ARTMAN is a very significant surname in this area. If you try this you can just call those two places because all they have to do is walk over to the shelf and look for the ARTMAN name on the shelf.

Hi Alan,
I have to laugh at your response, because the lady that I am working with said almost the same thing about the people up there. No one is helpful. The transcription that I have is from a DAR survey made in 1961 by ladies of the Massy Harbison Chapter, New Kensington, PA. I am quoting from the page "(This is a family cemetery, near Markle, in Allegheny Township, Westmoreland County, PA. It is about two miles across fields from the highway, in a heavily wooded area.)
It is not critical to have gravestone photos because I have this cemetery survey from 1961. But the genealogist in me doesn't like to leave any stone (ha, ha) unturned!
Thanks for your response,
Phyllis
