1911 envelope sent to Newberry from Hrastnik, Austria (now Slovenia)

I recently found a photograph of an old envelope that was sent to Katerina CJUERRA(?) of Newberry from Hrastnik, Austria (now Slovenia) in 1911. You can see the envelope on http://philgen.org (search on CJUERRA, click on View, and scroll to the bottom of the page), or click on the link below. I am unable to find a Katerina CJUERRA (or a similar name) in Newberry and wondered if someone more familiar with the area can find her. I believe that Hrastnik may be her or her parents' birthplace and this envelope may be helpful to someone in their genealogical research. The reason I have a photo of the envelope is because of my interest in using old envelopes and postcards in genealogical research. I have an article in the spring 2009 issue of New England Ancestors entitled Philatelic Genealogy (viewable at the philgen website) and have started the philgen website.

Here is a direct link to the photo of the envelope: http://philgen.org/index.php?option=com_fabrik&c=form&am...

My ancestor is Thomas Jefferson Toner's brother, William Henderson, but, I have also done a lot of research on Thomas Jefferson and have corresponded with a few of his descendants this year. I would be interested in any info. you have on this family and I am willing to share all I have as well.

Here's another one for your collection! Thomas Jefferson Toner and Martha Marr were the parents of of John Stillwell Toner, who married Sarah Amelia Auble. They had four kids, one of whom, Margaret Elizabeth Toner, was my great-grandmother. She married Philip Anthony Zindel, and they settled in Lock Haven. He was a very busy man, a high-end green grocer, started the fire dept and as Supt. of the water dept., built a beautiful little park around the original water source called Zindel Park. My dad collected information on the other three kids as well.

He married Sarah Amelia Auble, and they had four children, one of whom was my great-grandmother, Margaret Elizabeth Toner Zindel. We have some info on the other three as well.

Richard L. "Dick" Temple, 71, of Lairdsville passed away at his home, Wednesday evening, Oct. 28, 2009. He had been in ill health for the past year.

He was born Feb. 7, 1938, in Moreland Twp., Lycoming County, a son of the late Archie E. and Alberta S. (Magargle) Temple. April 19, 1958, he married the former Helen L. (Kessler) Temple, who survives.

He was a member of the Moreland Baptist Church. Dick was the owner of Richard L. Temple & Sons Logging, which he was a subcontractor with Dwight Lewis Lumber Co., Hillsgrove for the past 34 years. He graduated from the Hughesville High School, Class of 1956.

I am searching for the families of 4 soldiers that were POW/KIA in the Korean War. When they entered service they gave Lycoming County as thier home of record

Soldier: ROBERT LEWIS FELIX
Born: 1929
Date of loss; Msy 19, 1951 POW

Soldier: ARNOLD RAY FLOOK
Born: 1916
Loss: Dec. 7, 1950 KIA

Soldier: JOSEPH ALBERT MCELROY
Born: 1918
Loss: July 20, 1950

Soldier: CLAUDE H WILLIAMSON
Born: 1931
Loss: July 11, 1950 POW

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. These are 117 families from Pennsylvania that are missing and 4 from Lycoming County.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (79years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Are you descended from Harriet Keyser? She was the daughter of Henry Keyser and Catherine Schlonaker, I believe. I have the full pension application of Henry and then Catherine for Henry's War of 1812 service. Much to my regret,I found he was not MY Henry Keyser: although he was a comtemporary and also named a son Aaron as my Henry did. However, my Henry married an Elizabeth King and they lived in Worcester Twp., Montgomery Co. for a few years. I believe MY Henry served in the war of 1812 from Berks Co. and got land warrants instead of a pension. Please let me know if you would like this pension copy-I will be happy to send to you-seems a shame just to discard it. Margaret

Nancy, I am a descendent of James Fargus Smith too. I am descended from James and Mary Catherine Evans daughter Marion Mayfield Smith. I too am trying to trace Francis Fargus and his parents. I'm stuck because of Catherine's answer on the 1800 census that her father was born in Ireland. It seems that everyone else thinks that he was born in Pennsylvania. I've been trying to verify this through his other children's census records but am having no luck. Have you had any further luck with this since you posted this query?

Hello Chip. Thanks for getting back to me. To the best of my knowledge we have never met. I do not know many of the Keller side of my tree and have been searching for relations only about six months. Most of the information I have is through my mother, Edna, which is Theodore's daughter. The Keller's that I do know now do not associate much with each other and I have no known addresses or phone numbers for contact. I'm trying to go as deep as I can in the information, including marriages, maiden names, military history or anything that I can find. Right now I am attending college and don't have much free time to delve into the research but have some information of the living Keller's. I would like to exchange info with you on the past Keller's if you wouldn't mind sharing. I live in Hughesville, PA now and there is a relation that lives in South Williamsport, PA and we have been emailing each other with updates. Their tree is "Terry-Savitts" (spelling?) on ancestry. He is the only one that has shared any info with me. Other than that I only have what my mother has been able to provide. Unfortunately I was born late and a lot of the ancestors had already passed. I have a tree posted here as well: "Hurst Family Tree". Feel free to check it out and if there is info that you have and I don't, I would appreciate you sharing. Thanks again.
Hi Tammy

There were four Millers in the 7th Pa Cavalry, Company D-

Robert B, veteran, mustered in 10/9/1861. Re-enlisted as veteran 11/28/1863. Mustered out with company at Macon Georgia 8/23/1865. Lived at Jackson Co, Alabama.

George R-Mustered in 12/4/1861-mustered out 2/28/1865. Resided in Avery, Kansas

Robert J-Mustered in 2/24/1864, was in hospital at muster out-resided in Turbotville, Pa

Benjamin F-recruit-mustered in 2/27/1864, also in hospital at muster out. Residence Muncy, Pa

There were other Millers in each of the other companies, but no "Peter" that I could find. I stick with company D because they are from my local area, and our ancestors were in the regiment.

I believe I have some correspondence from Robert B Miller -he moved to Alabama as did our great uncle who was in the 7th Pa Cavalry. Do you tie in to any of these Millers? You can email me at kew759@windstream.net. Thanks! Kathi

Hi,
I am looking for help with my PA ancestors. My greatgrandfather was Robert Broomfield Miller born aroun 1840. He married Mary Jane Ritter and had one daughter named Olive before moving to AL. He fought in the Civil War. In that enlistment, he stated his parents were James and Sarah Miller. He was born in Lycoming County and in 1861 lived in Dewart, Northumberland County. I would love to know where the middle name Broomfield came from.
