WASHINGTON D.C. - Mr. Philip Reed Adkins age 57 of Washington, DC and Rehobeth Beach, Delaware, passed away Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at the Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia, PA.

Mr. Adkins retired as Director of Benefits for the law firm of Arnold & Porter of Washington, DC. He was a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

He is survived by his life partner of 16 years, Richard Meyers; his mother, Louise Adkins of Lowgap; sister, Alison Groene and husband, Donn of Belmont, NC; nephew, Robert Farrell and wife, Lisa of Raleigh; niece, Lindsey Burr and husband, Dr. Jarrett Burr of Davidson, NC; his aunt, Lorna Adkins of Stuart, VA; and numerous cousins.

A Graveside Service will be held Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 11 a.m. at the Carson-Hodges Family Cemetery in Lowgap. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 6000 Fairview Rd. Suite 200 Charlotte, NC 28210 or to the charity of the donors choice.
