Curtis Ray Collins Obit

PINNACLE- Mr. Curtis Ray Collins, age 69, of Pinnacle passed away on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center.

Mr. Collins was born in Stokes County on February 3, 1940 to the late William Lee and Flora Ella Brown Collins.

Mr. Collins retired from the City of Kernersville and was of the Baptist faith.

Curtis is survived by one daughter Renee Collins Freeman and son-in-law James L. Freeman of Pinnacle; three grandchildren, David Ray Lunsford, Eddie Lee Green and Stephanie Nichole Freeman; two great grandchildren, Elizabeth Renee Lunsford and Macy Jayne McKensie; one sister, Rosie Brown of Apex, NC.

Mr. Collins was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Patsy M. Collins, one son, Dennis Ray Collins and one daughter, Tonya Gail Collins.

Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at Cox-Needham Chapel at 2:00 P.M with Bro. Don Collins and Rev. Clayton Smith officiating with interment to follow in the Whitaker Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Saturday, November 21, 2009 from 7-9 PM at Cox-Needham Funeral Home. Cox-Needham Funeral Home of Pilot Mountain is assisting the Collins family.

Sadie Massey Hartgrove Obit

GERMANTON - Mrs. Sadie Massey Hartgrove, 88, died Friday, November 20, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospice House in Bogart, GA.

She was born in Calhoun County, MS to John Stoklin and Annie Paradine Turner Massey.

She retired from Western Electric Company in Winston-Salem, NC as a Payroll Accountant after many years of service. She was a member of Germanton Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceeded in death in 1983 by her husband, Clyde Thomas Hartgrove; a sister, Canzie Massey McGuire; and two brothers, Hugh Dean Massey and John W. Massey.

She is survived by her daughter, Sarah Hartgrove Brown; a granddaughter, Salem Massey Brown, both of Watkinsville, GA; a sister-in-law, Vivian Massey of Bruce, MS; three nieces; and four nephews.

Funeral Service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at Germanton Baptist Church with the Rev. Robert Lattimore officiating. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. this evening, November 23, at Burroughs Funeral Home. GERMANTON - Mr. Henry Russell Sands, 78, died Sunday, November 22, 2009 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice.

He was born in Stokes County to William Zeke and Lemma Welch Sands.

He was retired from Hanes, where he worked as a mechanic and he attended Stafford Community Chapel.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, John Timothy Sands and Randy Sands, one sister, Thelma Bullins, and two brothers, Raleigh Sands and William Zeke Sands, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Lucille Lankford Sands, three children, Fred Russell (Jo Ann) Sands of Surf City, Judith Marie (Mark, Sr.) Brown of Yadkinville, and Alvin Thomas (Karen) Sands of Clemmons, one brother, Glenn Sands, six grandchildren, Rusty Sands, Melody Brown Chipley, and Mark Brown, Jr., Katie Sands, Julie Cottingham and Lynzi Sands, and six great grandchildren, Olivia, Jamie, Trystn, Logan, Micaiah and Bianca, and numerous nieces and nephews.

The 11:00 a.m. funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Stafford Community Chapel, with Pastor Daniel Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. PILOT MOUNTAIN - Mae Lawson Phillips, age 81, of Pilot Mountain passed away on Sunday, November 22, 2009 at her home.

Mrs. Phillips was born in Stokes County on February 29, 1928 to the late Canie W. and Ella Woods Lawson.

Mae was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother and a member of Whitaker's Chapel United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Phillips is survived by her husband of 62 years, Ebbie L. Phillips of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Steve (Dianne M.) Phillips of Pilot Mountain; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra P. (Charles N.) Reynolds of Lexington; three grandchildren, Sara R. Smith, Ashley R. Phillips and Jake M. Phillips; two great grandchildren, Olivia Garren and Grace Smith; two brothers, Alvis W. and Wilbert Lawson; four sisters, Christina L. Samuels, Frances L. Gunter, Rebecca L. McCreary and Faye L. Southern.

Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers; Perry and Davis Lawson.

A Graveside Service will be held at 11:00 a.m, Wednesday, November 25, 2009 at Whitaker's Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Mr. Don Walker speaking. SANDY RIDGE — Jean Carol Richardson Martin, 67, of 3064 Hwy 770, went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, November 24, 2009.

A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, November 25 at Amos Cemetery.

Mrs. Martin was born in Stokes County to the late John Henderson and Bessie Hancock Richardson.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Larry Winford Martin.

Survivors include her son Dale Martin (Sherry) and daughter, Joni Jarrett (Jason), all of Sandy Ridge; three sisters, Frances Manuel of Madison, Brenda Stovall of Lawsonville, and Judy Joyce, Stoneville; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

EDEN — Mr. Larry Leo King, 64, of 503 Cedar Street, passed away on Saturday evening, November 21, 2009, at his residence.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25, at Boone-Reynolds Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Snow Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Stokes County.

Mr. King was born in Stokes County on February 8, 1945, the son of the late William Leo King and Lorinda Mabe King.

He was of the Primitive Baptist faith.

He is survived by his mother, Lorinda King, of the home; his aunt, Maggie Mabe of Stokes County; and his uncles, Boss Mabe of Eden and Wes Mabe of Stokes County.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24, at Boone-Reynolds Funeral Home and other times at the residence.

KING - Ty Eric Boles, 42, died Tuesday, November 24, 2009.

He was born August 14, 1967 in Forsyth County to Steven Lee Boles, Sr. and Pam Kiser Boles.

Ty was a 1985 graduate of South Stokes High School and 1989 graduate of UNC Charlotte. He served on the Stokes County Board of Education for 8 years. Ty was one of the founding members and the first vice-president of the West Stokes Prowlers Youth Organization and also coached King Little League and SCYBL. He most recently attended Olive Grove Baptist Church. Along with his other activities he most enjoyed spending time with his family and with his buddies out saltwater fishing or enjoying a ballgame.

He is survived by his wife, Karen Wheeler Boles, and his children, Taylor Elizabeth Boles and Dalton Blake Boles; his mother and father, Pam and Steve Boles; maternal grandmother, Adeline Hall Kiser, a brother, Steven Lee Boles, Jr. and wife, Tina; mother and father-in-law, Lenora and Denny Wheeler; nieces and nephews, Brock Wheeler, Lindsay Wheeler, Brittany Boles and Seth Boles.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 7:00 p.m., Friday, November 27, at West Stokes High School with the Rev. Mitch Robertson officiating. Prior to the service, friends are invited to join the family in the school cafeteria, from 5:00 until 6:30, for a tailgate reception in Ty's honor. WINSTON-SALEM - Mr. Joseph Daniel Mitchell, 83, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at his home.

He was born in Stokes County to James Edward and Ida Mae Bowman Mitchell.

He retired from Western Electric after 35 years of service and was a member of the Telephone Pioneers. Mr. Mitchell served in WWII aboard the U.S.S. Ticonderoga in the Pacific Ocean from January 1945 until October 1945. He loved to work in his garden and fishing at the coast.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife: Edith Wolfe Mitchell in 2008 and three brothers: Charles Bailey Mitchell, James Morrison Mitchell and Clarence Mitchell; and grandson, Captain Seth Mitchell, USMC.

He is survived by three children: Larry J. Mitchell of Pinnacle, Steve (Connie) Mitchell of Apex and Chris (Rhonda) Mitchell of Winston-Salem, five grandchildren: Kari (Shane) Hundley, Drew, Matthew, Paul and Chad (Amanda) Mitchell; two great-grandchildren, Colby and Riley Mitchell; three sisters, Alma Wagoner and Frankie Wright of Asheboro and Kathlene Tedder of Quaker Gap; one brother, John W. Mitchell of Danbury; and many nieces and nephews.

Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Raymond Shelton; brother, Joe Edward (Polly) Bullins; sister, Hester Mae (Berkley) Southern; and several special nieces and nephews.

A John Redmon signed for a bond for George & John Jackson to administer the estate of their father, Samuel Jackson in Prince William County, Virginia in 1786. Does anyone know in what way John Redmon is connected to these Jacksons that he would risk his money on their integrity?

James Greenstad also shared in the bond. Samuel's will was witnessed by Benjamin Mattison, Thomas Mattison and Isaac Murphy.

KING - Mr. James Harvey Hall, age 86, of King, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, November 6, 2009 at Mountain View Medical Center.

Mr. Hall was born in Stokes County on December 28, 1922 to the late Roy Hall and Joe Piney Cox.

Harvey was a retired farmer and plumber and attended Friendship Baptist Church when he was able. He loved playing Rook, watching old westerns, listening to gospel music and helping others. As well as during his younger years, he was a member of CC Camp for 3 years. He was a special man who touched the hearts of all that he met. He was a beloved Husband, Father, Brother, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather.

Mr. Hall. is survived by his wife of 37 years, Ethel F. Hall of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Larry (Michelle) Hall; two daughters and sons-in-law, Joan (Bill) Epperson, Betty Bennett and friend, Tommy Anderson; one step-daughter, Jennie (Bobby) Hall; one half-brother, James "Dink" Cox; grandchildren, Tammy Nicholson, Larry Hall Jr., James Hall, Timmy (Roxy) Epperson, Angie Keith, Randy (Christy) Bennett, Melissa (Jeff) Tucker; step-grandchildren, Richard (Tara) Hall, Kim (Mike) Stowe; great-grandchildren, Taylor Nicholson, Tim Epperson Jr., Erica and Bethany Keith, Briana and Zack Bennett, Kirstin and Katelyn Tucker; step-great-grandchildren, Waylon and TJ Stowe, Dessy and Braxston Hall.

WALKERTOWN - Mr. Luther Alton Cox, 83, of Walkertown, passed away Friday, November 06, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center.

Mr. Cox was born in Stokes County to George Elmer and Hattie Lynch Cox on February 16, 1926.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II, and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. Mr. Cox retired from Pilot Freight Carriers with 35 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sue Johnson Cox; a grandson, Cody Cox; two brothers, Joe Bill Cox and Paul Cox; and sister, Betty Lou Martin.

Mr. Cox is survived by two daughters, Monteese Webb and husband, Stan of Lexington and Denise Williams-Waddell and husband, Michael of Walkertown; a son, Alton Van Cox of Walkertown; two step-children, Cathy S. Crosby of Stanley and William Chris Shore of Winston-Salem; two sisters, Lois Nunn of Westfield and Nelma White of Madison; and a brother, Gene Gwyn of Pilot Mountain.

PILOT MOUNTAIN - Harold Louis Moser, age 70 of Pilot Mountain passed away on Monday, November 9, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center.

Mr. Moser was born in Stokes County on April 4, 1939 to the late Brady and Mildred Lane Moser.

Mr. Moser worked for Hennis Freight Lines and retired from Consolidated Freight. Harold was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friends to all who knew him. Mr. Moser was an active member of Rescue Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, Sunday school superintendent and Choir director. He was a retired member of the Pilot Knob Volunteer Fire Department.

Mr. Moser is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Divers Branch Moser of the home; one daughter and son-in-law, Terri and Darrell Parker, of Pilot Mountain; one son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Jennifer Moser of Lexington; four grandchildren, Joshua Moser, Kelly Moser, Jesica Parker and Jake Parker; four sisters and brothers-in-law, Evelyn Truelove of Laurinburg, NC, Francis and Bud Glascoe of High Point, Betty Jean and John Foorman of Ludington, MI and Sandra and David Bobst of Columbus, Ohio.

Mr. Moser was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Truman, Junior and Billy Ray Moser and one sister, Bonita Holland.

MT. GILEAD — Avis Nelson Craven 75, of Mt. Gilead, died Tuesday Morning, Nov. 10, 2009, at Moore Regional Medical Center in Pinehurst.

Memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday, at First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Gilead, with the Rev. Lelia Evans officiating. Burial will be in Sharon Cemetery.

She was a native of Stokes County, was a textile retiree and a member of First Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are husband, Bobby Gene Craven of the home; daughter, Deborah Craven Thompson of Mt. Gilead; sons, Lewis Howard Craven of Mt. Gilead and Robert Todd Craven of Oakboro; one brother, William Nelson of Rockingham; four sisters, Ruth Hall of Rockingham, Peggy Hammond of Cordova, Jennie Troxler of Ellerbe and Carolyn Greene of Pekin; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Alvin Rexneal Pell Sr Obit

HIGH POINT - Alvin Rexneal "Rex" Pell, Sr. age 88, a former resident of Pine Circle Drive died Wednesday, November 11th at Westwood Health and Rehabilitation Center in Archdale.

Born May 21, 1921 in Stokes County, Mr. Pell was a son of the late James S. and Lilly Lawson Pell.

He had been a resident of High Point most of his life and was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. A Veteran of World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in Central Europe during the Rhineland campaign and was awarded a Purple Heart, American Theater Victory Medal and a Campaign Medal with two Bronze service Stars. For thirty five years, he was employed at Burlington Hosiery as a machine fixer. Following Burlington's closing of the High Point Mill, Rex worked at Tex-Elastic and Mac Panel, where he retired at the age of 74.

On March 9, 1946, he married Martha L. Waller, who died December 9, 2002.

Rex is survived by two children, Yvonne Martin of High Point and Alvin R. Pell, Jr. and his wife, Sherry of Kernersville; three grandchildren, William Alan Rice of Lynchburg, VA, Suzanne R. Martinson and her husband, Greg of Angier and Renee R. Steed of Clemmons; and seven great-grandchildren, Josh, Vanessa, Jacob, William, Taylor, Amanda and Michael.

Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Woodlawn Baptist Church with the Rev. John Wheeles and the Rev. Pat Ray officiating. Burial, with military Honors, will be in Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery. KING - Mr. Charles "Chuck" Jennings McCloud, 47, died Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at WFU Baptist Medical Center.

He was born August 2, 1962 in Baltimore, MD to Fred and Vivian Smith McCloud.

He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army. Chuck worked with the CPI Concrete Company in South Carolina, and enjoyed fishing for carp. He was formerly a member of Communion of His Spirit Fellowship in Germanton, and recently, often attended The Rock Church in King.

He was preceded in death by his mother.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his wife of thirteen years, Deborah "Debbie" Anderson McCloud; four children, Malinda (Ricky) Henshaw, Tina McCloud, Angie Priddy, and Gary Priddy, all of King; a sister, Loretta (Joseph) Martin; two brothers, Stephen (Denise) McCloud, and James McCloud, all of Belews Creek; five grandchildren, Gabrielle, Annabelle, Austin, Hadassah, and Chloe; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews.

The 2 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2009 at Burroughs Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Harry Wood officiating. Entombment will follow in the Gardens of Memory Mausoleum. The family will receive friends Saturday from noon until time for the service at the funeral home.

KING - Mr. Pat Leon Moore, 82, died peacefully at his home surrounded by family on Tuesday, November 10, 2009. Pat was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend to all who knew him.

He was born December 27, 1926 in Stokes County to Marvin Spencer and Myrtle Ellen Hutchins Moore.

He served with the U. S. Navy during WWII and was a member of American Legion Post 290 in King. He had also served as President of the King Little League for over 20 years. Pat retired from R. J. Reynolds Tobacco Company in 1983 after 35 years of service.

Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Kathryn Joyner Moore; five children, Marilyn (Donnie) McHone of King, Keith (Sandy) Moore of King, Joan Prevette and friend, Kerry Meadows of King, Lisa (Sanford) Jarvis of Winston-Salem, and Darrell Moore of King; eight grandchildren, Bradley Bruner, Dana Moore, Bridget Bruner, Josh Moore, Jacob Moore, Samson Jarvis, Courtney Vera, and Audrey Dix; seven great grandchildren; one sister, Frances Moore Taylor of King; mother-in-law, Nellie Long Joyner.

RURAL HALL - Mrs. Lena Clara Rogers King passed away Monday, November 16, 2009 at Forsyth Medical Center.

She was born August 25, 1913 in Stokes County, to the late George Armstrong Rogers and Rozila Ella Johnson Rogers.

Mrs. King was a member of Woodland Baptist Church. She enjoyed cooking, flowers and gardening. Mrs. King never met a stranger and loved family gatherings. Her sense of humor and wit will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. King was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas William King; one daughter, Nancy Ella King; one son, Thomas Delmar King; two step-sons, Howard and Bernie King; three sisters; and five brothers.

Surviving are one daughter, Ginny Long of Winston-Salem; one son, Chuck King (Gilda) of Advance; six grandchildren, Denise Bowman (Keith), Donna Sechrist (Garland), Debbie Craig, Deanne King, Tim Marion (Monica), and Jason Sutphin; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and daughter-in-law, Beulah King of Winston-Salem.

A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 noon on Wednesday, November 18, at Woodland Baptist Church, with Pastor Tim Gammons and Pastor Vic Pyle officiating. Burial will follow at Crestview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. Richard Wilson, 71, resident of Sophia, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at his residence.

He was born May 14, 1938 in Stokes County, a son of the late Jesse Reid Wilson and Cora Wilson.

He was a resident of High Point most of his life and was an active member and deacon of Full Gospel Miracle Ministries. He loved his church family dearly and is waiting to greet them on the other side. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, John D Wilson, Henry Wilson, Gilmer Wilson, Andrew Wilson and sisters Louise Williard & Edith Rodgers.

Richard is survived by his wife Cora Lilla Wilson of the home. They have been married 51 years. In addition to his loving wife he is survived by his four children. Sons Ricky Wilson and his wife Tammy of Archdale, NC and Jimmy Wilson and his wife Kristie of Thomasville, NC. Daughters Lynn Wilson Merryman and her husband Floyd of Altavista, VA and Amy Wilson Gunter of Randleman, NC.
Richard was blessed with a loving family that includes his grandchildren Ricky, Michael, JR, Bryon, Jesse, Heather, Andrew, Lee, Lauren, & Dylan. Great-grandchildren Alissa, Will, Logan, Braden, Aiden and Nalani. Surviving siblings are Mary Jones of King, NC and Elbert Wilson of Walnut Cove, NC. Richard had a special dog, Libby, that stayed by his side throughout his illness.

Richard was a truck driver for most of his life, driving for Colonial Motor Lines, Food World and retiring from Piedmont Chemical. He made lasting friendships everywhere he went.
Richard was also an ordained minister who served the Lord throughout his life. He often stated "The Lord gave me my first breath and I'll give him my last". He fought a courageous battle with cancer for the last 12 years before succombing to the fatal disease. He has left behind a legacy for his family and friends.

A special Thank You goes out to Dr Sanders and Kelly as well as other staff at the High Point Cancer Center for all the Love and support given to Richard and his family over the past 12 years
He was our angel on earth and will now look down on us from heaven.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Saturday at the chapel of Cumby Family Funeral Service in Archdale, officiated by Reverend Stanley Savage. Interment will follow in Randolph Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

She was retired from Tultex with 28 years of service. Mrs. Joyce enjoyed many things in life, such as mowing her yard, reading, going out for breakfast, her Sunday School Class and spending time with her granddaughter and great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Ruth Shore; four brothers, Jay Kington, Archie Kington, Eugene Kington, and Paul Kington; a son, Donald Lee Joyce; and her husband of 34 years, Johnny Jackson "Jack" Joyce.

Mr. Woods was born in Stokes County on April 18, 1923, to the late Rual Clinton Woods and Minnie Dell Robertson Woods.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served during World War II, and attended Oasis Baptist Church. Mr. Woods loved the outdoors, especially gardening and tractors. He enjoyed playing cards, pitching horse shoes, collecting arrowheads, and family pictures.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Edith Bullins; four brothers, Eldridge Woods, Leonard Woods, William H. Woods, and Thomas Earl Woods; two children, Timothy Mark Woods and Rual Wade Woods; and his wife of 61 years, Margaret Smith Woods.

He is survived by four children, Linder Woods Hayden (Roy) of Madison, Ronnie Mathew Woods (Kay) of Jacksonville, Fla., Wade Clinton Woods (Dianne) of Stoneville, and Rudy Dean Woods (Teresa) of Madison; four sisters, Mary Ruth Bowman of Walnut Cove, Lila Snyder of Madison, Louise Gibson of Greensboro, and Mildred Mabe of Madison; eight grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren.

Rickey was born June 21, 1954 in Guilford County to the late B.H. Stanley and Frances Jessup Stanley.

He moved to Stokes County in 2006. Rickey will leave a lasting impression of love and happiness. He was a true Tar Heel fan, loved his magazines, eating breakfast at Fuzzy's and watching cowboy movies. He loved going to Morehead Church in Greensboro.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two nephews, Rod Stanley and J.D.; and one niece Angela Stanley Long.

Family left to cherish his memory; caregiver and sister Laura Belle Stanley, sister Reba Stanley Gibson, both of Sandy Ridge; brothers, John B. Stanley (Jean) of Pine Hall, Bobby D. He was a U.S. Army World War II Veteran serving with the 69th Infantry Division and received the purple heart. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled Veterans of America. He was owner of Priddy's Motors for many years. He enjoyed rebuilding cars, showing Tennessee walking horses, motorcycling, traveling, and music. He was a member and deacon of Oak Ridge Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Smith and Truman Priddy.

DANBURY - Percy Richard Fulk, age 85, of Danbury passed away on Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at Stokes Reynolds Memorial Hospital.

Mr. Fulk was born in Stokes County on December 30, 1923 to the late James and Maude Booth Fulk.

Percy worked as a truck driver for the NC DOT Department and was of the Baptist faith.

Mr. Fulk. is survived by one son, Roger Dale Fulk of Danbury; one brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Irene Fulk of Danbury.

Mr. Fulk was preceded in death by his parents and his loving wife Mary Brown Fulk; four brothers and one sister.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at the Cox-Needham Chapel in Danbury, with Rev. Mike Sands and Rev. Mervin Garrison officiating with interment to follow in the Cedar Falls Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. She was born in Japan to the late Masaichi and Hisa Mizumura.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Gunter was preceded in death by her husband, Ivan W. Gunter.

She was retired from Bassett-Walker Industries with 23 years of service.

Mrs. Gunter is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Louise and Tim Priddy of Danbury, North Carolina; one son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Debbie Gunter of Bassett; two grandchildren, Kristen Priddy and Bria Priddy; two brothers, Hiroshi Mizumura, Aichan Mizumura; and one sister, Tomoko Mizumura all of Japan.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gunter will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Moody Funeral Home in Stuart with Elder Milton Gunter officiating. WALNUT COVE — Mr. Marvin Reed Kendrick Sr., 85, died Monday, November 16, 2009, at Forsyth Medical Center.

He was born in Patrick county, Virginia, to Charlie Reid and Minnice Pearl Stone Kendrick.

He served his country proudly in the U.S. Army. He was a weaver with Carter Fabric and was later the owner and operator of Hope Rug Company. A member of Stokesdale Baptist Church, he was a good- hearted man who enjoyed dancing, and he was a "trip".

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Laura Lucille W. Kendrick; a sister, Nellie Hammock; and four brothers, Willie, Herbert, David, and Robert Kendrick.

He is survived by his wife, Cleo Bullins Brim Kendrick; three children, Virginia Kendrick (Jimmy) Rogers of Greensboro, Marvin Reed (Linda) Kendrick Jr. of Reidsville, and Anita Kendrick Staton of Summerfield; four sisters, Ersley Smith of Yanceyville, Olean Mosley of Eden, Gladys (Thomas) Lawrence of Ruffin, and Adean (Harold) Harris of Reidsville; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, November 18, at Stokesdale Baptist Church with Rev. Carl Brown officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Tuesday, November 17, at Burroughs Funeral Home.

She was born in Forsyth County to Hassell Gray and Betty Stephens Tuttle.

She retired from Wachovia after 27 years of service as a Group Leader/ Supervisor. She was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. Jackie loved to shop, going to the beach and Carolina basketball. Her grandkids were the love of her life and she loved to attend their sports activities, never missing a game.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband of 36 years; Michael Hugh Kiser, two children; Justin Shawn (Rebecca) Kiser of Walnut Cove and Heather Michelle Kiser of Walkertown, one sister; Kathy (Richard) Bowden of King, one brother; Keith (Christie) Tuttle of Germanton, two grandchildren; William Michael Kiser and Riley Paige Kiser, two aunts; Lettie Ruth Smith of Germanton and Rachel (Joe) Oakley of Walkertown, two nephews; Joshua Bowden and Zack Tuttle, special friends; Deborah Harris and Brenda Holbrook.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m., tonight, November 19, 2009 at Burroughs Funeral Home. A celebration of Jackie's life will follow at 7:30 p.m. with Rev. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William "Willie" Doss and two brothers, Curtis and Denzil Shelton.

Survivors include son, Marty (Amy Michele) Doss of Mt. Your Joseph Vaughn father of Josephine where was he born and to whom? Was his mother and fathers names James and Olivia Vaughn(Wall)? Did they live in Stokes county in the 1890s? I have a Joseph Vaughn who was my grandmothers brother and am searching for connections and where they ended up and where they are buried. They did live in Stokes county until their father James died in 1895 and in 1896 (olivia and children were in the poor house at this time) two of their children(Charles Luther/Nannie Lee) were put into the childrens home in Thomasville, NC. There Charles L. died in 1898 and Nannie did move back with Olivia eventually. Olivia moved with the two youngest children (Joseph/Louisie) to the Salem Chapel Township in NC. Minnie retired from Hooker Furniture after 30 plus years of service and was a former member of the Piney Grove Rescue Squad.
