Virginia Hooker Dews, 69, of 1504 Rivermont Heights, Martinsville, died Saturday, Oct. 31, 2009, at Wake Forest University Medical Center, Winston-Salem, N.C.

She was born on Sept. 18, 1940, in Stokes County, N.C., to Samuel Hooker and Josie Hudson Hooker.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Hooker, June Hooker and Lib Doss; and two brothers, Elbert Hooker and S. A. Hooker.

She was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are a daughter, Teresa Kirby of the home; one son, Georgell Kirby Jr. of Lititz, Pa.; two brothers, Edward Hooker of Westfield, N.C., and Alden Hooker of Martinsville; and four grandchildren.

The funeral will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Norris Funeral Services Chapel with Pastor Reggie Steele officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.
The family will receive friends at Norris Funeral Services on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. and at other times at the home.
