My uncle, Lawrence Horatio Gordon 1919-1988, was, postwar, a merchant seaman working on the Cunard Lines' Queen Elizabeth Southampton/New York run for many years.
Ancestry has just supplied me with the following hints about him but I am unable to unlock the information.

I know that, as a ship's caterer, he was required to "stop over" in New York
frequently and assume from the above hints that he took out or applied to take out US residency/citizenship.
