I am looking for information on my father's family. I have been able to find information that has led me to my gg grandfather, David A. Bishop, b. 1823, Ulster Co. He married Sarah Elizabeth Bevier, 4 September 1845, in Sugar Loaf Hollow, near Grahamsville, Sullivan Co. in the Reformed Dutch Church. They appear in the US Census for 1850 in Rockland, Sullivan Co., in 1860 in Neversink, Sullivan Co, and Sarah E., as head of household in Denning, Ulster Co. in 1870, after David A.'s death in the Civil War. They had seven children, Conrad, b.1846, Mary E., b. 1847, Jacob, B. 1850, David J.,(my g grandfather) b. Apr 1854, Asa, b. 1857, Alonzo, b. 1858, and Harvey, b. 1863.
David A. and his eldest son, Conrad, enlisted in the NY 156th Infantry Regiment, Co. D, on 27 August 1862, in Wawarsing, Ulster Co. David A. Died 22 August 1863, in Baton Rouge, LA, and Conrad was dicharged 6 November 1863, with a disability to the left arm due to a shotgun wound rendering it usless for combat. I believe David A. may be the son of James Bishop, who, I believe is an heir of Asa Bishop of Olive/Marbletown.
I am also looking for information on his wife, Sarah E. Bevier. I believe she was b. approx. 1826 and may be the daughter of Johannes B. Bevier and Nancy ???? as listed in the Bevier Family Genealogy by Dale BeVier.
I would like to be able to confirm the links between James and David Bishop and Sarah and Johannes B. Bevier. I have run in to a wall that spans approximately the period between 1800 and 1850, and need help establishing these connections. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
