I am researching the family of Christopher MENTZ.who settled in Ulster County. The family in later years spelled the name MANCE. Their settlement originally known as Manceville-is now Cragsmoor. Have a great deal of information to exchange. Family members also resided in Wawarsing, Ellenville and Shawangunk.

Mentz etc.

The Shawangunk Dutch Reformed Church Records contain many Mentz etc. names beginning with a baptism of Jacob son of Christoffle Mentz & Margritt Grunnenwalden in 1762.

Does anyone know when they changed their name to Mance? I cannot make a connection for my ancestor born in 1794, who moved to Canada after war of 1812. Maybe his family change their name

Have you come across any of the Family that used the spelling Mintz. I am looking for a Captain John Mintz born 1783 who moved to Wyalusing around 1800 or Isaac Mintz born 1794 who moved to Canada after the War of 1812. Any leads that you can give me would be apreciated.

The Christopher Mance from my family tree was born 1730 and died 1817 in Wawarsing, NY. He is my ggggg grandfather.
Line of descent: Christopher/John/Jacob/James/Albert/James Edgar/and then my Mother, (Bessie) Adelaide Mance.

Have information on the whole family and willing to share if this is also your family.

Well, looks like we're cousins!
My line is Christopher/John/Jacob/Joseph/Joseph Smith (known just as Smith)/George/Robert/Willard/Jane (my mom).

I still live in Ulster County and have been to the old Manceville cemetery, or at least what was left of it in the early 1990's. Mostly hand carved slate stones. Christoffel had a wooden cross which I think has since disappeared.

I have also visited the Manceville Cemetery although I do not now live in the area. Most of my research has come from nearby repositories as well as Family History Centers (Latter Day Saints). Also, found another researcher who shared her information with me.

My Mother was born in Ulster County and I was born in Walden.

Is there anything I can help you with?
