Does anyone have marriage records for the Helderberg Ref. Church in Guilderland? I'm trying to verify the marriage of John F. Martin to Eliza Hungerford, 1851.

I believe Eliza is Eliza Magdelena Hungerford, daughter of Charles & Mary (Winne) Hungerford. The church record: Reference FHL #0017678, Church records for Gelderland (pp. 1-22), Helderberg (pp. 23-186), and Princetown (187-.) Page 241 has the following marriage: 1851, (the marriage prior to this one is 29 Oct 1851--they seem sequential) John Marten of Guilderland to Eliza Hungerford. This is the only Eliza in Albany county in the 1850 census and she isn't listed with her family in the 1855 state census--so I'm guessing it is this Eliza...

Richard, I don't believe that is correct. My records show that Eliza Magdaline Hungerford md. Spencer Strevell on May 4, 1850. Unfortunately I do not have the source. But, in the 1850 census, even though both are living at home with their respective parents, both say they were married withing the year. In the 1860 census the wife of Spencer is Magdalen. In the 1870 census, the his wife is Eliza. Which seems to confirm she was Eliza Magdaline.

Thanks for your help. This is very confusing: John F. Martin and his 2nd wife had children bp. Helderberg Ref. Ch., and those records give the mother's name as Eliza Ann Wormer, not Hungerford, dispite the confusing marriage record in that church of 29 Oct 1851. I have not been able to pin down such a person in the 1850 Census - the closest I can come is an Eliza Ann Warner, of Knox, b. ca 1816, dau. of Peter M. Warner & Margaret Ball. The 1850 Census also shows a Joseph Wormer, 14, in the household of Stephen & Hannah Hungerford in Knox - evidently the parents of William Henry Hungerford who was bp. 6 Oct 1850, 2nd Ref. Church, Berne, d. 3 Jun 1852, bur. Lake Rural Cem. in Berne.

Eliza Ann Martin was appointed the guardian for minor William Hungerford 27 Dec 1851, Schenectady; the 1860 Census lists with John & Eliza Ann, a William Martin, b. ca 1850, but I find no further record of him and suspect he was that William Hungerford.

A William Hungerford was executor for John F. Martin's will probated 17 Sep 1894, Schenectady.
