Hi Linda,

My g.g.g.g.g. grandfather's name was John Aernhout. According to the records that I have, he served in the Albany militia during the Revolutionary War. He is also listed as Jacob.

Can you supply more info - wife, or other family members or descendants. I have several Arnold, Arnout, Ornout, Ernhoud, etc. Also a more precise time frame.

I have 15 John/Johannes ranging from 1739 to 1824 in Albany County and 14 Jacob's from circa 1700 thru 1802. The earliest Arnout, etc was Jacob circa 1700.

The Ernhout family that I am working on originated from a John(could have been Johannes) Ernhout who was a native of Germany emigrated to America with Corn. Van Rensselaer and was one of the first settlers in Albany area he served as a private in revolutionary war his wife was a native of Holland he had 13 children - Christopher(born in Albany) is the son from which our family evolves - most of the information I have comes from his son John I believe that originally the name was spelled with an A Arnhout - Christopher and some of his family moved to Ulster Co NY(early 1800,s) and later to Sullivan Co NY - 1840,s
