Can anyone help me find Lodusca Darthula Frances Ingle Norris? I have her parents and siblings and on back but my problem is her husband, John Bryd Norris. We were told that when he died she moved in with a brother of his and had 8 more children with her Brother in law (Norris) I can not find any info to prove that nor can I find her in the 1870,1880,1900 census. I need this info because her child George Washington Norris, is listed as the son of John Bryd Norris but John Died in 1863 and George Washington Norris was not born untill 1876. I would be Greatful for any help. Theylived in Walker county Alabama as far as I can find them.

Thanks Diana Goodwin

Census records for Dorn Patton (not called John) and some comments

I'm glad someone is interested in clarifying information concerning Dorn Patton! Here are the census records I've seen for him. Note he is not called John in any of these records, or in any other public record of which I'm aware. I have not yet been able to find him in the 1810 or 1820 census (see comments about this below).

1830 Fayette Co. AL, p. 196, line 4: Dorron Patton 0000001-21101; prev. 3 are line 1: Wm. Rogers 10001-0001; line 2: Andrew Patton 20001-1101; line 3: Richard Rogers 00001-0001

1840 Itawamba Co. MS, p. 155: Dorron Patton 10000001-0220001-0, same pg. as John Beachum

1850 Itawamba Co. MS, dist. 7, no. 517: Dorn Patton 64 NC $3000, Sarah 50 VA, Martha 18 AL, Dorin 16 AL, Rucilla 7 MS (Drucilla)

1860 Itawamba Co. MS, Ryans Well PO, no. 1435: Dorn Patton 74 (76?) NC $8000 $24750, Sarah 64 VA, Luzila? 17 f MS (probably Drucilla, who was 7 in 1850); no. 1436 is Dorn Jr. 25 AL living alone, no. 1437 is Prudence (Patton) Williams & ch., a dau. of John Patton and Eliz. Beene

1870 - not listed; Dorn d. in 1864 (probably in MS, but no grave has been located) and his widow Sarah apparently d. 1868 in TX, where some of Dorn's ch. lived.

Note that none of the census records for Dorn Patton which name him with any of his children (i.e., 1850 and 1860) identify Dorn as "John Dorr Patton".

About 1810 and 1820...the most likely place to find Dorn in the 1810 census would be TN. He was apparently living in Williamson Co. TN 14 Apr 1808 when as Dornton Patton he was the bondsman for the mar. of Ezekiah McCarley and Margaret Langston (were they nephew and niece of Dorn?); then his dau. Eliza by his 1st wife was born ca. 1813 in TN, and a D. Patton from West TN signed an 1813 petition to move the Rutherford county seat from Jefferson to Murfreesboro. Unfortunately, the entire census of TN was destroyed, with the exception of Rutherford Co. and a portion of Grainger Co. There are no Pattons in Rutherford Co. in 1810 {although there is a John McRarry (McCrary?): 00201-22 no slaves and next to him Alexander Orr 2011-1001; several pages later there is a John Langston 201-001 no slaves; McCrary, Orr, and Langston families are all related to Patton, but I have not identified these 3 particular individuals}. I have not looked at the 1810 fragment of Grainger Co.

As to the 1820 census - Dorn was in TN 1817 and then AL by 1821, so might be in either TN or AL, or someplace else; the only "D" Patton in 1820 census of TN was David Patton - but perhaps this was really Dorn, misread as David (I have not inspected the original); note some other Pattons etc. from 1820 census of TN:
- Williamson Co.: Tristram 410001-1001-3 agr, 1 mfg-3200-11 (no other Patton in this co.)
- Rutherford Co.: ? (haven't inspected)
- Bedford Co.: Patton - James (3), James E., John (3), Samuel, Wm. (2); also John McCrary 20001-3101, no slaves. I mention McCrary here, because I am mindful of names similar to McCrary/McCreary and McCarley, two different surnames which I think can be confused with one another, especially considering the poor spelling often found in early 1800's records. The McCreary family lived around Ryan's Well, and a Sarah Ann McCreary mar. John Patton Jr., son of John Patton (d. 1833, son of Dorn) and Sarah Langston. McCarley is connected to Patton through two sisters of Dorn Patton, Elizabeth who mar. John McCarley, and Margaret who mar. Thomas McCarley.

There is a Bedford Co. TN petition dated 1822 or 1825 signed by a D. Patton (other names of interest who signed it were Jos. Patton (2), Saml. Patton, Jesse Allen, Rabise Allen, and Jos. Dyer), so it is possible that Dorn lived near the TN-AL border - in these early years some county boundaries along the TN-AL-MS border were not well-defined, perhaps even disputed, so that pertinent records may show up in several places.

The previous post mentioned a "John Dorr Patton" seen in the census which matched Dorn (what year?). So far I have not seen the name John Dorr Patton in any original records. As the post pointed out, there are many Pattons alive at this time. Phonetically speaking, one possibility here is a John Dyer Patton (b. 28 Jan 1781 Baltimore, MD, d. ca. 1825 KY), possibly a first cousin of Dorn Patton's (if Dorn's father is Robert Patton d. 1813 in Lincoln Co. TN, as the records of Lincoln Co. TN seem to support, and if Robert's father is Matthew Patton b. ca. 1740 and Esther Dyer, which seems likely although Robert is not named in Matthew's will or otherwise identified in records associated with Matthew). I have noted the possible father-son relationship between Matthew and Robert, but have found no proof of it; I think that many people named Matthew and Robert need to be studied in detail before this possible relationship can be any more than the subject of a footnote.

Many of the Patton family trees on various FTM/Broderbund CD's are based on the extensive article on the Patton family printed in "Genealogy of Kentucky Families", v. II, p. 4 ff., which is reproduced on FTM CD 185. This article does not mention Dorn Patton, nor does it list a Robert Patton as a son of Matthew Patton and Esther Dyer, although the lists of Matthew's other children and grandchildren appear to be relatively complete. This Matthew Patton's will of 2 My 1803 in Clark Co. KY mentions the following: beloved wife, all my ch. (not named), sons Matthew Jr., Roger, Wm.; exctrs sons Matthew Jr., Roger, Wm.; wit. Richard A. ?, Thomas Goff, Wm. Black; codicil 3 May 1803 mentions dau. Sarah and her 4 ch., wit. James Crockett, Thomas Goff, Wm. Black. The parentage of Robert Patton is a murky subject, and there are a number of Robert Pattons in original records who might be the same person. The NC birthplace of Dorn Patton and other indications that his family was in NC before 1800 has suggested to some that he might be part of a Patton branch from PA. Some researchers suggest he is brother to John PATTON, blacksmith (will 1800 Rowan Co. NC), since Robert may have res. near this John PATTON (blacksmith); Robert Patton may have been the uncle of Joseph PATTON (RW pension appl. file S3632), who deposed 13 Oct 1832 Morgan Co. TN that during the RW he had helped his uncle Robert, brother of his father, who did blacksmith work under contract with the army.

I'm happy to try to help shed more light on Dorn Patton, and hope that this dialogue will prompt someone to put forth some additional proof concerning these names relationships.

I want to talk to you in a big way! But to start out I will tell you that I saw the name John Dorr Patton on Federal Census tapes while looking for my Great Grandfather. I looked under this name and matched the names of his children phonetically with a copy of his last Will which I have in my possession. These were the correct children and it did state that his name was "JOHN DORR PATTON". I have family tree cds that list over 5,000 Dorringtons in North Carolina in the 1700s. I have enough written information to show that Dorrington was listed as Doran, Dorr, Dorn, Dorren and other ways. I am very sure that Dorr is shortened for Dorrington. I am very sure that Dorn is shortened for Dorrington. I am very aware of John Patton's family with Elizabeth Beene. I am very aware that all of the history and proof that is missing is somewhere in Franklin Co, TN. I believe that Robert Waller Patton (I got this Waller from some researcher that was doing his son Robert and called the son Robert Waller Patton Jr) was living in the same house when his daughters married in NC in the 1790s and still living there when he died - 1813 - Lincoln Co, TN. I believe that this house was a stone's throw from the house of his son Dorn Sr. Now back to Franklin Co. In the early 1800s in Franklin Co., I have Dorn Sr and his 1st wife, Eliza, John & Elizabeth Beene, Many Beenes, Many Dorringtons, the future wife of Dorn - Sarah Spaulding Ryan with husband and young son and is pregnant with a son that wrote a scathing report of his Father in Law Dorn Patton, I also have John's dau Eliza (also born in 1817) and her future husband Sims Kelly. So all of the players were there in one county - .

I am copying some old info that should tell you where, I am sure, John Dorrington Patton Sr is buried. "I had a lengthy conversation with a Mr. Ben Patton of Fulton, MS., and he is a direct descendant of this John (1787VA) and Elizabeth Beene union. By the way, he is also the one that found and marked the graves of John Patton (1787VA) and Elizabeth Beene Patton. Now, we have a report from the DAR that they found and marked the grave of John Patton m.Beene somewhere in TN. I now am ready to state that they found and marked the grave of Dorn Sr. Dorn Sr., took trips back to Franklin Co., to check on old friends and family. He also would be checking on John’s family who stayed in Franklin Co. We have spent considerable time trying to find the grave of Dorn Sr., but to no avail. So now I know that he is in that grave marked John Patton near Franklin Co (or at least on the way from Dorn’s home in MS toward Franklin Co.) Especially since Ben is sure that John and Elizabeth are buried in Fulton Co., MS. I don’t believe I left this Mr. Patton with any kind thoughts about me and my researching abilities. I tried very hard to convince him that he had found the graves of my John Dorrington and further tried to convince him that Elizabeth Beene was the wife of our Dorn – not his John. I hope to get back there someday and try to apologize. Anyway, Ben, your John was in Franklin Co, TN in 1817 and later ended up in the grave where you found him in Ittawamba Co, very near John Dorrington Pattton Sr’s last home.

No proof that "John Dorrington Patton" exists

While searching for other data recently, I've noticed a number of websites and posts which mention the name "John Dorrington Patton" - I think perhaps it’s time to shed some light on this fictitious person. Hopefully, people who have JDP in their databases will review these comments and correct their data accordingly, if they see fit.
"John Dorrington Patton" is an erroneous combination of 2 different people, either Dorn Patton (mar. Sarah Spaulding, his second wife) and John Patton (mar. Elizabeth Beene), or Dorn Patton and his brother John Patton (mar. Sarah Langston). Since I happened to run across Don Pate's 2004 post concerning JDP, I'll just reply to it and provide some explanatory notes here. I hope that people who have added JDP to their family trees in the past are not offended by this "new" information (which has always been available to researchers, but apparently not known to some). Harvesting data from the internet without checking its accuracy can lead to difficulties such as this; I am reminded that the three most important words in genealogy are verify, verify, and verify.

1. Notes concerning John Patton b. ca. 1787 in VA or TN, d. bef. Dec 1863 probably in Itawamba Co. MS, who mar. Elizabeth Beene, dau. of Robert Beene and Martha Womack.

Some sources call this person John Dorrington Patton b. 14 Jul 1786, d. 3 Apr 1864 - this is a major error; "John Dorrington Patton" never existed - rather two different men, John Patton and Dorn Patton, have been erroneously combined into one fictitious person; additional points:

(1) there is no proof that Dorrington was the middle name of John Patton b. 1787, and in fact there is no known proof that he had a middle name or initial of any sort
(2) John Patton b. 1787 did not die 3 Apr 1864 - he died before Dec 1863 when William Patton (presumably his son) petitioned for ltrs. of adm. on John’s estate; chancery court records in Itawamba Co. MS clearly state that John Patton was deceased at this time; it was Dorn Patton (a different person) who d. 3 Apr 1864 (or 3 May 1864)
(3) John Patton b. 1787 is not the same person as Dorn Patton, as proven by the 1840, 1850, and 1860 censuses of Itawamba Co. MS, all 3 of which list both John and Dorn.

1840 census
- p. 155: Dorron Patton 10000001-0220001-0, which I parse as follows: 1(Dorn Jr.)0000001(Dorn)-02(Sarah Ann, Martha)2(Mary Ann, Caroline)0001(Sarah)
- p. ?: John Patton: 0020101-0000201-02-01, which I parse as follows: 002(John Jr., Benjamin)01(William)01(John)-00002(Isabel?, Eliza)01(Elizabeth) plus slaves; however, it is also possible that some in this census may be spouses of John’s ch. rather than his own ch.; note this is NOT the John Patton who was a brother of Dorn Patton - Dorn Patton's bro. John died 1833 in Alabama, as proved by several records court and pension application records
- p. 157: Sarah Patton 002-00011001 (Sarah Langston, widow of John Patton, brother of Dorn)

1850 census
- dist. 7, no. 517: Dorn Patton 64 farmer $3000 NC, Sarah 50 VA, Martha 18 AL, Dorin 16 farmer AL, Rucilla 7 MS (Drucilla)
- dist. 7, no. 507: John Patton 63 farmer $1700 VA, Elizabeth 61 GA, John 22 TN farmer, Rhoda 26 TN; no. 551 is Wm. Patton (son?) 32 TN, Margaret 28 AL, Tennessee 3 MS, John 1 MS
notes on no. 507:
(1) Rhoda age 26 is either wife of John age 22, or someone else (an older Rhoda Patton b. 1813, dau. of John Patton b. 1787, was already married to Noble Warren and listed as Rhody Warren in 1850 census); note no. 515 Jesse and Mary Williams have several adult ch., incl. a dau. Rhoda 26 b. TN - did John Patton Jr. mar. this Rhoda Williams about the time of the 1850 census, so that she was enumerated twice?)
(2) John's dau. Sarah (Patton) Womack is in Yalobusha Co. 1850 along with unk. James (James K.) Patton 38 TN and Leonora M. Patton 20 TN, both enum. with other fams., and Milton D. Patton 30 TN and wife Lavisa S. 22 MS (Milton O. Patton mar. Louisa L. Jones 16 Sep 1846 Yalo. Co. MS)
(3) no. 517 is Dorn Patton - perhaps John and Dorn are related
- dist. 6, no. 34: Sarah Patton 60 NC, John 23 AL, James 21 AL (Sarah Langston, widow of John Patton, brother of Dorn)

1860 census
- Ryans Well PO, no. 1435: Dorn Patton 74 (76?) NC $8000 $24750, Sarah 64 VA, Luzila? 17 f MS (Drucilla, who was 7 in 1850); no. 1436 is Dorn Jr. 25 AL living alone, no. 1437 is Prudence (Patton) Williams & ch.
- no. 1617: John Patton 73 TN farmer $2000 1700, Lucy 27 AL $11 1000?, Alanetta 4 MS, Benjamin 29 TN $600, Martha 22 MS (note Lucy is Lucy Ann Chilcoat, widow of John Patton Jr.; Martha is Martha Washington Moore)

(4) John Patton b. 1787 did not marry Sarah Spaulding - there is no marriage or census record which supports such a marriage; Sarah Spaulding was the wife of Dorn Patton and outlived him; Elizabeth (Beene) Patton, the wife of John Patton, was still alive in 1850 as John's wife, but predeceased him. However, Sarah (Langston) Patton, the widow of Dorn Patton's brother John, was living in Itawamba Co. in 1850 and may have been confused with Dorn's wife, also named Sarah; this may have misled some researchers into combining the families of Dorn and his brother John, and calling the head of this fictitious family "John Dorrington Patton"
(5) the parents of Mary, Sarah, Caroline, Martha, Dorn Jr., and Drucilla Patton (all 6 listed by some sources as children of "John Dorrington Patton" and all born before 1850) were Dorn and Sarah Patton, not John and Elizabeth Patton; this is proven by the 1850 census noted above, which enumerates both families; in addition, various deeds and court records prove the names and parents of the children of John Patton b. 1787 and the children of Dorn Patton, respectively. Some researchers may list the children of John Patton b. 1787 as children of Dorn, also an error.
(6) Dorn Patton Jr., the only son of Dorn Patton and Sarah Spaulding, was not named "John Dorrington Patton Jr."; there is no record which calls him John; also note that John Patton and Elizabeth Beene did not have a son named Dorn.
(7) although Dorn Patton is called Dorrington Patton in some service records associated with the War of 1812, he was not using the spellling Dorrington by the time he came to Itawamba Co. MS; there he is always called Dorn, sometimes spelled Doran/Dorran; Dorn is the only spelling used by his son and by other namesakes of his (e.g., Dorn Rogers)

2. Notes concerning Dorn Patton b. 4 Jul 1786 , d. 3 Apr (or 3 May?) 1864 Itawamba Co. MS, mar. Sarah Spaulding, whose surname has not been proven

a. His given name is also seen as Doran/Dorrington/Doranton/Dornton/etc.; it is Dorington on War of 1812 muster roll and payroll records (note there are instances of surname Dorrington in earlier records; e.g., Ann Chare [Cheair etc.?] d. 1655 mar. 1st Richard Dorrington in ENG, 2nd Robt. Throckmorton of VA); there is no proof that Dorn's first name was John (Dorn had a bro. John who died in 1833); it appears that some sources refer to Dorn as "John Dorrington Patton" and have mistakenly combined Dorn and his brother John Patton into a single fictitious person whose children include both Dorn's and his brother John's; apparently Dorn’s family has also been combined with the family of another John Patton (mar. Elizabeth Beene); such errors are widespread in internet records - any data which mentions the name "John Dorrington Patton" is suspect and probably contains numerous errors

Here is some data on these three families, as best as I have been able to define them.

1. Children of Dorn Patton and his 2 wives

Children of Dorn Patton and unidentified 1st wife; she apparently d. between 1817 and 1824 (only 1 ch. of this marriage has been identified [if indeed there was a marriage])
i. Eliza A. b. 13 Jan 1817, mar. 1835 or before in Walker Co. AL to John Strother Gaines

Children of Dorn Patton and 2nd wife Sarah Spaulding, the widow of Charles Ryan (her surname Spaulding has not been verified; she had 3 ch. by Charles Ryan, the last being Dr. Charles Ryan b. 22 Jan 1822, the date on his tombstone)

ii. Mary Ann b. 22 Dec 1824, d. 8 Jun 1894, mar. Hugh Riah Rogers (also seen as Hugh Jr., and is Hughriah in 2 deeds dated 1855; his tombstone reads Hugh R. Rogers, and he is called Hugh Riah Rogers in a federal land patent, cert. no. 18162); these are my 2g-gparents
iii. Caroline b. 10 Feb 1829, d. 10 Apr 1915, mar. Finis Dudley Beachum; sometimes called Mary Caroline, but she had an older sister Mary, so “Mary Caroline” is probably an error
iv. Sarah Ann b. ca. 1830, d. aft. May 1856, mar. Shadrack Tipton
v. Martha b. 1832, d. 21 Sep 1911, mar. James Franklin Works
vi. Dorn Jr. b. 11 jun 1834, d. 25 may 1913, mar. 1st Mary Martha Moore, mar. 2nd Sophonia Wren
vii. Drucilla b. 9 Mar 1843, mar. 1st James McAllister Womack, mar. 2nd W. J. “Jack” Tipton, mar. 3rd Isom Jentry (Gentry?) Warren

Dorn and Sarah were said to have had 7 daughters, so 2 are currently unidentified; relative to this, note an enigmatic remark in a 25 Dec 1852 entry in the Lentz Diary: “Dorn Patton's son-in-law was stabbed and died” – neither the deceased nor his wife, presumably a dau. of Dorn Patton, have yet been identified; however, the son-in-law could also be a step-son, or the husband of a step-daughter.

A note concerning the location of Dorn Patton’s grave: L. P. Allen Jr. stated in 1975 that he had not found the grave of Dorn Patton at Friendship cem. or any other likely locations, and had concluded either that Dorn may have been killed by Union guerrillas during the CW and his body simply not buried in normal fashion, or he had moved to TX and is bur. there, where some of his relatives had lived for 2 decades before his death (the lack of any estate settlement records for Dorn in Itawamba Co. MS is circumstantial support for this theory; his widow Sarah is also supposed to be bur. in TX 1868, but the location is also not known); on the other hand, the book Prentiss County, MS: Hist. and Families, Prentiss Co. Hist. Soc.,Turner Pub. Co. (2002), states on p. 149 that Dorn Patton is bur. near his dau. Eliza (Patton) Gaines and her husband John S. Gaines "in Pleasant Valley" (John and Eliza are bur. in Pleasant Valley cem., Kirkville in present Prentiss Co. MS) - but this publication provided no proof of this Pleasant Valley location. Considering Dorn Patton’s wealth (at least in land), it would be surprising if his grave had not at one time been marked; however, rumors of a fortune in gold having been buried with him may have led to the destruction of any grave marker he might ever have had.

2. Children of John Patton b. 14 Jul 1780, d. 5 Mar 1833 Fayette Co. AL, mar. Sarah Langston sometime during Feb 1803 Montgomery Co. KY (date and place of his death are given in her bounty land application of 1855, based on his service as pvt. in Capt. John Dobbins' Co., Col. Thos. Williamsons' 2nd Regt. AL (or 5 Dec; that is, either 5/12 or 12/5), d. 29 Apr 1911, mar. Hannah Jane Cox; he may be named for James Cain, perhaps the James Cain who was a wealthy resident of Walker Co. AL in 1850 census

The 1830 census of Tuscaloosa Co. AL suggests that John Patton had 8 daughters aged 15 or under (John “Pattent” 2000001-1340001), and he may have also had ch. who had married by 1830; some possibilities beyond the 5 daughters listed above are as follows:
a. Jane Patton b. 1808 TN who mar. Andrew J. Blythe 14 Apr 1826 in Walker or Limestone Co. AL; in 1881 Jane applied for a pension based on Andrew Blythe’s service in Seminole War, per Old War WA-R21488 MS); next to "John Pattent" next to John Patton in the 1830 census of Tuscaloosa Co. AL is Andrew Blythe 20001-00001 (however, proximity alone is not proof of a relationship).
b. Minerva Patton b. ca. 1828 Tuscaloosa Co. AL, mar. William Kilgore; in 1850 census Walker Co. AL

3. Children of John Patton b. 1787 and Elizabeth Beene (some not proven to my satisfaction, but this is the “usual” list of 10 associated with this couple; Don Pate's post gives more complete data on several of these individuals, and I would defer to him on most details)
i. Geo. Wash. b. 25 Jun 1809 TN, d. 23 Sep 1877 Itawamba Co. MS, mar. bef. 1834 Catherine Reed, 8 ch.; both are bur. at Patton Cem. at Patton Flats 3 mi. NW of Tremont (cem. is in front of the G. W.
I have a copy of some of Sylvanus S. Johnson's Civil War records that I just took another look at. He died Feb 1862. I was wondering where you may have gotten the info that William Sylvanus born abt. 1863 was Sylvanus S.& Sarah Mullins son? I have been curious about this one? I look forward to working this puzzle with you.

My gr gr grandpa S.S. Johnson does not appear to be the same person, but does appear to be from the same family. The research that myself and others Johnson researchers have come up with is that my S.S.'s father was William D. Johnson born abt.1837 in Alabama son of Stephen Edward Johnson & Elizabeth. The man that I know to be my gr gr grandpa is listed as Sylvanus b.1857 in the 1910 Rockwall,TX census. He is listed as Stephen b.1868 in the 1920 Blackland,Rockwall, Tx census. If you are interested in this line I would be glad to share with you. I am still going to persue your Sylvanus as well. I have not found him in the 1900 census yet. Thanks for your reply.

Gpa WJ died of dysentery contracted in service for the Civil War leaving gma Sophia to finish raising 5 children. I have a copy of the Civil War Pension record.

Hoping you can help. Looking for a William Smith family that lived in Itawamba county in 1850. Most moved to Texas by 1860, but William and his wife, Mary are nowhere that I can find them. They were William Smith, born 1788 in NC, his wife Mary ? born 1789 in SC, James Milton or Milton James Smith, born 1820 in Ala., Sidney E. Smith, born 1830 in Ala., Pinkery Smith, born 1831 in Ala., Harvy V. Smith, born 1837 in Ala., and Eliza Smith, born 1839 in Ala.
James, Sidney, Harvy, and Eliza were in Texas in 1860. There were probably more children, because of the 10 year span between James and Sidney. There could of been daughters that married, but don't know where to look without any names to go by. Thank you for any help that you might be able to give to me.
Leila Raye Smith
IF anyone still posting here has anything that will help with this I would greatly appreciate it. this is what I have so far.

Me: Wayne Stone

Father: Kenneth Stone > Charles Stone> Jim Stone Married Cordelia Mcneese who was the daugther of Sarah Harbour who I believe married a Thomas Harbour(Harber) in Itawamaba county. The only marriage I can find though took place 4 years before she would have been old enough to have gotten married I think. The only Thomas Harbour I can find on Census records that fits closely is a Thomas and Winnyford Harbour no Sarah. I need to know if anyone has anything that could confirm that this Thomas Harbour is the same Thomas that had brothers Sherman, Van Buren, And Charles. I have some papers from the courthouse in Itawamaba county that shows their Guardianship being taken away from an Elizabeth Raper if anyone needs that or you might already have that.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciated and I would gladly share any info that I have.

Thanks

Wayne Stone
Calhoun County Missisisppi

hope Linda reads this. I am interested in the Willison connection to this family. My Willison was Rhoda, who married Noah Whitehouse Coffman in 1830 in OH. I'm trying to find her people and have no idea who they were or where they lived, before moving to OH. I have a lot of relatives, who moved from NY, RI, MA, VT, VA, NC and TN northward and westward; so they could have been from any state. Some were Quakers or Mennonites, and some were not. If you have any of this family in your research, I'd appreciate your help; so I can connect up my Willison family. Thank you very much.
Can someone researching either of these names help me out? My name is spelled Shempert and have been looking for a William Harvey Shempert. He is my g-g grandfather and I have traced his wife Nancy Elizabeth Elliott Shempert. My question is could the names be some link as to why I can't find him. In an 1880 Lee Co. MS census Nancy is head of household and her name is spelled Schumpert. In a 1894 Enumeration of Educable Children for Pontotoc Co. Ms her name is spelled Shumpert. My Wm. H. Shempert was born approx. 1840-1843 where? lived in Monroe Co. Ms around 1866 because he married August 1, 1866 to Nancy Elliott. Relatives surnames include Elliott, Hester, Hinton, Wilson. Can someone HELP!!!!

I can send you a genealogy report with the information on this Bunkley family as I have now. I have done more research on the Bunkley's over the years.

This particular line of Bunkley's is not my direct line, I am reserching because I think this line is related to mine somehow, I just haven't found the link yet.

my email is christinesoffemartin@hotmail.com

I still have not proven that the Jesse L. Bunkley in Ithawamba county Mississippi is the son of William Dawson Bunkley.

My great-grandfather was George A Robinson, b. VA abt 1833, m.Celia Ann Buffkin in MS 4 Nov 1861. In Franklin Co, MS 1870 census, but Celia widowed by 1880. I don't know where he came from or where he went. This is my brick wall. Any hints at all would be welcome. His children: George Anna, John Edward (or Edgar), Maggie Eudora, Theodocia, William D, Hugh Benjamin (my grandfather), Lou Ella.
Family says the Robinson brothers walked (?) from VA to the Carolinas and then to Alabama and Mississippi. Any clues?

Sorry for the slow reply. I don't have a lot of time to follow up on these things. My Dad got our copy of pictures from your relatives in Texas. Two of Martins' daughters were living in the early 1980's and I thought the pics came from the Durhams. He got several tin type and other pics before one of their husbands got flipped out and threatened to come out here and kick my dad's blankity blank if he didn't just leave them alone. We thought that was amusing but chose not to have any more contact.

I'll do what I can do to send you copies and I know how cool it would be for you. I remember when we got them. But the originals are somewhere in Texas probably with - Martin's grand children.

I had a great phone conversation with Martin's son Elbert right before he died. (He and his wife were very nice people) He said when he was 12 or 16 yrs old he and his Dad went back to Mississippi to visit family. He said "my daddy joined the 1st Miss, Regt. because grandpa Thomas voted for Abraham Lincoln and the people in Tremont wanted to lynch him." That's probabley why all the brothers except possibly John joined up. Roy

Thank you for your quick response! I would be forever grateful for a photo of MV Harbour and will be more than happy to reimburse you for your time and trouble and expense. Thank you for the information and the clues in continuing my search.

My grandmother was Sallie (Salye) Harbor and her mother was Elizabeth (Lizzie) Corinth Roberts. Best I can tell she was his second wife and they were together until his death in Abilene, TX in 1923. Lizzie Harbor died in 1927 I believe. MV Harbor is buried in Little Elm Cemetery and Lizzie and a boatload of other Harbors (Harbours) are buried in the Abilene city cemetery.

Rick Durham
P.O.
I am a ggranddaughter of Martin Van Buren Harbour. My grandfather, Doctor Luther Harber, had a twin, Clara Lottie Harber Trulove. Their mother was Mary Robinson, Martin's first wife.
You can learn a lot about the Harbour, Harbor, Harber family tree from the book, "Harbours of America". I asked my local library to locate the book for me to read. I know a copy is in the Atlanta area. Also, I happened upon a book full of Harbour information in a book I found at a little tourist shop in Mayberry, VA. The title is "History of Patrick County Virginia". This is where the first Harbours settled. With info from this book I was able to locate and visit the Harbour Cemetery.
I can not put my hands on Martin V. B.'s picture at this time but I will look for it.
I do not have a scanner and would need to mail you a copy.
I can be reached at bobandsam@aol.com
