1853 is a little early for that kind of record in Iowa. If you are trying to prove descent, your best bet may be the 1860-1900 census, the 1925 Iowa census (parents names were given) if he was still in Iowa in 1925, land records and/or estates/will records for his father and/or mother. You might try usgenweb.com for Iowa and Wright County, but I don't think the birth records go back that far.
Good Luck
Laurice Johnson

I can't tell you how much I appreciate your kindness is doing that research. I do have the census info for Thomas Titus from 1850 down to 1895 (he dided in 1898). Also his marriage record to Sarah Beatty Cooper (who, yes, as you suspected, had been married before and had two Cooper children). I have an obit for Elmore Titus, as well as an obit for Lucetta Titus, both children of Thomas Titus. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to locate a death record or obit for Thomas Titus (his gravestone transcription records only his name and birth and death dates - and the latter was incorrectly transcribed by the WPA). None of the records found so far give any clues to Thomas' birthplace in PA, or his parentage.

However, you did find a potential clue in William Titus and Harlan. Thank you so much. I will do some digging and see what I can come up with on William and Harlan.

marigoldcastle, have you already gone back to the 1860 and 1850 censuses to try to locate TL Titus and wife Sarah, based on age and birthplace?

I've found a very good match in the 1860 census, IL, Whiteside County, Clyde Township, page 1.

Family 453
Titus F L 45 abt 1815 Male Pennsylvania
Titus Sarah 43 abt 1817 Female Pennsylvania
Titus George 24 abt 1836 Male Ohio
Cooper Sarah 22 abt 1838 Female Ohio
Titus Luretta 17 abt 1843 Female Ohio
Titus Elmore 15 abt 1845 Male Ohio
Titus Robin 12 abt 1848 Male
Titus Artensa 10 abt 1850 Female Ohio
Titus Alice 3 abt 1857 Female Illinois

In 1850, this family was in OH, Morrow County, Franklin Township:

Family 1911
Thomas L. TITUS, 35, Carpenter, 900, PA
Sarah, 33, PA
George O. COOPER, 14, OH
Sarah L. COOPER, 12, OH
Luzetta TITUS, 7, OH
Elmore Y. TITUS, 6, OH
Rollin/Robbin B. TITUS, 2, OH

It appears that George and Sarah "Jr." may be children of Sarah by a previous marriage to someone named COOPER.

Note that the 1850 census indexing at ancestry gives this family's surname as PETERS, but on the census page it is clearly TITUS.

Searching the index for the surname TITUS in Morrow County, OH, in 1850, there is a 75-year-old William TITUS who was born in Pennsylvania (c1775), and a 32-year-old Harlan D. TITUS, also born in Pennsylvania--of the right age to be a brother to Thomas L.

Elmore TITUS is buried in Iowa and served in the Civil War; perhaps his pension papers would provide some leads as to his father's birthplace. (Co. E, 46th Illinois Infantry. Filed as an invalid c1890 from OK; widow filing 1922 from Iowa.)

TITUS Elmore Y. 07 Jun 1843 02 Mar 1922 Conrad Conrad Grundy GAR Marker

Do you already have a death record for Thomas? It might indicate his birthplace and parents' names.

I'm searching for an obituary, or other information, on Thomas L. Titus. He was probably living in Lincoln Township, Wright County, Iowa at the time of his death. He is listed in the 1895 Iowa state census for Lincoln Township as Thomas Tittus, age 81, with second wife, Jane, daughter, Elsie, son George, and Alfred McCarty (probably his stepson). Thomas and first wife, Sarah, lived in Grundy County Iowa during the 1870's. He was buried in Grundy. Thomas was born in PA circa 1814. Thomas is a brick wall and I'm hoping to find more detailed information as to his birthplace, siblings or parents.

I am looking for descendants of Christian T Schutt and his wife Mary who lived in this area 1880-1925. Christian T Schutt b 1843 in Germany d 1925 immigrated in 1865 with his father, step mother and several siblings. After 1870 he moved to Illinois where he married Mary Joerms and started a family. By 1880 the were in Iowa, Wright and Hamilton Counties.
I believe Christian T Schutt is brother to my ancestor Johan Christoph Schutt. I have lots of information to share if I can verify the relationship. Christian T and Mary had several children, some of whom stayed in the area for many years.

My name is Pete Gorton and I am leading an effort to shed a past due light on a great American baseball player. John Donaldson was known in the early Twentieth Century as the “Greatest Colored Pitcher In The World.” We have been tracking his playing career for several years and more information is available at:

www.johndonaldson.bravehost.com

We are looking for a very specific instance when Donaldson played in Wright county. We have a reference that mentions Donaldson playing in Goldfield, Iowa.
On September 6, 1916, Donaldson and the All Nations crossed bats with the Goldfield, Iowa. We would like someone to check the local Goldfield newspaper if one exists.
Donaldson traveled throughout the Upper Midwest during his near 40 year playing career. Some say he would have been the best pitcher in the Major Leagues in his prime of 1910 to 1917.
Any help you could give would be greatly appreciated.
If you are interested in the Donaldson effort, we can send you some background on Donaldson’s many exploits in other parts of Iowa.
I'm not related, but looked at a few of my resources in response to your query.

According to the 1910 census, Mable was born about 1902-1903 in Iowa.

I don't find Wallace CRAMER died 2004 in the Social Security Death Index, but did find this news item about his marriage:

Waterloo Daily Courier | Waterloo, Iowa | Wednesday, September 22, 1937 | Page 16

Hampton, Ia.--Miss Marion Lucile ROHN, Sheffield, and Wallace CRAMER, Belmond, were married Sunday at German Lutheran church, Sheffield. The service was read by Rev. L.W. Reuther, pastor. Attending the couple were Miss Lucille CRAMER, Belmond, and Wilfred ROHN, Sheffield. The bride was given in marriage by her father, Fred ROHN, Sheffield.

Ushers at the wedding were Miss Isabelle BROWER, Miss Betty ATKINSON and Miss Leischen WESTENBERGER, all of Sheffield. A wedding dinner was served at the home of the bride's parents, following the ceremony.

After a wedding trip to Wisconsin the couple will live in Belmond.

Wallace enlisted for service in WWII:
Enlistment Date: 20 Jan 1943
Enlistment State: Iowa
Enlistment City: Camp Dodge Herrold

Wright County Monitor, The | Clarion, Iowa | Monday, August 26, 1957 | Page 6

Observe 20th Anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. W.
Carrie and Mable are indeed the same person. Carrie Mabel (Brooks) Wauchope moved with her family to Elgin after the death of her husband, and father of the 4 children, Harvey Clayton Wauchope in 1921. Also, Nellie is not listed in the 1930 census. She is in fact Irene (Wauchope) Strahl. Just in case of confusion my grandfather Robert Harold, the youngest of Harvey and Carrie's children, married Irene Lamprecht. Thus you will find two different Irene Wauchope's, Roberts sister and his wife. Furthermore. Irene (Wauchope) Strahl married Harold Strahl, who was the brother of Roy Wauchope's first wife Hazel (Strahl) Wauchope.

They were the parents of sons Roy and Clyde and daughter Nellie. ..."

bbahler, I wonder whether you have already considered the possibility that Carrie BROOKS Wauchope (enumerated with Harvey and children Roy, Clyde and Nellie in 1910 (IL, LaSalleCounty, Farm Ridge, ED 99) might be enumerated as Mabel Wauchope with children Roy, Cylide [sic], Nellie, Irene and Robert, and Roy's wife Hazel, in 1930 (IL, KaneCounty, Elgin, ED 64; 320 Raymond Street).

Carrie and Mabel's birthplaces are both listed as IL, both list NY as father's birthplace, and both list OH as mother's birthplace.

Thanks. Per the 1910 census, Nellie Wauchope was the third child, born circa 1909. It appeasr Irene was born after that. It may be that Nellie died young (perhaps in the flu pandemic in 1917-1918?), and that whoever supplied information for Roy's obituary was unaware of Nellie.

Re: Doolittle Family tree

Faith,
I believe that your grandfather was the son of John Oscar Doolittle who was the youngest brother of my grandmother Fannie Doolittle Matlock. I have a ton of information on the Doolittles in Indiana and before (Ohio, New York, Vermont, Connecticut, England) if you would like to know more. I just got into playing with genealogy about a year ago and it's been fun figuring out the past. My father left Indiana as a young man around 1930 so I don't know much about his siblings or the other Indiana family members.
I received a CD from the Doolittle society (amazing that such an organization exists, isn't it?) and it had some information on your branch of the family so that led me to be interested in finding anyone descended from John Oscar Doolittle who might be willing to share information. I live in Maryland but it seems that a bunch of my different family lines wound up in Indiana in the 19th century. I hope you will email me with what you might know and I would be happy to give you what I have found on Fannie and John's parents, Joel Franklin Doolittle and Lucinda Rice Doolittle, who would be your gg-grandparents.
Kate
