How do I find your facebook page? I have family from the Dugger area. Elmer Elliot & Mary Ann Montgomery Jackson were my great grandparents, as were Thomas Melvin & Eva Alsman Hudson Morris. So, many related families for many generations!

I know nothing about this person's background. From the letter he wrote Henry Lee I can infer the following: Henry must have written to and asked Thomas about people in his area they both knew and what had happened to them, births, marriages, deaths, since Henry had been there. I would guess Henry had lived there at one time before 1909. Thomas says he is living in Dugger and there has been too much happening for him to tell it all in his letter. He raises hunting hounds as a business but is getting out of it. The rest of the letter is a sales pitch for his dogs. The letter is dated Sept. 17, 1912.

Yes, Cully, I am Ellen, the last entry in the family info you sent. You and I corresponded when you were working on your family WAGGONER book. and I sent you info on James White's children.
I still have not found where James WHITE died (1911) though one obit in Sullivan paper said his body was returned from Lawrence Co. IL. to be buried in Sullivan Co. Indiana But I just sent to Lawrence co Illinois, for death certificate and Lawrence Co. IL said they did not have his death record.

I have not located any other info on James's parents: William and Martha, except from Vernilia's death certificate said Martha's maiden name was Gilliland.

so the search goes on.

Thank you so much Ken. I am communicating with 2 other Great Granddaughters and we have come to a road block on Thomas Sheperd. Another Granddaughter found that he had been convicted of murder and was sentenced to jail, then released many years later. We also heard that he then lived with his Father. But we have nothing concrete on this.

Anything you can do will help or you could send me the link to these things if you don't want to take the time. At any rate, we appreciate your help.

Lawyer and his family left GA and went to IN while most of the other Suggs family went to AL.
Here is obituary from the Sullivan Union Newspaper June 16, 1875.

-Assassinated- Last Friday night a dastardly coward and assassin crept to the window of Mr. Macy Engle, of this county, and deliberately shot him in the head. Suspicion points to one Thomas Shepherd who suddenly disappeared as soon as the man was found to be dead. This suspicion is futher comfirmed by the fact that Shepherd was said to have been too intimate with Engle's wife. Rumor also states that she held the light while the coqardly villian leveled his weapon at her sleeping husband. our county Commissioners have offered a reward of $200 for the arrest of Shepherd

Yes, you are correct for Ellen has a Hellen on the 1910 census and if John Ts' bday is Aug 21, 1857, maybe thats why I have a marriage certificate for George W. and Emma from Sullivan County for May 18, 1857. On the 1880 census it says hes' 20 but Emma's pretty much is correct 1839 or 40.

How are you related to Geo W. and Emma, Emma is my Gr-Gr-Grandmother. Annie Boon is my Gr-Grandmother. Her real name is Anna Edna (Boon) Eslinger.

You may be right, but I believe that in translating the census records, a "H" was added in front of ELLEN. If you notice, Earl's name is spelled with a "H" in front of it also. I have John's birthdate as August 21, 1857 in IN and death date as April 8, 1921. I show he is the son of George W. Boone and Emma Hall.

Thank you. All I know is that my great-grandmother, Ida Powell, raised my mother, Helen Edwards, when her mother Sarah Gregg Edwards died. My mother was called Pat all her life and she may be the PatyAnn you mention. I just remember my great-grandfather being referred to as Joe, because he was dead before I was born. I do wonder though, why my mother's older sister MaryAnn is not on the list.
Again, thank you, I will follow up on the last one as I think that may be my great-grandmother.

Sandi

Hi, would your Henry Kennedy be a brother to Dora Alice Kennedy? She is my ancestor and had a brother Henry that I just could not trace. Her other siblings I have found. She was the daughter of James Kennedy (Ohio) and Elizabeth Ann (Nancy) Roe (Ohio). She married Wesley Calvin Boyd. She had brothers: George, John, Reese, Henry and Frank, sisters: Jennie, Lydia, Zona, Laura Bell, Lillie. James Kennedy's parents, John (Delaware) and Mary, had children, John (stayed in Perry, Ohio) , Eli (ended up in Indiana) , James (Dora's father), Ann (possibly Whitman), & George (came to Sullivan, lived with James, and ended up in Vigo, Indiana). Dora's granddaughter tells the story that "John Kennedy came from Ireland as a stowaway & ended up in Ohio and met and married a beautiful young Indian girl from the Miami tribe. (Is this Mary?) They married and moved to relocate to Sullivan County, Indiana." Does this story sound familiar to you? And would you know more about John and Mary Kennedy?

Illinois. his birth occurring
October 20, 1831. His parents Anderson and Sarah (Whitlock) Crawley, were natives of Virginia,
and from that state emigrated ti Indian in about 1840, settling in Fairbanks Township, Sullivan
County, where Mr. Crawley worked at carpentering and farming. David Crawley remained with his
parents until attaining his majority, but at the age of fifteen years he was apprenticed to W.D.
Weir, at Fairbanks to learn the Cabinet trade, serving with him three years. He then embarked in
business at Fairbanks on his own responsibility, but in 1865, moved to Sullivan, where he has
ever since sustained the cabinet trade. While a resident of Fairbanks township, Mr Crawley was
elected, under the old system, Township Clerk and treasurer, and was also elected to the latter
office when the old law was repealed and the new and present one of having only one trustee to a
township was substituted, holding the office five years.
Hahaha, wow! I am Bernice's youngest, Twila. I'm sure we have met, but not for a while. I don't live in Greene Co., I am not far away, in Sullivan! I'm so glad you are on here! I started doing some research a few years ago, but got away from it. My mom and your grandma have a cousin near Indy, Lowell Nichols, who has quite a bit of information, but he's another 'branch'.

Luther Nichols is my great-grandfather. I'm Glenda's daughter Kendra (Jo's granddaughter). Which of Grandma Flossie's kids are you from? I see from your profile name that you're still in the Greene County area, which means I probably have actually met you at least at the last reunion at Aunt Chubb's. :)

Caroline and Lorenzo are my great-grandparents. Their son, Luther Nichols, was my mother's father. I really appreciate the help! Lorenzo's father, Harrison, is buried near here.

I know it has been years since this was posted, but if you are still researching, I have some information for you. Caroline Mae Headley and Lorenzo Dow Nichols are my great-great grandparents. Caroline's father was indeed Thomas Dial Headley, but her mother was not Sarah (whose surname is Knowles). Sarah was Thomas' second wife whom he married in 1875. Since Caroline was born in 1857, it is improbable that Sarah is her mother. Thomas' first wife was Vianna Kelly. I hope this helps!

I don't know if this will help, but Carrico is an unual name and maybe you can use this information. This is an excerpt from a family letter written in 1921:"one of the girls married a Hazelton... another a Carrico and lived in southern Missouri (I have met some people here in Wray, Colorado) who knew her descendants in Oregon County, Missouri." The girl referred to was on of the daughters of Frank and Abagail Williams who lived near Vincennes, Indiana. Her last name was Williams, not Smith, but just maybe it could be her. In any case there appeared to be some Carricos families in southern Missiouri in 1921.

Hopewell:
General Notes:
"HISTORY OF SULLIVAN COUNTY - Closing of the First Century's History of the County, and Showing the Growth of it's People, Institutions, Industries and Wealth" Thomas J. Wolfe, Editor, The Lewis Publishing Company, New York and Chicago, 1909 pgs 309-310

GEORGE W. HOPEWELL, who was a soldier in the Union cause at the time of the Civil war in this country, and who now resides in Gill township, Sullivan county, on land entered by his father at an early day, was born on the farm where he now resides March 9, 1843. His parents were John and Katherine (Lisman) Hopewell, both of whom were natives of Kentucky. The father came to Sullivan county and took advantage of cheap government land, the warrant for which was signed by President James Monroe, He continued to reside on this land until his death, in about 1849. His wife died there about 1872. He served his country as a soldier during the entire period of the war with Mexico. Their children were eleven in number, and are all deceased but George W. of this notice and one sister, Katherine, the wife of Amos Fiske, residing in Carlisle, where he is now retired, having spent the active years of his life as a mechanical engineer.
George W. Hopewell attended the public schools of New Lebanon, and remained on the old place with his mother until her death, when the farm came into his hands. He soon afterward married and continued to operate the homestead, to which he has from time to time made valuable additions and substantial improvements. Here he still carries on general farming and stock raising. He owns one hundred and ten acres, forty acres of which are about a mile and a
half west of the homestead. Mr. Hopewell served at the time of the Civil war as a member of Company G, One Hundred and Forty-ninth Indiana Regiment of Infantry, under Captain Parvin. He enlisted at New Lebanon, served about eleven months and was honorably discharged at Indianapolis, having been mustered out at Nashville, Tennessee. His service was mostly doing picket duty. He is a consistent member of the Methodist Episcopal church and in politics votes an
independent ticket, choosing such candidates as seem in his own judgment best calculated to serve the interests of the people. He was married, April 21, 1880, to Miss Melissa Owens, a native of Missouri, and a daughter of Elias and Sally Ann (Johnson) Owens. Her parents came to Indiana during the Civil war period, locating in Sullivan county on a farm, where they died. The death of the father occurred in 1888, and the mother ten years later. The father was a blacksmith, which trade he followed together with farming until his death. To Mr. and Mrs. Hopewell was born one son:
Thomas E. Hopewell, born April 17, 1882, and now residing in New Lebanon and assisting his father on his farm. He married Mabel Oldham, born near Palestine, Crawford county.
