I am hoping to find "cousins" in this area, descended from John Cleveland McWilliams and his wife Nancy Hockaday McWilliams.
Our family lived in Virginia until after the Revolutionary War when they moved to Kentucky. John McWilliams and his wife Elizabeth Cleveland McWilliams raised a large family there.
About the middle 1850s, several of the sons started moving west, settling in Missouri, Kansas, Oklahoma and Indianna.
I am looking for the descendants of Richard McWilliams and Dudley McWilliams. Both are sons of John Cleveland and Nancy Hockaday McWilliams.
I would enjoy hearing anything about the family.

Dudley, the son of John C. McWilliams and Nancy Hockaday married Amanda Madora Elder in 1867. She was the daughter of James Elder and Amanda Burford. Dudley and Amanda McWilliams had at least three children - William E., Nanna, and John.

WILLIAM ELDER MCWILLIAMS (DUDLEY2, JOHN CLEVELAND1) was born August 08, 1868. He married MARGARET ROSE HOBSON September 23, 1891, daughter of ALFRED HOBSEN and MARY NELSON. She was born September 17, 1868 in Marshall, Parke Co., IN, and died January 17, 1960 in Culver Hospital, Crawfordsville, IN.

Born Sept. 17, 1868 in Marshall, daughter of Alfred and Mary Ann Nelson HOBSON. She married William ELDER MCWILLIAMS 9-23-1891. Member of Marshall Federated Church and OES. Survivors are a daughter, M. Laverne Tenbrook, Marshall; two sons, Richard MCWILLIAMS of Indianapolis and Dr. Wm. B. McWilliams of Liberty; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Services were held Federated Church, Marshall, Jan. 19 with burial in Poplar Grove Cemetery, Parke Co., IN

Children of WILLIAM MCWILLIAMS and MARGARET HOBSON are:
i. DORA LA VERNE MCWILLIAMS, b. June 15, 1893; m. Nfn. TENBROOK; b. Abt. 1890.
Around 1960 Dora was still living acording to a note from Rose McElwain Blue. She had two husbands and lost a son in World War II.
ii. RICHARD LELAND MCWILLIAMS, b. February 09, 1895.
iii. WILLIAM BRYAN MCWILLIAMS, b. October 18, 1896.
William B. was a lawyer in Crawfordsville, IN around 1960 according to Rose McElwain Blue.

JOHN C. MCWILLIAMS (DUDLEY2, JOHN CLEVELAND1) was born April 09, 1877. He married BLANCHE SCOTT September 12, 1899. She was born April 09, 1877.
Living in Atlantic City NJ in early 1960's. Lebert Blue and family visited them there around 1940 while vacationing at a cottage in Ocean City, NJ.

Child of JOHN MCWILLIAMS and BLANCHE SCOTT is:
i. DORTHEA MCWILLIAMS, b. November 15, 1901.
Dorthea married but her married name is not available. They possibly lived in Filmore, CA in the early 1960's.

I see your family name mentioned as visiting a McWilliams family in NJ. Are you related?

Amanda Madora Elder is my great aunt on my fathers side. That makes Dudley McWilliams children and grandchildren first and second cousins. Dad's mother was Amandas sister. She married Wilbert Fisk Blue.

I may a decendent from you family tree. My ggg grandmother is Malinda Hockaday born april 1835 in missouri. Her father was born in kenturkcy and her mother was born in virgina. Don't know her parents name. She married Edmond Gregroy

It will take some research to see which branch of the Hockaday family Nancy came from. They seem to have come out of VA to KY but many went south to the Carolinas first before having some go west. I'll reply if I learn more.
