Holiday Jeter, miner, aged 26 years, married, employed in the No.3 mine of the
Peabody Coal Company, Marion, was killed by a fall of slate in his room. Upon entering his working place he found that a shot, fired the previous night, was ssstanding "tight", and he started tomine it loose over the top. While so engaged a large piece of slate fell, breaking his neck. He leaves a widow and two children.
Slate is dark shale lying next to the coalbeds. It contains impressions of the plant life of distant ages, proving the vegetable origin of coal
