Thanks for sharing! I came across your information a little earlier and printed off a lot of it. I've been in contact with Bob Dryden, who said he's been talking with you too. He sent me a chapter on the Gordon's and I sent him a package of pictures and obits that I had on the Gordons. If you have any questions or want any info about Ransom Gordon and his descendents just let me know and I'll be happy to share it with you!!

Emily
emily.hulbert@yahoo.com

Here is what I have on the Gordon family. I did not have Ransom and family in my tree. I guess I haven't done a lot of research on them because it's sort of a collateral branch. I am descended from George's sister Cellestine who married Sam Royer.

Here is a link to my rootsweb tree:

http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&d...

I hope this helps out.

Randy

Hi Eilene!

Here's what I have on Ransom...
He was born on April 7, 1884 and died June 2, 1938 and is buried in the Janesville (or New Gordon) Cemetery in Pleasant Grove Twp, Coles County, Illinois.

He married Nannie E. Devore on April 1, 1903 in Lerna, Coles Co., Ill.
Nannie was born on May ? 1883 in Lerna, Coles Co, Ill.
and she died in 1917, buried in the same cemetery as Ransom.

They had Paul Ivan Gordon (1907-1947) and Marion Gordon (1915-1980)

Ransom remarried to Mamie Cook on Feb 17, 1921 in Cumberland County, Illinois.***

***We never knew if they had any children, but I recently came across Paul Ivan's obit and it says that survivors include a stepmom, two half brothers, one half sister all of Marion, Illinois. It also says that he was preceeded in death by an infant sister.
Do you know anything about any of them? That would be great if you did.

Paul Ivan Gordon (my Great Grandfather) was born May 17, 1907 in Lerna, Ill.
and died April 6, 1947 from a heart ailment. He is buried in Harlington Cemetery in Waverly, Bremer County, Iowa.
He married Lila Deike on June 25, 1927 in Charles City, Iowa. They had four children:
Ralph Edward Gordon 1928-
Beverly Dean Gordon 1929-1979
Paul Robert "Spike" Gordon 1930-1988 (my Grandfather)
Gloria June Gordon 1934-2009

-------------------------------
Ransom Gordon had 2 siblings, Lawrence Everett Gordon (1881-1941) and Iva Myrtle.
Their parents are George Gordon (July 10, 1857-July 2, 1932) and Emily A. Price(March 5, 1854-July 20, 1920) married Nov 4, 1877. Both are buried in the New Gordon Cemetery in Illinois.

George's parents are William and Lethetha Maria Jane Childers (known as Maria).

Hope this helps you! Let me know what you have.

Emily
emily.hulbert@yahoo.com

Hello and thanks! Yes, I have searched the database but have not found William himself. The Gehl family has been somewhat easier to trace - they ended up in New Mexico, Matilda with them which is where she eventually died.

What I'm most anxious to find is a death record for William, I'd like to find documentation of his parentage, but so far have not had luck.

Thanks though!

I'm trying to track down a death date for a William McGinnis who lived in Cumberland Co in the 1800 Census. His wife Matilda (Shaeffer) is listed as a widow (in Clark Co) in the 1900 Census. William died in between 1800 and 1900, along with 6 of their children. I have been unable to find any record or burial of any of the family members. Also, William is listed as a Minister of the Gospel in the 1800 Census, but I have been unable to affiliate his name with churches in the area. Any help would be greatly appreciated. They are:

William McGinnis b. 1839 in OH
Harvey A. b. 1862 in OH
John W. b. 1865 in OH
James G. b. 1867 in OH
Ruth b. 1869 in OH
Ida b. 1872 in OH
Jessie (female) b. 1874 in IL

There were two other daughters as well who survived into adulthood. Sarah, who married Nicholas Gehl and who I have found plenty of information on, and Clara, who married someone last name Harper, who I've found nothing else about. Any information on these two would also be appreciated.

Thanks so much in advance for any / all information, tips that are provided. This branch turned into a dead end fairly quickly!

Thank you. I will check out some of those counties.

As to "Blair" I am not searching it as a surname. I have a missing half-uncle, Blair Pearce, who shows in the 1930 USFC in Fayette Co., IN, age about 21 and nothing more on him. He might have spelled his name "Pierce," or changed his name because his parents had died when he was an infant and he was raised by his maternal grandparents. But he was so close to being given a social security number. I did find a Blair Pearce line in Arkansas, but could not find that they related to him. My Higgins were from Harrison, Montgomery and Fleming Co., KY through Scott Co., IN (some were in Rush Co., IN too). I know the name Wiley comes up with Pierce families from NC or SC who migrated down from MA or CT; might be related to mine way back. Thank you for the kindness of your lookups.

Sharon

Some of my ancesters names are Wiley and Higgins, but I dont know if we have a relationship to tie them together. As for the info I have been sending you I am not related to Short, Corwin, Knight, or Pearce. My Pierce is spelled like that. Most Wiley and Higgins are are Coles Co., IL. Pierce are Clay Co., IL. I also noticed you were researching Blair surname, mine are from Clay Co., IL. Good luck in your research. If I can help let me know. :)

It helps me a great deal.

I will find out if Thomas was a brother to William (it seems likely) and that Jo Ellen was a sister to Thomas Wiley. Otherwise it is all clear who these persons are.

My tree is public (last posted at the end of August to Ancestry.com, and is William Willis Pearce + Jacobus, Avery, Vanpelt...(and more)

Thank you. I had been provided that information by a researcher in the area. Herman died in 1852 in Indiana.

But I do thank you for obtaining the data and responding as well. There are some other family members nearby, including Elizabeth's daughter, Mahala Avery Short and her husband Wm. Short. Two of their sons, Herman and Wm. Short, we have nothing but birth dates on, so I don't know what happened to them. Many from southeastern IN migrated to this area ca. 1860s and later (don't exactly know why). In some cases the husbands just went right into the war effort, so there must have been many war widows in the area.

I am also trying to find Phoebe Pearce Corwin and Samantha Pearce Higgins who were in the area at the same time. Samantha may have died after 1910 in McLean County, IL though; not sure about that.

Hi Marilyn,

Your email address is no longer active, so I'm posting this here hoping you'll see it.

I was searching for this book too. As a child growing up in Cincinnati in the 1980's, my friend Emily Gillespie had this book on their shelf. I asked to read it but she said I couldn't borrow it because it was written by a family member (her maternal grandmother I believe), it was about their family, and they only had one copy. The family moved to Kenosha, Wisc. in 1990 and I lost touch. I can get you more info on the family if you'd like.

Good luck and let me know if you find it.
Amy
She passed along some family information that her mother was "Nancy," but I believe her biological mother was Sarah Owens Higginbotham who died when Emily was four or five, and I think John Baugher then married "Nancy," but I've never been 100% who this Nancy was. Is it Woolover or Woolever, and did this Nancy go on to marry William Linnabery, and if so did she marry him before or after John Will Pearcy??

In addition to marrying Joseph Higginbotham, did Elizabeth marry Joseph Vernon Wade first?

Yes, I have been to the Old Gordon cemetery where Alice is buried. I have other family members buried there. And I do know that her husband, Lewis Clark did remarry Minnie Wilma Hoover in 1918. I have census records for them and names and dates for their children. I just wanted to find out if there was a death certificate because I didn't know how she died. But I since have found a copy of her obituary in the Toledo Democrat on microfilm at the Charlestion library and that told me that she died of "consumption" which was Tuberculosis. thanks for your information!

I did find an entry in the cemetery inscriptions for Old Gordon cemetery (about a mile or two north of Janesville) for Alice Clark b. 12/13/1882 d. 4/26/1908 wife of L.B. Clark. His name is on the stone but no dates are supplied which could indicate that he was never buried there. Perhaps he remarried and was buried with a later wife?

Apparently Alice and L. B. married after 1900 because the 1900 census for Pleasant Grove twp. Coles County IL shows Alice living with her widowed mother Mary A. Foote and some sisters.

I did check Coles Co. just to be sure and they also said they didn't have a record of it. I didn't even think about record keeping for deaths maybe not always being done at that time. Especially since she died at her mothers home and not at a hospital.
Also, I am going to check the indexes to the death records, I think the Charleston Library has those.
thanks for the reply!
