I am trying to find some background on Leonard T Nelson. Who were his parents and where is from? Did he have brothers and sisters?
I know Leonard and Lurena married in Ga, moved to Al and then to Fl. Have most of the descendants but can't find the ancestry.
Can anyone help?

I am also working on this line. I have John Nelson (1775 GA) as his father but no mother mentioned. My grandmother was a Nelson - her father was George Nelson married to Isabelle Tabitha Trawick. Where do you begin with the Nelson family?
Thanks Donna

Wow! The message you have responded to is very old(2006). Thanks for your interest.

I have been trying for a long time to find the answers to the questions about Leonard T Nelson and Lurena Hudgins. I have tried to track other Nelsons and Hudgins living in the areas where the two were mentioned in census reports and the like. The only thing I have come up with is a John Nelson on the 1840 US census. He is found on the same page as Leonard and that really only makes them neighbors, without further proof. This John is old enough to be Leonards father or perhaps a much older brother.

I have used this John Nelson in my tree simple as a point of reference. I would like to prove that the 2 are related, but I have not so far.

Should you find any information on the ancestry of Leonard T Nelson or Lurena Hudgins I would be so grateful for your help.

Thanks, clarkj777

To answer your question. My branch of the tree is the second son of Leonard T Nelson, Ansel; then his son James L; his son Alonso Cornelius and then my dad.

My original research was to prove or disprove that there is a possiblility of Native American heritage in our family. My dad said that one of his grandmothers married a full blood Cherokee. Still trying to find out the truth.

There is one interesting name in the list Mary Gridderson. She married Thomas M Nelson; the first son of Leonard T. The Gridderson name is a complete mystery. There is no such surname that I have been able to find. All queries come back a dead end. Mary Gridderson Nelson would be your grandmother, not mine.

It also occured to me that Leonard T might be the Native American; since I haven't been able to find a father or mother. Native Americans often changed there names to Anglican names after the Indian wars. I have discovered that Leonardd T Nelson fought in many Indian wars. He could have possibly been an Indian as a scout for the American Army. Just guessing at the possibilities.

Any other information I can share; I will be glad to.

Thomas M is my great great great grandfather - then James K-then George Washington finally my grandmother Gretrude Nelson. I have Mary Gridderson name as Mary Crittenden - Thomas M second wife. Not sure where this came from. I know that there are some Cherokee, I will check to see if I can find the names connected. You can email me at dkgilbert@bellsouth.net
thanks
