To answer your question. My branch of the tree is the second son of Leonard T Nelson, Ansel; then his son James L; his son
Alonso Cornelius and then my dad.
My original research was to prove or disprove that there is a possiblility of Native American heritage in our family. My dad said that one of his grandmothers married a full blood Cherokee. Still trying to find out the truth.
There is one interesting name in the list Mary Gridderson. She married Thomas M Nelson; the first son of Leonard T. The Gridderson name is a complete mystery. There is no such surname that I have been able to find. All queries come back a dead end. Mary Gridderson Nelson would be your grandmother, not mine.
It also occured to me that Leonard T might be the Native American; since I haven't been able to find a father or mother. Native Americans often changed there names to Anglican names after the Indian wars. I have discovered that Leonardd T Nelson fought in many Indian wars. He could have possibly been an Indian as a scout for the American
Army. Just guessing at the possibilities.
Any other information I can share; I will be glad to.
