I need to go back and look at my Dunn line to see what I have. I plan on doing that this weekend...perfect time for the dead!!! I have been focusing on the Porter line [also in Georgia] as I am also related to that line.
Let me take a day or so to look thru my stuff and I will get back to you on this.

His daughter Mary L married James R Lyons. I am descendent via their daughter Katie, who died January 18 1892, of influenza, leaving my grandfather alone with father. Lyons Pleas is my granddad. Surname Shellman.

I looked at the image of the marriage at Ga's Virtual Vault, it's sure recorded as Fox, but you could be right that the person who recorded it misunderstood the name.

My Great, Great Grandfather Charles W. Cooley married Orphea Fox or Cox on August 12, 1845 and it was recorded on May 18, 1846, in Jasper County. I can not locate any surname Fox in Jasper at the time however I can locate the name Cox. Being that the marriage was not recorded until approximately 9 months after the marriage, I wonder if the name was mispronounced, mis-spelled or misunderstood when it was recorded. If anyone has any information on a Orphea Cox or Orphea Fox, born 1824 Ga., I certainly would appreciate the help. Charles and Orphea relocated to Columbus, Ga., about 1861.

Tony, there is a lady who lives in that area by the name of Marie Goolsby. She is in her 80's and grew up there. She could probably help you. She was a lot of help to me my my Gooslby's and Lazenby's.

There are minute books from Providence Baptist Church archived in the library at Mercer University in Macon, Ga. They are on microfilm and can be requested through your local library to be viewed there. We do not at this time have a list of members from the early 1800's but are in the process of trying to compile this and review those old minute books and documents as our church will celebrate its 200th Anniversary on Dec. 10,2010 and we are planning a celebration for next fall. I have Zephaniah Harvey as son of William and Verlinda Harvey. Born 1759, died 1832 in Jasper County, GA. There is a book on the Harvey line written by Alton Harvey.

Zephaniah Harvey is my 4G-grandfather. I do not have a copy of his will, but I understand it is filed in Will Book N, Jasper County, signed 1 February 1832, proven 17 August 1832. I have not seen it on line.

I believe there must be church records, probably at the Georgia Archives in Atlanta.

15 Dec 1810 Providence Baptist Church was constituted in Shady Dale, Jasper Co, GA. Charter members were Jacob and Jael Mercer, Martin and Polly Stanly, James and Martha Brown, Elizabeth Green, Rebecca Walden, John Ferrell, Elkany Denson. First deacons were Martin Stanly and James Brown. First clerk was James Richards. Early pastors were James Henderson, James Wilkerson, John Bogan, James Green, James Carter, W. G. Horsley, and Asa Marshall.

I am seeking information on the parents and siblings of Jesse Lewis b- ca 1810 in Georgia. He married Lucy (?) and raised his family in Alabama. He died in Mobile County Alabama after 1880. I know this isn't much information to go on but I have hit a wall on this line of my family. Any information will be greatly appreciated.

I have assembled a lot of info on the Waters Dunn line and looking at his will you will notice he names a son Gatewood Dunn and a son Richard Dunn along with others. We know that his son Gatewood Dunn was in Oglethorpe Co. Ga. In a deed 1804 Richard Dunn Of Columbia Co. gives to his son Gatewood Dunn 300 acres in Columbia Co. and in 1806 Gatewood Dunn shows on married Elizabeth (Betty) Rousseau in Columbia Co. Ga.and shows on Columbia tax list and that the other Gatewood was still in Oglethorpe.

This may be a lost generation that has been over looked. I have been searching for other clues on Richard and have several deeds from him and Waters that mentions Richards children. In a Bio of John R. Jones he tells of his Grandfather Richard and Great Grand father Waters Dunn. I am transcribing and posting a lot of the deeds and wills on the US GEN WEB.

Interesting. I have done some research on this family as I am related.
I have Gatewood Jackson Dunn married to a Margaret Rousseau however I have Gatewood J. Dunn's father as Waters Dunn.
Would like to hear your thoughts on this. My Waters is married to Sarah Gatewood.

Robert has passed away. I do have some Evans info. Mine were from Harris County, GA and later some of their descendants lived in Columbus, Muscogee Co, GA. Robert and I shared info, so that might be the Evans he was talking about. Robert was an amazing and very nice man. My Evans married a Ham, whose granddaughter married a Jeffries. I have been researching my main line EVANS for many years in Twiggs County. All my dead ends are in Twiggs. I know that they married into the Crosby and VANN families. Haven't posted here in a long time and I noticed some new people so I thought I would try again. Also some of my Evans moved into Bibb County around the 1890's and later into Jones County.
ESPECIALLY interested in the family of David and Obediah Evans on the 1850 and 1860 census. Rufus Evans was my ggrandfather. I am probably related to every EVANS in Twiggs County and Jones County.

I believe Benjamin Dearing was the son of Thomas Dearing and his wife Mary Ramsey Dearing or Deering. Thomas Dearing died in 1809 I believe in Wilkes co Ga. He had won land in the 1809 Ga land lottery or one of the land lotteries. I can't remember for sure. That land I believe was in Baldwin co Ga and that part of Baldwin co Ga divided into four counties and Jasper co Ga was where the land he won was located. Mary Dearing moved to that land. She married my ancestor George Ray in 1811 I believe. I know Mary Dearing Ray sold that land in 1818. I assume George Ray and Mary Dearing Ray lived on that land. The deed where they sold the land did not mention George Ray since he did not own any part o0f the land but it listed Mary Dearing Ray and her children. I found a deed where Samuel Ray who was the son of George Ray signed George Ray's Clarke co Ga land back over to George in 1819. Apparently George had asked Samuel Ray to sell it for him and he was no able to sell it for George so he signed the land back over to George. Samuel Ray went to Alabama in 1819 I believe. I have tried to find where George and Mary Dearing Ray went after Mary Dearing Ray sold her land. I can not find when or where George Ray died. Many researchers say he died in 1819 since the land record where Samuel Ray signed George's land back over to him in 1819 was the last record anyone can find about George. This is interesting. George and his first wife Rachel Ray and their sons Solomon,Samuel and Mark Ray lived in Wilkes co Ga in the 1790's. Apparently George did not sell that land because in 1823 I found a record where the administrators of the estate of George Ray tried to sell that property so apparently George Ray died before 1823. I still do not know whre they went after 1819. Maybe they went with samuel Ray to Alabama although I doubt that they did because woujld have been fairly old at that time.
would yoou know where Mary Dearing Ray went after she left Jasper co Ga if she did leave Jasper co Ga. They were not listed in the 1820 Jasper co Ga census so apparently the did leave Jasper co Ga. Did you already have the info that she married George Ray in 1811? Thanks,Ross

Has anyone by chance seen the name Solomon Ray while researching their ancestors? Solomon Ray died in 1813 in Jasper co Ga. His wife was named Jane Echols. Jane Echols Ray married a Tench Farrow in 1818 in Jasper co Ga. Apparently Tench Farrow took her money and left. Solomon Ray and Jane echols Ray had children Solomon Jr born in 1811 and Ransom and John and Silas and William and Nancy Ray. Solomon Ray's father was George Ray who died I believe in 1819 in Jasper co Ga. He was married to a Mary Dearing or Deering as a second marriage.
