Hello
In searching for my Ancestor, I *may* have found information on yours. Or if I want to really reach for a longshot, on a common ancestor. Possible, but doubtfull.
Anyways, The oldest ancestor I have in my tree is a "James
Ferguson" who married Elizabeth
MacDonald in 1775 in
Brooklyn,
Nova Scotia.
Someone told me that the Fergusons of
Nova Scotia did not come directly from
Scotland, that they actually came from the Eastern United States.
In searching I found a this (from a Librarian at a Library in New
Haven, Conneticut)
"Families of Ancient New
Haven lists a James
Ferguson of New
Haven removing to
New York around 1771. It states the he had a daughter Sarah who was born on 3 June 1770 and died on 24 Apr 1771."
I am wondering if there was a name change around this time. Maybe that is why I can't find anything more? I possibility, or a grasp for a straw =)
I was wondering if After arriving in
New York, this James
Ferguson moved to
Nova Scotia between 1771 and 1775.
The information I have for my James
Ferguson is from a Diary written in
Nova Scotia. Here is the entry
** 5 Jan. Thurs.: At
Herring Cove (now
Brooklyn, NS) James
Ferguson, a north of
Britain man, marr. Elizabeth, d.o. James
MacDonald."
Of course James is a very popular name. So the chances are slim at best, that these two are the same person. But you never know
