Looking for info regarding George William Sturges,husband to Margaret Loretta Burke of Westport,Conn in Fairfield County.Their children being all deceased,oldest William Legrand Sturges of westport and having moved to Pocatello,Idaho,Second oldest Mary Veronica Sturges Giza of Westport and Norwalk,Conn,youngest Edward John Sturges of Bridgeport,Conn.
Needing to confirm Georges Parents and siblings,siblings posibly being Edward,Joseph and Hazel.
Believe father of Geo. is Joseph Sturges Sr. and mother being Herminia Rashe or Rasche of Stutgart,Germany

Hi-My ancestor was Johnathon Sturges Fairchild who was born in the 1780s and married Lucy Wheeler. This was in Newtown which was "hooked" to Bridgeport/Stratford. But I don't known why in my long line of Fairchilds, he was and is always refered to with both names-must be some Fairchild or Wheeler or Hawley or Botsford connection! Zalmon Fairchild was b. before 1765 in CT.; m. Tamar Summers, d/o Nathan Summers; b. 1784 - 1794.

The CT land records show Zalmon as of Stratford on 17 Aug. 1796 when Nathan Summers of Weston, CT. gave a gift to daughter Tamer (sic) of 16A and a dwelling. On 9 Feb. 1799 Zalmon and wife of Trumbull, CT. sold 48A and buildings.

I noted your query on Johnathon Sturges Fairchild. I can't help you on him but was wondering in your long line of Fairchild's you would know anything on Zalmon Fairchild and his daughter Ruey,not Ruby, Fairchild. Ruey is my 3rd great grandmother. my blood grandfather was howard sturges(sturgis) from providence, R. I. and he was Cole Porter's lover......my wonderful and honorable father was born out of wedlock from my illustrious and , I might add, rich grandfather, who got one of his house servants (straight offf the boat from Ireland0 pregnant and turned his back on my father for all his life, My father ended up being brought up by an elderly family from No. Attleboro , Mass. whom I could never put all the pieces together except I think this wonderful elderly woman worked in the sturges mansion in Providence and and just took him in.......unfortunately her elderly husband wasn't as hospitable to the idea of taking in a ---------and treated my father terribly....but he grew up to be a wonderful young man and they gave him a combination name of his real father's name and theirs....his given name turned out to be "Howard Sturges Ireland".....and in these parts of southeastern Mass... he is still very well-known and respected.......too bad howard sturges, while you were out in the the world having fun with Cole (and this IS documented,) you had such a wonderful, handsome, and honorable son growing up that you would never know...He passed away on June 6th, 1996 and the world lost a wonderful man that day....he was written up in all the papers as a man of honor and stature, unlike his blood father.

We have William Francis Sturges we believe is the son of George W and Mary Burke born 1908 in Norwalk, Fairfield, CT.

We are having a problem with the name William Legrand. It shows as the father of William Francis, but the dates are just not adding up. (And honestly, we have located NOTHING besides a death notice mentioning his fathers name as Legrand) However, for George to be the father of William Francis they do.
