I am seeking information on James Franklin Hunter bn circa 1836 s/o Sherrod Hunter bn circa 1811/1812 s/o Dempsey Hunter bn circa 1760/1770. I have found no fact to support that James Franklin was the son of Sherrod. James F. Hunter married Elizabeth Galey 12 Jan 1854. Their daughter Emily Tennessee md Martin C R Oliver s/o Charles Henry Oliver and Mary Catherine Moffet.I am also looking for the parents and siblings of Charles Henry Oliver. The Hunters and Olivers were in Scott, Franklin, and Logan counties. Before removing to Arkansas the Hunters and Olivers were in Tennessee. If you can help me please email me. Thank you

I'm sorry I can't help you with your query, but maybe you
can help me with mine. Do you have Lillian Hunter who married Robert Bramlett in Logan County, AR before 1920? They had a son, Robert C.but Lillian died when he was born, I've always wanted to know who Lillian's parents were. Can you help?

Dee, I don't recall ever seeing the name Lillian Hunter. My connection to the Hunters of Logan co, Ar is through my grgrandmother Emily Tennessee Hunter d/o James Franklin Hunter and Elizabeth Galey. They had other children, Margaret Roan b 16 Oct 1854, Rosey Catherine b 3 Apr 1856, and Robert Lafayette b 25 Dec 1860. Lillian could be related to one of them. You might try contacting Pat Curry at the Booneville library. I believe that she has done quite a bit of research on the Hunters. I'm sorry that I couldn't be of help. Keep digging. I'm sure you will find what you are looking for.

James Franklin Hunter was my grandfather's grandfather. James WAS in fact, the son of Sherrod Hunter, who is said to be buried at the Boydston Cemetery near Branch, AR, though there is no headstone bearing that name. In the area of the cemetery where he is said to be buried, the headstones were made of poor quality stone, and there are only stumps left. James's wife, Elizabeth (Galey) Hunter is buried there, though, near her son, my father's grandfather, Robert Lafayette Hunter. Sherrod's father Dempsey is also said to be buried near there by a creek called Six Mile, though no one currently living could say where that grave lies. James is, of course, buried at Jefferson Barracks, having died while a POW at the federal prison in St Louis. An interesting side note is that Elizabeth (Galey) Hunter did not sign the 'oath of allegiance' until after her husband's death. This was a requirement at that time to be able to own property and to vote. Before James went off to war, family lore has it he and Elizabeth sent their daughters to Texas where they would be safe, but kept Robert with Elizabeth. I have seen photos of Robert with his sisters years later, but I do not have copies.
