Hi:

I have some info on descendants of Eli A. Smith, Ann Medders. Cullen Marion G. Smith and Mary Ann Stephens. The ones I have been researching are the Smith and Stephens descendants who went to East Texas. I would love to know more about Cullen's son, Henry H.
William A. Camp family of Randolph County

I am searching for anyone who may have information on William A. Camp of Randolph County and his family particularly my grandmother (mozelle/moselle Camp) and her parents (Alonza/Lonnie and Cora Camp -- I believe Cora's maiden name was Dunston or Dunson) Alonza/Lonnie and Cora are buried in Forrester's Cemetery under just a stone slab marker with their first names -- not sure whether they perished in the 1917-1918 flu epidemic as it appears that they and their other daughter may have been buried hastily as it seems several others were in that part of the cemetery. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Annie McMullen

Hi-I have an interesting story from Randolph Co. that I would love to verify. Robert Liverett was b. 1860 in AL. He supposedly d. about May 1910 on a railroad track in Randolph Co. The story says he either was murdered then placed on the tracks or he was hit by the train. Either way, I would love to know where he is buried and if there is a newspaper account. I also heard that two men were arrested. There was no evidence of murder, but they were charged with having illegal whiskey.

Sparks-Macoy Family Reunion

SPARKS-MACOY FAMILY GATHERING
AT CRAGFORD, ALABAMA

Descendants and friends of the Dennis McFranklin Sparks and Julia Ann Macoy family will meet on Saturday, September 19, 2009, at the Cragford Community Center (old Cragford School House) in Clay County, Alabama, for their ninth annual reunion. The reunion will start at 10:00 a.m. and last until everyone gets ready to go home.

Dennis and Julia were married on November 11, 1866, in Randolph County (now Clay County), ALABAMA. Dennis and Julia raised a large family. Of their sixteen children, eleven raised families of their own. This branch of the Sparks family left England in the 1600’s and settled in the State of Maryland. By the mid-1700’s, part of the family had relocated to the forks of the Yadkin River in North Carolina. Some family members migrated into Georgia in the early 1800’s. And by the mid-1800’s, the family had settled in those areas of Randolph and Talladega Counties that later became Clay County.

A covered dish lunch will be served at noon. Bring enough food for your family plus a little extra. Also bring copies of old family recipes, songs, stories, pictures and anything else that might be of interest to others and contribute to the Sparks family history. In past years, relatives from several states attended the reunion. A large turnout is anticipated this year. If you have any questions about the reunion, please contact Ed Sparks at 256-396-5950 or Carl Burdette at 770-271-1283 or burdette@mindspring.com.

Do you have any information on the William Griffin family and/or the Archibald T. Reeves/Reaves family? They lived in Randolph Co., Alabama in the 1850's to ? William Griffin was married to Lavinia Wilkins Griffin and one of their sons was Rufus Marion Griffin b. 1844 (my gg grandfather). Archibald T. Reeves was married to Mary (Polly) Richardson and one of their daughters was Maretta Jane Reeves b. 1849. Both William and Archibald owned land in Randolph Co., and I believe that they both lived there the rest of their lives. Archibald and possibly his wife, Mary, and son, Archibald, are buried in the Liberty Grove Cemetery. Also, there is a family story that Archibald, Jr. was murdered.

Any information would be of great interest to me!

Thanks.

I am doing research on the Swanson family of Roanoke, Ala. We are of African American decent with some Indian ancestry. My Grandfather's parents were from Lagrange GA, but they lived back and forth between Chambers, Randoloph, and Troup County Georgia in the late 1800's to early 1900's. The Swanson's married and had offsprings with other families in the area such as the; Boyd,Smith,Strong, Magby, Roundtree, MacKnight families. Some of my Grandparent's associates were the Broom's and the Brewer's. They attended Peace and Goodwill Church. I also had a Uncle Henry Swanson that worked on the Alanta, Birmingham & Alantic Railroad.
Please contact me if you have any information relating to these families.

Located west of Wedowee. Go north on US431 thru Wedowee, cross the Tallapoosa river - Go apprx 2 miles, turn left on CR121 - CR121 will dead-end about 1 1/2 miles at CR329. Go left for 1/2 mile - turn right on CR99 - Road will be dirt/gravel after you pass Shiloh church. About 1 mile past Shiloh, you may see cemetery on right. This is Mt Pleasant, keep going - Road will fork, go right - Another fork shortly, I think go right but not sure but both ways end 1/4 mile at river. Info from Alabama Historical Atlas "30 marked and 54 unmarked graves. Wilson Faulkner (1810-1872) an early county sheriff and coroner is buried here" I have an extra county map that I could send you. Thanks.

Jerry McGinty
Tampa, FL

"This cemetery was located on a hill above the old Island Ford Bridge. The bridge was torn down when the dam was constructed and the Bean Family cemetery is now surrounded on three sides by Lake Wedowee. After Frances Falkner's death, a rock wall, 2 1/2 feet to 3 feet high was built around the Falkner's grave. Today, most of the rock wall surrounding the graves has disappeared."

(note the name change) Needham Bedingfield was not the immigrant from England, as I believe that was several more generations back.

I have a picture of James Kramer Benefield, but not of William Henry.

I have a question regarding the Native Americans in the Randolph County area. Norman B. Moore is a distant relative on my mother's side. He purchased some land in north Randolph County in Jan 1859. We are trying to figure out if in order to purchase this land, he had to adopt a Native American orphan. He has a daughter listed in 1860 census as N R Moore (later Nancy Rebecca Moore). My family wants to know if she, Nancy, was full blooded Cherokee or Creek. Do you have any information on her or the Native Americans in Randolph County? Thanks for you help.

My gr-grandfather was Wiley W. Thrift, born 1860 in Alabama and died in 1919 in Dallas, Texas. The informant on his death certificate was C.H.Thrift born in Alabama. I am trying to find who the parents were of C.H. (Charley) Thrift. Wiley's father was William Harrison Thrift and his mother was Milla Ann Ross. They were living in the Southern Division of Randolph Co. Al on the 1860 census. On the 1870 census William is remarried to Elen ? and they are living in Township 22 in Randolph Co., AL.
C.H.Thrift moved to Arkansas and then to Lamar Co., TX. Some of his children were born in AR. Two were born in Paris, Lamar Co., TX. His children were Richard Allen DOB-1887, AR; Eula,DOB 1892, AR; Beulah DOB 1892, AR; Lee DOB 1896, AR; Maggie Jane DOB 1900, Lamar Co. TX; Barney DOB 1905, Lamar Co., TX
I feel that since C.H. was the informant on Wiley's death certificate, that he had to be a close relative. If not a brother, maybe a first cousin. I have found the records of C.H. and his descendents, but can't seem to find out who his parents were.

Linda,

I am researching the George family, originally I think, from Heard County but like other families, moved back and forth to Randolph Co.

Specifically, I am at a brick wall with Happy George. Maiden name is unknown as is date and place of birth and death. I believe she was born about 1795 and was enumerated in Heard County, Ga. in 1840 and 1850. She was listed in Randolph county beginning 1860. She was living with her son, William Jackson, in 1870 in Louina but apparently died before the 1880 census. A delinquent tax notice on some property in Randolph Co. stated that she had died before 1880.

She is supposedly married to Benjamin George who disappeared after serving in the Seminole War in 1836. He was from Heard Co., Ga.

Her known children were:
Mary Ann George b.6/14/1818
Francis Marion George b. 2/1828 CSA d. 1/1904 Louina, Randolph Co., Al.
William Jackson George b. 7/21/1836 CSA 21st Ala Inf. Co. A & C d. 7/3/1918 Randsolph Co., Al.
and possibly as many as 3 more unnamed children.

Also associated with this family are the following surnames:
Dabney
Reeves
Nichols

I have used many of your submissions on the web as resources and really appreciate the time and effort that you provide doing this service.

Thank you for any assistance you can provide.

I was comparing our info and I think I got a hit on a census for your grandfather (Barrett D. Mitchell, b. 1912) on the 1920 census in Wedowee. However, he is living with his brother and a Susan Mitchell, listed as his aunt. I have a Susan Mitchell, that lines up with all of the aunt's information, that is the daughter of Henry Frederick Mitchell, grand-daughter of Eldon Flint Mitchell. I attached it as a source on his profile.

Did I ever send you an invite to my tree? I recently connected with another Mitchell relative of this line and have been working more on the line lately. Send me your e-mail address (you can go to my profile and send me a private message rather than posting your e-mail on the bulletin board)and I can send you the invite.

Charissa
