Hi Charlotte,
You and I communicated awhile back about my line that was in Weakley Co TN, then my branch from Charles McLAIN b about 1805 or so in IL or TN went before 1850 census to Lawrence Co Arkansas. We never could find a link at the time.

I don't have any info now that definitely says there is a link, but I ..and a group of DNA matched researching cousins do have better info on the family line...and I'd like to talk to you again, as I don't recall all your line's history and can't put my fingers on it at the moment.

Re Lauderdale AL for instance, I learned that Calloway HARDIN born in GA to Mark HARDIN and Nancy CALLOWAY (Callaway, etc) was in Lauderdale AL for awhile, then 1840 and 1850 was in Weakley Co TN, prior to going to Missouri before 1860. His wife was Louisa Ann or Louisana McKINSEY / McKENZIE and 2 of their daughters married and settled in Lawrence Co Arkansas. One was Seletha Jane HARDIN who married John CHILDRESS /CHILDERS and the other was Melinda "Caroline" HARDIN who married 1861 to Squire McLAIN b 1842 Weakley Co TN to Charles McLAIN and Perlina Ann Unknown. This HARDIN line tracks back to Virginia and has ties to the line that was in Hardin Co TN, as well as some that went to Texas.

Dyer Co TN...we have DNA ties to lines there..actually on a DYER line that has McLAIN dna matches. This is the line of my cousin who is on the same line as me, but from a brother to my gg grandfather John Henry McLAIN b abt 1835 Weakley Co TN. He had a younger brother William California McLAIN b 1853 AR that was very close in age to John Henry's own son William David McLAIN b 1859 lawrence Co AR who is my great grandfather in his 2nd marriage to Clara COOPER, b 1878 Monroe Co AR. They made their home in Newport, Jackson Co, Arkansas where my grandmother Audrey McLAIN was born Jan 1900 (mar 1919 to Robert E. WASHBURN), and my mother was born there in 1920.

Maybe some of this will help you recall my genealogy.

Hope we can talk again ...more DNA matches with several DUGGERs has also been revealing ....as well as other matches with Pennsylvania and Maryland ancestry.

Audrey in TN

I saw your entry. I went to Familysearch.org which is the LDS web site. They had two pieces of information about William Holt Fowler III. They have a William Holt Fowler III as being born on 7-27-46 in San Jose, Santa Clara, California. It states that he died on 11-19-1967. The site did not give the name of his parents. The other piece of information was about his social security number. When you apply for a number, you fill out a form. One piece of information requested is the name of their parents. The site gives his SS#. I know there is a way to get this information. It might help you. I am not related to the Fowler family.

That is what I had surmised, but I could not prove it. The marriage date is correct. I believe she is my great grandmother. She married Thomas T. scott, my great grandfather, son of JRP Scott and Mary H. Tanner. does this agree with what you have. Do you have any verifying documentation. I believe you are right, but I need to convince other family members, and we need some corroborating evidence.
The information I have is that Mary Alice Jackson, b. Apr 1875/1878, was the daughter of Margaret (Butler) and Josiah (Cyrus) Jackson. Margaret was the daughter of Margaret (Herston) and John Winston Butler; Josiah was the son of James D. Jackson and his second wife whose name is unknown.

If this is the same Mary Alice, I have the marriage date as 30 Sept 1896, in Lauderdale Co, AL.

I am seeking more information on Rebecca Ritter, it is stated that she was born in January 1832 although I also have 1835. She is a daughter of John H or N Ritter and Elizabeth Stutts. Found her in the 1850 and 1900 census of Lauderdale co., Ala and from what I can determine she never married as she was listed as being 68years old and single in the 1900 census. She died 9 October 1916 in Lauderdale co., Ala. Rebecca is said to have had the following siblings: Nancy, born either 1825 or 1830 - she married John Wright; Catherine, born 1827 - married Chaney Liles; Deborah, born 1828; John, have him listed as being born in 1832; Martha Jane, born 1837. Does anyone know if there were other children or whom they married?

Nancy THOMPSON in Lauderdale County in 1827 (this is my earliest record of him).

In the 1830 census of Lauderdale, the following are found:
pg. 192: Jesse MATTHEWS (age 50-59 - b. 1771-1780) -not found after 1930
pg. 215: John (D.) MATHIS (age 30-39) - later info gives birth ca. 1797, NC
pg. 216: Hardy MATHEWS (age 30-39) - later info gives birth ca. 1800, NC

My question is: "How likely is it that these 3 are related?" Any and all input is welcome!

P.S.: There is also a James E(vans) MATTHEWS (age 30-39) found on pg. 188, but I'm almost certain he's not related to John D. or Hardy.

The information I have about Tobias Rice (1812-18820) cannot be etched in stone. Needs further search. But on one of his Census years he is said to have been born in TN.
I have his father as Samuel Parker Rice, b1787 in Ga. His wife is Rebecca Johnson, b 1790.
Samuel Parker Rice was married to Rebecca Johnson, b,1790.
Tobias's wife was Louise Lucretia Gilbert (1815-1885), SC They were married 25 Sept 1830 in Florence, Lauderdale Co, Al.
That is the info I have. I would appreciate any input/help available

yes, i have daniel and Celia's wed. cert. I would love to see the pic you have of Celia. Who was the other pic you have? It was not completed , you said" I have a pic that we think is"?? No old markers are left at the old cemetery, but family menbers have bought and placed new headstones for them as well as a baby son named John Wade Johnson . The old cemetery is now located on private property. One must have permission but the owners are pretty good about letting family go there. I will call and get specific directions for you. My gr. grandfather, Thomas W. Johnson was the last person buried there in 1918. His son, Clarence Daniel Johnson lived most of his adult life at Central State Hospital. He died there. I may have said clarence Daniel belonged to Daniel but he does not. Thomas W. was the only living son.

I do have a copy of Celia and Daniel's marriage license, it does just say Daniel, thanks for letting me know the Clarence Daniel info. Is there a marker for Daniel? Do you know where this cemetery is actully located? I it was a fellow researcher that passed it on to me, unfortunately, I was not making notes of informants, way back then.

What do you know of the son Clarence Daniel? I did not see him on a850 census on with the family.

I have been given a picture that is suppose to be Celia Adeline Cole Johnson. I have pics of Celia, Lou, and maybe a couple more. I also have a pic that some think is

I do not know where Mary Alice is buried. Welcome is buried at North Carolina Church Cemetery in Lauderdale County, AL next to his 2nd wife Mary Adeline Lanier Clemons.

most of your info is the same as mine , however, Daniel died in 1857 and is buried in a private Johnson cemetery in Lawrenceburg, Tn. Other family members who have spoken to older members in the Johnson family actually don't know anything about Daniel, not even his parents names. We know there is info on some sites but no one really has any proof. On the earliest papers we have dated abt 1847, the only name listed is Daniel Johnson. He and Celia have a son named Clarence Daniel Johnson. In Thomas Wikerson's bible (Daniel's son) he lists only Celia , when she was born and died. No mention of Daniel at all. Where is Mary Alice Johnson Mcgee buried? Do you have a pic of Mary Alice? I have pics of all of Daniel's children except for Mary Alice.

good to hear from you. We are trying to decide if Celia Adeline Cole and Daniel Johnson are the parents of Celia Wallace's mother. Her name would be Mary Alice Johnson, born abt 1829. Daniel was supposedly from Sweden. A paper that I have says Alice married John Mcgee and moved to Alabama. The children listed are Lou and Celia. We know little to nothing about Daniel and wife Celia. He died abt 1857 and she died 1892. I have a picture of Celia. We are looking for any info on Daniel as we have none. Do you have any info on Mary Alice Johnson? Thanks

I am related to Tobias Rice and Louisa Rice through their son William S. Rice. I have his date of birth as approximately 1832. He married Margaret West. Her date of birth would be approximately 1838. Their children were Mary Ann Eliza Rice and Young Clay Rice, birth years 1857 and 1859, respectively. In the 1870 census, Mary Ann Eliza is listed as 12, Young C. as 10, and Houston M. as 9. I wondered if Houston M. might be William and Margaret's child. Also, your West family lived in or near what is now known as the Toonerville/Whitehead area according to the 1850 census. This was the also the Rice family's area. Since your Margaret West, per the 1850 census, was about the age of the Margaret West that married William S. Rice, I wondered if these Margarets are the same. Do you have any information concerning Margaret West? In our Grisham family tree, we have an Ally Whitehead listed. Also, there was a George Whitehead (I think) who married Eliza West.

I am related to Tobias Rice and Louisa Lucretia Gilbert through their daughter Mary Jane Rice 1836-1909, She was married to W H West in Alabama, had two sons then went on to Texas. Mr. West was killed during the war I think. Mary Jane then married Zeb Anderson Spruiell in Alto, Cherokee, Tx.
Tobias had 13 children. Your Lilly B must have been Elizabeth B Rice (b.1834)
The birthdate I have for Houston is 1832.
Somewhere in my notes of many years ago I have the name Alabama Whitehead. Do you have her in the family line that I need to know about? I am still searching.

Re: James Hammonds (1784-c.1850)

My name is James Hammonds. My father, Morrell J. Hammonds, was born north of Montgomery, Alabama, near Tallassee, in a now-non-existent town of Reeltown. I tried doing genealogy work a few decades ago. I followed one thread to a Jephthah McClendon (spelling of Jephthah may be incorrect - I haven't really looked through the records in a couple decades) in the mid-1850's. Most threads were untraceable, at least to my inexperience, dead-ended because of some burned courthouses. The "Hammonds" line was tracing a few miles east each generation going back during early 1900s and late 1800s (Notasulga, Opelika). I have a fair amount of material (birth/death/marriage records), but don't have immediate access to them. I recently moved and a lot of things are still in packing boxes. I've run across some variations of the name (Hammons, Hammond) in some lines. Most of the relatives I've met (1960s, 1970s) were in Tallassee & Montgomery. Several of my uncles served in US armed forces. My grandfather (Cyrus Monroe Hammonds) was a Montgomery police officer. He died in the early 1960s. An Uncle (Ralph) was a Montgomery police officer and Police Chief in Brantley, Alabama. There were two predecessors, James Jenkins Hammonds and Emma Elizabeth Hammonds, who were cousins (I don't know how far separated) who married, I believe in the 1920s or late 19-teens. If any of this crosses paths with anyone, let me know and I'll try to locate my records. jameshammons09@comcast.net (My name is Hammonds - the cable company shortened it when assigning the e-mail address.)

Looking for information on when W. H. Woodley had a photo studio at 1109 East Limestone Street in Florence, Alabama.
I'm Hoping someone will be able to help. I have an unidentified picture with this stamped on the back. Knowing what years the studio was there will help me, hopefully to identify the people in the photo.

I believe they may be the children of George and Maggie Cox.
Maggie was married before her marriage to George to a ? Pounders. They may be her children from that marriage.

Any help appreciated.

My email address is bevearline@aol.com

William Blackburn & Mary Caseinger were the parents of Eliza Jane Blackburn,my GGGrand mother, the wife of Aaron Terrell Fields. Could this possibly be the William & Mary you are referring to or is there another connection? I don't have any dates on William & Mary Blackburn but Eliza Jane is buried in Harmony Cemetery in Taylor, Ar.

Curtis
