The date on Pension form is 5/3/1895, filed Apr 8, 1895.You have all correct census records.Pertaining to W.M.Grider, says W.M.Grider,age 38 residing at Sunset, and Jake Grider age 19, residing at Sunset. Then goes on to say W.M.Grider is a son in law of Louize McCoy, from the yr. of 1865.Jake Grider, Louize McCoy is my Grandmother & I have known her every since. Signed W.M.Grider & Jake Grider.
I am searching for information regarding my G-Grandfather, Simeon L.OWENS. He was born circa 1876 in Jackson County, AL and married Paulina (Pliny) PINKSTON in December 1890. His parents were Thomas OWENS and Ellizabeth Jane BURROWS. They had 3 sons, Herman, Grady, and James Curtis (my grandfather). He seems to have disappeared and left no trace. If anyone has info on Sim, please e-mail me at d.stogner-nash@prodigy.net.

Thank you for any information you can share.

What would happen to two young girls age 7 and 9 if their parents had died in Jackson county in the year 1902? Would they have gone to an orphanage? Are their any orphanage records for Jackson County during that time? I am specifically looking for information on Olivia Kay (age 9) and Lillie Kay (age 7) , orphaned in 1902. They had three brothers, Hiram (age 11) Virgil (age 12) and Mabron (age 16). Mabron would be old enough to live on his own, but what about the others? All the boys show up in the 1910 Census records, but of course, the girls are nowhere to be found. I am also interested in any Kay burial listings for Jackson County. Please contact me if you can help.
Russel Hester
revrehester@yahoo.com

My husbands' GGGrandparents were Andrew J. McCoy(b.abt 1815) and Louise Rice. He fought in Indian War 1837/38. Louise applied for pension, after he died, but was turned down. It was stated he was 5'10",black hair & eyes, dark complexion. He went by nicknames of Kitchens McCoy, & Andy Kitchens. The pension form was witnessed by son in law,W.M.
Grider, married into family in 1865, 35 yrs of age.Grandson
age 19, Jake Grider(Jacob?) Louise & A.J. had only son James F.& dau. Nancy McCoy. I can find no marriage of these two, nor a census record of them living in a household.

Would any Grider researcher know of W.M. Grider & Nancy
McCoy m. in 1865? Our McCoys also married into the Arnold
family.

Any info appreciated.

Hi. I'm hoping to make contact with someone interested in the Roderick B. (Odie/Ottie) McCoy family. I have detailed and documented information about R. B.'s siblings and ancestors and look forward sharing and exchanging info.

R. B. married twice. He and 2nd wife Mary J. (Thomas) McCoy are in Jackson Co, by 1878 and appear on the 1880 census. His children who seem to remain in the area include:
1) James H. McCoy, who married Sarah A. Bryant and had children John Luther (married Fay S.), Frazier Anderson (married Mamie Baker), Claude G., and Vera Berith (married John A. Snodgrass) McCoy
2) Jesse Franklin (Frank) McCoy, who married 1st Fannie J. York (d. young) and 2nd Mary Etta Webb. Frank and Mary Etta had children Charlie (married Ina C. Clator), Ola Mae (married J. H. Wininger), Claude Sr. (married Flora Jewel Norris), Ethel L., Fred M., Willie Mae (married Jeffie Matthews?), Jesse Franklin, Jr., Lawrence N. (married 1st Mary Kirby, 2nd Janie York), and Ernest P. (married Ruby Roberts) McCoy.
3) Lucy McCoy who married J. L. Winter.

I have a court record that indicates other descendant siblings of R. B. (Odie/Ottie) McCoy were with this family until at least 1890, but can find little or nothing about them after that date. He apparently died about 1886, and is definitely deceased by the date of the 1890 court record.

Another of R. B.'s daughters, Betty McCoy, married J. M. Jolly. This family left Jackson Co., AL, and was in Cobert Co., AL by 1910.

After his death, R. B.'s 2nd wife, Mary J. (Thomas) McCoy married David Hayes 3 May, 1896 in Jackson Co., AL. She and her Hayes children, Mary Ella and Charles, are in Hunstville, Madison Co., AL by the 1900 and 1910 census records, though she is again widowed by the 1900 record.

Greg Keeling

Marriages at ancestry.com they are also at this website: usgenweb archives project jackson county alabama vital records, just google that and they should come up.

Benjamin W. Smith is the only Smith who patented land around Coon Creek. The only other land patents for Jones within Township 3 Range 8 were John W.
Here is my problem. My mother is absolutely adamant that the name Willis Mason Jones is correct and she has written information from her mother and grandmother to support that. When I raised the possibility of Benjamin Willis Jones as the right name, she about had a fit. There are other connections to the family of Benjamin Willis Jones, so I think that is probably the right one. What a mess!

They lived in Jackson County a number of years and though they have gone back and forth a bit between Jackson and DeKalb, I've not found them in the DeKalb marriages so thought I'd try Jackson.

If you can help, that would be great even if it proves where they weren't.

Thanks.

Is anyone researching the Satterfields of Jackson Co., AL in the 1800s? If so, please reply so we can talk. I think my line is from TN (maybe Franklin Co.?--which is next to Jackson) and from Jackson Co. Some may have moved into DeKalb Co, AL as well about the same time.

I had one Satterfield that md a Baxter and another Satterfield that md a Burt about 1828-1829, one I know md in Jackson Co in 1829. The other one may have md in Walker Co, GA so I'm looking for information on that as well.

If you can help, please reply and let's talk some (email, etc.). Thanks in advance, Lana

I believe John Hutton was Sarah M. Hutton Kennedy's father, still trying to find out who her mother was. We think it might be a King. Looks like she was the oldest with 2 brothers, Jesse and Wiley in Jackson CO. Ala. in 1870 but John had remarried to Emaline Toney in 1867 and she had children and then JOhn and Emaline had more children. Elias James D. Kennedy married Susan Hutton, I belive this was Mary S.Hutton which was Sarah M., sister or half sister. I will keep trying to find out what happened to Sarah.
Several of John & Emaline children came to Texas, and so did Emaline after John death I suppose. Hollis was probably visiting the Hutton bunch as well.
Thanks for you info.
Mauridell

Hi, I don't know what happened to Sarah Hutton Kennedy or whether she remarried or what. My Grandfather Hollis Kennedy was born in Little Rock Arkansas and as far as I can tell he was Napoleon and Sarah's only child. I would really love to know what happened to Sarah. My grandfather loved to travel around and often visited family in Texas. I have a letter that he wrote my Aunt Myrtle Kennedy after visiting his Uncle in Texas. He moved to California and that is where he lived until his death. I only met him one time as a child in Califonnia.
Karolyn

Most of her brothers and sisters came to Texas along with their Mother, Emeline Hutton, after John Hutton died. Could she have died in child birth of another child?
