My husbands' GGGrandparents were Andrew J. McCoy(b.abt 1815) and Louise Rice. He fought in Indian War 1837/38. Louise applied for pension, after he died, but was turned down. It was stated he was 5'10",black hair & eyes, dark complexion.He went by nicknames of Kitchens McCoy, & Andy Kitchens.The pension form was witnessed by son in law,W.M.
Grider, married into family in 1865, 35 yrs of age.Grandson
age 19, Jake Grider(Jacob?) Louise & A.J. had only son James F.& dau. Nancy McCoy. I can find no marriage of these two, nor a census record of them living in a household.

Would any Grider researcher know of W.M. Grider & Nancy
McCoy m. in 1865? Our McCoys also married into the Arnold
family.

Any info appreciated.

What is the date on the pension application? Are you sure of the marriage date of 1865 is correct? Nancy is listed with her parents on the 1870 and a Margaret M. age 7 is listed with them is this Nancy's daugher? or Andrew and Louisa's?

The only W. M. Grider in Jackson CO. I have found is William M. Grider who is listed on the 1880 census as Sheriff of Jackson CO. age 42 but with no children. He is listed on the 1870 with mother Ann Grider 71 b. NC again with no children. He is also with his mother on the 1860 and 1850.

There are both McCoy,Grider and Arnold researchers at the Jackson CO. Yahoo Genealogy Group who may be able to help you.

Nelda, do you know Andrew J McCoy's parents. My line is from Andrew J McCoy born1804-Tennessee md Nancy Suiter 1822-23 in Jackson Co and had 13 children. #10 was a Andrew Jackson McCoy-1840-1899, md Sarah M West.I also have Issac Grider md Dora Arnold child of John/Martha Hendrix Arnold.Martha md John F McCoy. I can certainly see the benifits of TV these days. They had nothing else to do in the early days everyone was related to everyone else!!!! My directline is Andrew J/Nancy Suiter McCoy. I, little by little am adding the very side lines.

The date on Pension form is 5/3/1895, filed Apr 8, 1895.You have all correct census records.Pertaining to W.M.Grider, says W.M.Grider,age 38 residing at Sunset,and Jake Grider age 19, residing at Sunset.Then goes on to say W.M.Grider is a son in law of Louize McCoy, from the yr. of 1865.Jake Grider, Louize McCoy is my Grandmother & I have known her every since. Signed W.M.Grider & Jake Grider. If W.M. was son in law, he would have had to marry Nancy McCoy,I believe Margaret was dau. of Nancy.
