I am trying to find anyone who might have information about Leroy, Martin T/J and or Ashley Batson listed in 1850 Dale County, Al census with mother Mary Batson. If there is any information as to what happen to them, it would be appreciated.

I only know their mother was Mary Simmons Batson. Her daughter Anna Simmons was my GGGGrandmother. Try looking in Geneva County, Alabama. It was once part of Dale County. You're a Simmons aren't you? I believe we've been in touch before. John C. Bass,Sr.

yes, John we have been in touch several times before. I suppose it is possible they joined the military and disappeared that way. But all three?? and their mother. odd if you ask me. I cannot find them listed in any civil war records. Also, James Simmons used their first names in naming his boys. Mary could have remarried I suppose, or she got sick & died.

I guess you are referring to James, the son of Mary? James was supposed to have ended up in Andalushia (spelling) Alabama. Simmons Street there was named after our Simmons family. Have you looked in that area? John

I thought James & family went to Escambia, at least that's what I have in my tree file. hmmmmm, might need to revisit that one too..

There was a story that my Henry Simmons was found @ River Falls, near Andalusia, then taken to live with this Batson/Simmons family. He then went to live with the Wards in Dale County before going to Florida after the civil war. I have never found any proof outside of this story.
