Following these early Quakers is both difficult and confusing since the same first names are used repeatedly in succeeding generations. Further complicating matters, siblings of one family often married siblings of another Quaker family from the same meeting house. I, too, am trying to untangle this branch of the Mills family and have come up with the following possibility: Robert MILLS Sr. b. abt 1701 in Ireland, m. Mary CARLETON in 1725. Their children were Sarah, William (m. Susanna WILKESON 4 Jan 1762), Phebe, Susanna (m. 23 Nov 1763 Thomas JENNINGS in York Co, PA - it was a second marriage for Thomas; his first marriage was to Anna BORTON on 30 Aug 1731 and their daughter Anna later (13 Apr 1776) married John MILLS, son of Robert MILLS Jr.), Anna, Robert MILLS Jr., John, Thomas, and James. The first witness (usually the father) at Susanna MILLS' and Thomas JENNINGS' marriage was Robert MILLS. The second witness was Robert MILLS Jr. (probably her brother) and the third witness was James MILLS (another brother.) The lack of Mary MILLS (nee CARLETON) suggests that Susanna's mother had already died by 1763. Robert MILLS Jr., birth date unknown but presumably after 1725, married Susanna STEDHAM (b. 14 Apr 1729 in York Co, PA). Robert Jr's will (written 4 Jun 1777, proved 29 Jan 1779) names James MILLS (presumably his brother)and John MILLS (his brother or son) as executors. It names his children as: Mary, Susanna, Elizabeth, and John. John MILLS, b. abt 1752 in Warrington, York, PA, married Anna JENNINGS 13 Apr 1776 and their children were Thomas (b. 27 Aug 1778, married Lydia PACKER 7 Sep 1801, d. 9 Jan 1829), Rachel (b. 20 Sept 1783, married William WICKERSHAM 17 Apr 1805, d. 23 May 1867),Robert (will written 16 Sept 1808, proved 12 Jan 1809 names as one of his legatees his mother Ann who had married James WICKERSHAM Jr, father of Robert's sister's husband William ), Mary (married John WALL), and Esther.
