| My grandmother,Mary Frances (Hodgins) Rose was born in Ballincolig,Sept 18,1887,County Cork,Ireland. She was the daugher of James and Mary (Lane) Hodgins and had four sisters and two brothers.I am looking for information on this family.Mary Lane Hodgins died in Taunton,England 19 Feb.1936. My grandmother came to America where there was family and was a ward of Charles Searles prior to her marriage to Daniel O.Rose in 1906 in New York City.I have not found any American relatives, cannot find James Hodgins birth or death in Ireland.Married children of James Mary were Eliza Jane Dodd,Agnes Osmond,Rebecca Desmond,Margaret Honey.Brother Dennis had a daugher Molly Mines. These sisters lived in England..Kent,Gosport,Kingston,Taunton.I would like to know what you have discovered. The above information came from my mother's address book identifying her English cousins.I have found one of Nana's brothers family in Ireland but they do not know anything about the family. We have found James listed in the 1901 census but have been unsuccessful in finding a copy of the 1911 census.John Hodgins was on the hurling team in Cork in the early 1900's.I suspect James Hodgins was a cooper in the powder mills of Ballincolig.I believe his wife,Mary had a bakery in Ballincolig.James was listed as a cooper on Mary's death certificate, she was a widow at the time of death but supposedly had spent considerable time in Wales prior to moving to Taunton near her daughter Eliza Jane.My Nana and husband moved back to Maine in the 1920's near Greene Maine where his family lived.I live in York, Maine now and would like to have you contact me at vspiller@aol.com with whatever information you have.I have found Hodgins in the Griffith's List and Lane's and James and Mary's marriage certificate. I suspect the Lane's are the same branch that came to America in the 1600-two brothers came here and one brother went to Ireland from England. I know that there were cousins on Long Island because in my Grandmother's chest there were photographs signed cousin with the Long Island photographer. My grandmother was known as "Molly" to her family and had a lovely singing voice, was an accomplished seamstress and tailoress. She had three children..all of whom are deceased. | |
