| Heather: WOW! I guess I really touched a nerve and that wasn't my intent. I'm very sorry that my comment was taken as a put-down of your ancestor's adopted family status. I agree with your feelings 100 %. My late wife was adopted and I have had first hand observation of what you are talking about. While she knew her biological mother and had a relationship with her, her real mother was her adoptive mother who married her father after he and his first wife divorced. In addition to your "Aunt Lizzie", I read your message to also mean you had run into a block on finding the parents of Harrison Beeman and his ancestors. I was trying to be helpful because I've been helped along the way many times in my genealogy research over the past 30-35 years. My comment about "true ancestrial lineage" had to do with an accepted genealogy practice, or standard, that can be relied upon by others who are doing their own research. It is required for membership in pedigreed societies and would also be important in DNA studies now being done by genealogists. I agree this seems harsh against the standard of who one's family really is. I wouldn't want "my helpfulness" to be the cause of a new Hatfield-McCoy feud! (I have a Hatfield line among my ancestry.) Please accept my apology. Donovan Pendell |
