David, My father once told me that the name Arias came from the hebrew word "Ari" which means Lion. I have not been able to confirm that. He also told me that the Family was Jewish until the 1490's when they were forced to convert. But all this is anecdotal, I have not been able to confirm anything. I know his grand father and his brothers came to Costa Rica from Asturias in the late 1800's. That is the only part I have been able to confirm. Rgds, Ricardo Arias
